The Lucrative Joyride at MSNBC is Over for Joy Reid

Reid is not the only controversial anchor to have been booted from the network. Ayman Mohyeldin’s weekend show has also been canceled, The Guardian reported.

In January, Mohyeldin accused the Biden administration of a “double standard” for refusing to label Israel’s war against Hamas a genocide while condemning the conflict in Sudan as such.

“The US’s head-in-the-sand attitude toward Israel is not only inconsistent with its treatment of other countries, but it’s also a clear act of moral cowardice,” he wrote….

Mohyeldin thinks the Biden administration should have condemned Israel for “genocide.” But why? According to Hamas, 47,000 people have been killed in Gaza. According to the IDF, it has so far managed to kill 20,000 Hamas operatives. The number of Gazans who have been dying in the Strip from diseases and accidents has in recent decades averaged 800 a month. That means, during the 16 months of the war in Gaza, 10,800 people in the Strip  died from non-combat-related causes. Now do the math: 47,000 minus 20,000 equals 27,000, 27,000 minus 10,800 equals 16,200. Out of a total Gazan population of 2.3 million, there have only been 16,200 civilian deaths. Does that sound like genocide to you? And if Israel has always been “genocidal,” how did it happen that in 1967, when Israel took control of the Gaza Strip, there were 400,000 in that territory, and when Israel pulled out completely in 2005, that number had more than tripled, to 1.1 million? Is that “genocide”?

In Israel within the armistice lines, there were 160,000 Arabs in 1949. Now there are more than two million. ”Genocide”? And when Israel took back Judea and Samaria from Jordan in the Six-Day War, there were 900,000 Arabs living there,, and now there are three million. Again, we must ask Ayman Mohyeldin, where is your evidence that Israel has ever been guilty of “genocide”?

Mohyeldin also described the arch-murderer Yahya Sinwar as a brave warrior who engaged in “direct confrontation with Israel.” Not at all. He was the mastermind of the October 7, 2023 attacks, but he spent the war almost entirely underground, hiding from the Israelis, sometimes using hostages as his human shields as he scurried, rat-like, through the network of tunnels. He was a coward.

Among those mourning the firing of Joy Reid was another lunatic defender of Hamas, Medhi Hasan, whose weekend show was cancelled by MSNBC last November — because of his obsessive criticism of Israel — leading him to quit MSNBC altogether in a fit of pique, and instead, to go to work for the most anti-Israel of all British newspapers, The Guardian. He’ll be able to bash Israel to his heart’s content in that publication, spewing his malice alongside Owen Jones.

Mehdi Hasan, another Israel critic who previously worked on the network, described both reporters as friends – and claimed Reid had tackled issues like “Gaza” which went unreported on by their colleagues.

Gaza has received more attention from the American and world media than all other current conflicts in the world put together. Reid did not “tackle issues like Gaza that went unreported” — she dished out the usual anti-Israel conspiracy theories, the same fake stories about Israeli atrocities that one could, and can, find everywhere on social media. And when she was caught out, as in her claim that 9/11 had been an Israeli false-flag operation, she first lied, then fessed up, and then apologized, but no sensible person should have taken her so-called “apology” as heartfelt. Reid engaged in nonstop criticism, easily refuted — of the Jewish state as it went to war against Hamas. She never mentioned the tremendous effort that the IDF makes to warn civilians away from sites about to be targeted. She never gave her audience the details of what happened on October 7, 2023, when 6,000 members of Hamas smashed into Israel, where they proceeded to rape, torture, mutilate (slicing off breasts, cutting off genitalia, gouging out eyes, while their victims were still alive), and murder 1,200 Israelis.

Hasan wrote:

“Joy Reid is a friend and a former colleague. I’m sad that she lost her show but excited to see what she does next. It’s a big loss for MSNBC viewers as she did talk about issues – racism, fascism, Gaza – that other hosts have avoided,” he posted on X/Twitter. “And I’m also sad to see my brilliant friend Ayman lose his unique show, too. But it seems he’ll be staying at the network to build a new one.”

“Racism”? Not once has Joy Reid reported on the greatest humanitarian crisis in the world today, in Sudan, where the Arab militias known as the Rapid Support Forces have for the past several years been making war on black Africans in west Darfur, leaving hundreds of thousands dead. In Sudan, the Arabs have deprived the black Africans of food, blocking aid trucks. More than twenty million are on the brink of starvation. Yet not a word about this from Joy Reid, who has given plenty of airtime to her soi-disant “reporting” on what turned out to be a nonexistent famine in Gaza.

The lucrative joyride at MSNBC is over for Joy Reid. She’s had a good run, issued much nonsense, spread many lies, poisoned a great many minds.
