The Kurds hope one day to establish an independent Kurdistan on land currently under the control of Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria. Iran and Turkey have been hostile, deeming them to be “terrorists” and aiming to crush them.
According to Time Magazine, the Kurds are “the largest ethnic group in the world without their own state,” and have been “struggling for autonomy for more than a century.”
The meeting of Iran and Turkey is troubling news. Both countries seek, not just regional, but global dominance. They are governed by aggressive, expansionary leaders that need to be contained; now they are partnering and colluding. The meeting between Turkey’s spy chief Ibrahim Kalin, Iran’s Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib, and Iran’s security chief Ali Akbar Ahmadian, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, spells even more trouble for the Kurds.
The meeting also addressed the Palestinian issue in Gaza, since both countries have denounced Trump’s Gaza plan, and are trying to rally Muslim countries against it.

Turkey’s spy chief Ibrahim Kalin has held talks in Tehran with his Iranian counterpart to discuss the fight against “terror” groups and the situation in Syria, state news agency Anadolu reported.
Kalin met with Iran’s Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib as well as security chief Ali Akbar Ahmadian, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Anadolu reported late Saturday.

They discussed “the fight against terror organizations, especially the PKK and Daesh, common threats, the situation in Syria, the Gaza ceasefire and developments in the Palestinian issue,” it said, referring to the banned Kurdish militant group and using an Arabic acronym for the ISIS group.
The two countries were on opposite sides of Syria’s long-running civil war, with Turkey historically backing opponents of recently deposed strongman Bashar al-Assad, while Iran supported his rule.
Al-Assad was deposed on December 8 and the leaders of Turkey and Iran held their first meeting in Cairo later that month….
