When 9/11 hit, my Muslim background came to the forefront of my life and I knew I would respond to the atrocity with my art. So I thought about my Muslim background, what we were taught to hate, and I came up with the idea of Pigman, as he’s the last thing in the world that the Islamic enemy would want to face: An ex-Muslim who’s big, ruthless and who wears pigskin leather to exploit their pigotry. And then there’s the story within the story, of twin brothers, one a recovered Muslim, one a born again Muslim. The recovered Muslim, Killian Duke, is the cartoonist behind the Pigman comic book, and the born again Muslim, Salaam Duka, becomes his arch enemy, echoing Pigman’s arch enemy, SuperJihad. And now some details about PIGMAN #1
This is a relaunch of my longtime series, The Infidel, featuring Pigman, which is now simply titled PIGMAN. Issue 1 will include both issue 1 and 2 of my old old series, but it will be remastered, where I will being going through the comics, page by page, and improve them, in drawing and dialogue, and I will also be adding more moments, scenes and pages to the issue, as well as new covers. This is an opportunity for me to introduce Pigman to a new audience, and I’m very much looking forward to continuing my series with your help. If this campaign goes well, I can move on to issue 2, and then by issue 3, it will be all new material and I hope to finish up the series with issue 6. And then wrap it all up in a pigskin leather bound hardcover.
