UK: Hundreds charged with online ‘speech crimes’ under Online Safety Act, including for spreading ‘fake news’

“The Online Safety Act, which was passed into law under Rishi Sunak’s Conservative government.” Sunak was a globalist, a conservative in name only. Now that the far-left Labour Party (which is even worse than the Conservatives) is ruling Britain, fascism is taking over. Anyone opposed to the government will be in danger of persecution if that government deems what they say to be a “speech crime.”

The Southport riots included the arrest of an 11-year-old child, and the UK government was subsequently accused of covering up the jihad terror ties of Southport suspect. The British public was left completely in the dark about what was driving the riots, as police dragged citizens out of their homes and arrested them. Media reports included incessant references to the “far right,” with little substance.

Jihad Watch covered the background of the UK riots HERE. The protests included social media posts of violent Muslim gangs calling themselves the Muslim Defense League terrorizing the streets. Yet the state media neglected to give any of that coverage.

Britain is under siege with a fascist government that seeks to exert total control over its population, turning its detractors into dissidents. The writing has been on the wall for a long time, yet the British electorate still voted in Keir Starmer and his far-left Labour Party, the party that covered up Muslim rape gangs; promotes the “Islamophobia” subterfuge; supports open-door migration policies, despite lying about this to gain votes; has no concern for national security; and is now cracking down on basic freedoms.

Hundreds of people have been charged with online “speech crimes” amid claims from the Trump administration that civil liberties are under threat in Britain.

Almost 300 people have been charged with spreading illegal “fake news” or sending “threatening communications” since the Online Safety Act came into force in 2023. Dozens have received convictions under the act.

Multiple people were charged under the law following last summer’s rioting in the wake of the Southport stabbings. The riots also led to what are believed to have been among the first convictions under the new rules.

Data from the Crown Prosecution Service, disclosed to The Telegraph under a Freedom of Information request, shows that 292 people have been charged with communications offences since the law came into effect in October 2023.

…So far, 67 people have been convicted under the new rules.

The Online Safety Act, which was passed into law under Rishi Sunak’s Conservative government, requires technology giants to tackle dangerous online posts and videos or risk billions of pounds in fines….

    • In the post above the Telegraph piece, the writer, Ms. Williams, writes that the British people “still voted in” this starmer (reminds me of the nazi stormers). however, she also writes, starmer and his gang were “lying about this to gain votes;”

      When politicians can pull the lying wool over the eyes of many, and the rest are mozlums voting for someone they recognize will do their bidding, one gets the government they didn’t deserve, nor ask to have.

  6. I have much sympathy for the UK people but the fact is because of the government they have the UK is no longer our Ally. The UK government is in violation of our community standards in the USA. They can start the countdown and regain access to the alliance when they delete the fascism that violates our rules.       • That is true but JD could have just as easily added we the USA in to that speech on internal threats to democracy. Threats such as censorship, election cancellations, and government overreach pose a greater danger than external adversaries like Russia or China. Now that we know that USAID and dozens of other agencies have been looting the US Treasury while meddling in other Western countries affairs we can acknowledge that we in the West are all in this together regarding the enemies within.

        I was a young man when Reagan labeled the Soviet Union an evil empire. Not too many years later the USSR crumbled and ceased to exist. And now we are finding out that the enemy within has taken the place of that former evil empire. Even though democrats will squeal like stuck pigs it is not Boris and Natasha that are at the forefront it is democrats and their leftist Internationale cronies that are our greatest adversaries today. You can purchase quality toilet paper which does a good clean job or you can purchase toilet paper of inferior quality which does something completely different. The speeches he gave this week at Paris and Munich came more from him than from Trump, whose policy generally is a hands-off approach as far as foreign countries go: he deals w/ the governments that are there, rather than the ones we want there to be

    • This article is an exaggeration. The online safety act is in place to protect children and other vulnerable groups from harmful content and from committing suicide as has happened on multiple occasions. It simply isn;t a law to curtail online speech about Islam. It goes after tech companies who feed vulnerable groups such as children harmful content through their algorithms.

      Britain doesn’t care about being in violation of America’s ‘community standards’ as you assert in your comment. Why would it ?

  8. The British people didn’t vote them in. They only got about 30% of the vote. Starmer gained a huge majority of seats in parliament because the right wing vote was split… Unfortunately they are going to do a lot of damage to the UK before we can get them out.

    JD Vance asked at Munich about what exactly are we defending. In fact, Western Europe seems even more totalitarian than Russia. Yeah, Russia has horrible foreign policies like supporting Iran, as well as their treatment of the Russian qur’an burner, but at least, they have their muslim populations largely sandboxed, and don’t impose muslim thugs on their people. If the US has to be allied w/ somebody in Europe, Russia is a better choice than the likes of Britain, Germany and Sweden, all of whom seem lost forever
