A large and violent mob of almost 1000 Muslims attacked the Udayagiri Police Station in Mysuru, Karnataka, on Monday night and left at least 14 police personnel, including two inspectors, severely injured. As reported, this violence was triggered by a WhatsApp status posted by a Hindu youth named Suresh, which provoked the Muslim men. This incident has once again highlighted how Muslim violence has become the norm in Karnataka since the Muslim-pandering political party assumed power.
The tension in Mysore began when the Hindu youth posted a meme celebrating the electoral victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), an Indian political party often dubbed as anti-Muslim and pro-Hindu, in Delhi recently. Members of the Muslim community were agitated by this post, which led to widespread outrage on February 10, 2025. The enraged mob descended at the Udayagiri Police Station and demanded immediate action against Suresh. Despite the police taking the Hindu youth into custody and registering a case, the crowd continued to remain aggressive and refused to disperse. One must note that the so-called offensive post was a celebratory post about the winning of a political party in a democratic country, which not only just prompted Muslims to gather at a police station to strong-arm government officials, but even the police officials arrested an ordinary civilian for exercising his freedom of expression instead of taking action against an aggressive mob. This incident demonstrates the dreadful influence of Muslim mobs over the governance and public institutions in the democratic and secular country India claims to be.
The situation had turned worse by 9:30 p.m.; the demonstrators began throwing stones at the police station, injuring several officials and causing severe damage to public property. Assistant Commissioner of Police Shantamallappa and Inspector Mahadevaswamy had to be hospitalized.
This violent outburst underscored the growing challenge of maintaining law and order in the face of rising tensions and hardline Muslim elements in the state. Karnataka has seen frequent instances of mob violence in recent years. The attack on Udayagiri Police Station is only a replay of the 2023 DJ Halli-KG Halli riots, during which police stations were torched and properties were vandalized by an enraged Muslim mob that had been triggered by a random social media post. The Popular Front of India (PFI), notorious for its pro-jihad, pro-Sharia, Muslim activities, has often been accused of instigating such violence.
KN Rajanna, who is a cabinet minister in the state, drew intense criticism for his statement, “Udayagiri is a 100% Muslim-populated area. Naturally, the people there would be enraged. The police should have taken the accused elsewhere.” Many interpreted his remarks as justifying mob violence, leading to widespread condemnation from opposition leaders.
BJP leader Swami strongly criticized Rajanna’s statement and questioned whether the Congress government was surrendering control of Muslim-majority areas to pro-jihad elements.
Security was tightened in the Narasimharaja Assembly constituency after the Monday attack. Additional forces, including six Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and Central Armed Reserve (CAR) units, along with eight senior police inspectors, have also been deployed. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible for the attack.
An FIR has been registered, and the case has been transferred to the Central Crime Branch (CCB). Four specialized teams have been formed to track down the culprits behind the violence.
But will any of these efforts be effective in curbing future violence, or are they only eyewash to calm the people temporarily? Despite severe threats to public safety, the Congress-led Karnataka government had withdrawn cases against rioters involved in the earlier incidents. This move, though widely criticized, had fostered further lawlessness. It would not be wrong to say Udayagiri is a direct consequence of the Muslim-pandering government’s failure to take decisive action against radical groups.
On Tuesday, leaders from the Opposition visited the Udayagiri Police Station to assess the damage and discuss the breakdown in law and order with officials. Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) (Law and Order) R. Hitendra also visited the site and instructed officials to identify the masterminds behind the attack and investigate possible links to jihad groups.
ADGP Hitendra stated, “Seven police personnel were injured in the stone-pelting incident. We have formed a local police team to track down and arrest those responsible. Investigations are ongoing to determine if any organized group orchestrated the violence. The situation is currently under control.”
Swami further questioned how an 800-strong mob was allowed to reach the police station, throw stones, and create chaos without immediate intervention. “Where was the government when this was happening? This is nothing but appeasement politics at its worst,” he stated, demanding an independent inquiry into the attack.
Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka echoed these concerns, pointing out the increasing number of violent incidents in Karnataka since Siddaramaiah took office. He condemned Minister Rajanna’s defense of the attackers, calling it an insult to the police force and a clear indication that the Congress government prioritizes appeasement over justice.
Such blatant appeasement emboldens jihadist elements to resort to violence whenever they claim their religious sentiments are hurt, posing a serious challenge to law enforcement agencies.
Failure to act decisively could lead to a state where mobs dictate law and order, while the government remains a passive observer and Muslim mobs will take over the state that hosts India’s Silicon Valley.
