Senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk, said “in an interview with The New York Times on Monday that if he had known the destruction that would be brought on to Gaza because of the October 7 attacks, he would have never agreed to it.” Like all statements of Hamas operatives, this should not necessarily taken as truth. Had Hamas been victorious over Israel, Mousa Abu Marzouk would not be expressing any regrets, despite the suffering of those living in Gaza. Their suffering is viewed as heroic for the so-called “resistance,” and “martyrdom” is considered to be the ultimate achievement. Hamas also uses Gazans as human shields.
What Abu Marzouk likely means is that if Hamas had known what the devastating outcome of its actions on October 7 would be, the group would have strategized differently; but he is trying to give the West the impression that he regrets the destruction in Gaza, so as to cast the blame once again upon Israel, as well as, possibly, to win back confidence of the people of Gaza.
He also said that it would be “unacceptable” to say that Hamas had won, “especially considering the scale of what Israel inflicted on Gaza.”
Yet Hamas does not really care about Gazans. What happened in Gaza is entirely Hamas’ fault. Abu Marzouk is skillfully playing Western useful idiots. Note that he was talking to the New York Times. And Netanyahu’s party did not “lose control of itself” and take “revenge over everything.” In reality, Israel coordinated a brilliant, carefully planned war on Hamas, which was a big surprise to Hamas, and Israel was far more successful than Hamas and many others had anticipated.
Hamas was counting on Israel to back off because it knows Israel’s respect for life. The group made the calculation that since Hamas hid its weapons in schools, hospitals and among the Palestinian population in Gaza, that Israel would relent. Hamas also likely expected Israel to cave to global pressure, but Hamas was wrong. Instead, the group forced Israel into a corner; Israel was left with no choice but to dismantle Hamas, given the scale of October 7.
Abu Marzouk then stated that “Hamas leadership is willing to negotiate about the group’s future weapons in Gaza. ‘We are ready to speak about every issue,’ he said. ‘Any issue that is put on the table, we need to speak about it.’”
One lesson one hopes that Israel has fully learned is never to trust Hamas under any circumstances. Hamas is not capable of any type of negotiations in which trust is a factor. If negotiations with Hamas involve clear and immediate outcomes or outcomes that could be controlled by Israel, then it might be possible to negotiate. Hamas is driven by jihadist zeal and is supported by the Iranian regime, which appears to view the annihilation of Israel as a necessary step to usher in the return of the Hidden Imam (or Mahdi), as part of the Twelver doomsday theology that Iran ascribes to.
Hamas has also been deceptive in saying that its “fighters only targeted Israeli soldiers and people carrying weapons” on October 7. Hamas intentionally targeted the Nova Music Festival and neighboring kibbutzim.
75% of Palestinians support October 7, and that same percentage supports the obliteration of the Jewish state. Israel cannot afford to let its guard down.
Hamas (which is an acronym for Ḥarakat al-Muqāwamah al-ʾIslāmiyyah, or Islamic Resistance Movement) will never lay down its weapons. It will regroup and continue to collaborate with Iran and its Arab supporters, including Turkey and Qatar.

Hamas infiltrated southern Israel on October 7, 2023 and killed over 1,000 people and kidnapped over 250 people to Gaza. Since then, Israel and Hamas had been at war.

Israel didn’t “lose control of itself” and the “revenge” was greatly hampered by other people (bo.biden, harris, etc.) getting in the way of payback upon the demonic evil.
The calls for “ceasefire”….which there had been on Oct 6..kept some of the goons alive to continue murdering and lying about it.
