71-Year-Old Israeli Grandfather Recounts His Horrific Experience as a Captive of Hamas

Luis Har is a 71-year-old Israeli grandfather who was taken from his home at Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak on October 7, 2023 by Hamas terrorists. He was finally freed from captivity in the Gazan city of Rafah in “a daring military operation” carried out by the IDF in February 2024. “The hostages today are suffering from prolonged hunger,” released hostage Luis Har said in an interview with Maariv.”Hamas takes all the aid,” he continued. “I was there; I know what delaying the deals means. Every day increases fear, danger, and suffering. We must not wait, and we must not delay because every passing day increases the concern that, in the end, there will be no one left to bring back.”Har, who was abducted on October 7 from Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, was later freed in a daring military operation in Rafah in February 2024. In his interview, he described the terrifying moments of his abduction, his prolonged captivity in the home of a Hamas operative in southern Gaza, and his eventual rescue and return to Israel….

Har said the captors’ treatment of the hostages varied. “There were some moments of humanity, but not the majority. Most of them were either drugged or completely inhumane.”

“The man of the house, for example, took care of us and made it a point to reassure us that we would be okay. He said, ‘If there’s peace between us, I’ll come to your kibbutz to eat pizza at your place.’ That doesn’t negate the brutality of him and the others, who constantly threatened and shouted. They thought our situation would end in two or three days, but suddenly it became long-term.”

Humor became a lifeline for Har and his fellow captives.

“At some point, we started laughing whenever they said, ‘shwaya shwaya’ (slowly, slowly). I’d say to the man of the house, ‘Come on, shwaya shwaya, we’ve already been here for weeks.’ Humor saved us.”

Har described the challenges of dwindling resources. “I cooked. At first, it was easy; there was everything—canned goods, vegetables, cheese—and they brought pitas every day. But over time, the food ran out. Eventually, Fernando [Merman] and I were sharing one pita a day, dividing it into pieces so we wouldn’t finish it all at once.”

His narrative tells of kidnapped Israelis existing in a miasma of fear: initial fear at the way they were dragged along the ground — “they treated us like rags” — to a waiting Toyota. While in that car, as it neared Khan Yunis, Har saw crowds of menacing teenagers thronging the vehicle; they were carrying large shears and came close to the car, “making threatening gestures as if they were about to cut us to pieces. The terrorists kept shooting in the air and sped through the crowd to prevent them from lynching us.” The Hamas terrorists wanted to keep the terrified hostages alive, not out of compassion, for they had already killed in a joyous mood many kibbutzim, but in order to have them available for the purposes of a future swap for imprisoned Palestinians. In captivity, every opening of their cell door filled them with dread, and they would think to themselves that “this is it. We’ve reached the final stop.”

At the beginning, Har described the food as adequate, but the amount they received steadily diminished, and before he was rescued, Luis Har was being given each day only a single piece of pita, which he had to share with another hostage.

The constant terror, the threats of being killed from both a mob of teenagers wielding shears and from their Hamas captors, the malnourishment (each day, only one-half of a single pita), the thin mattresses on a frozen floor that they were forced to sleep on, the freezing weather that they had to endure while wearing clothes fit for a summer outing — all this is what Luis Har experienced. But he was one of the lucky ones. He was rescued in February, after only four months of captivity. The hostages now in Hamas’ grip have been held captive for sixteen months, often in darkened tunnels for months at a time. Imagine living in a dark tunnel, half-starved and crazed with fear, fear of rape, of beatings, fear of being murdered, for sixteen months.

There is one part of Luis Har’s story that deserves special attention. He says that during the attack by Hamas operatives on October 7, they were accompanied by civilians: “There were many women and teenagers looting houses, running in all directions, and trying to enter homes along with the terrorists.” This should remind the world that many of those who are described as the “innocent civilians of Gaza” were in fact not innocent at all. Many hundreds of them eagerly entered the kibbutzim alongside the 6,000 Hamas operatives. Some went along for the fun of seeing Israelis raped, tortured, mutilated, and murdered — perhaps some were even allowed by Hamas to join in. Others just wanted to loot the houses of the Israelis and joined Hamas members in “trying to enter homes along with terrorists.” They wanted loot left by the dead, and the dying. These were not “innocent civilians.” And hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza who support Hamas still, despite or rather because of the October 7 atrocities, cannot be described as “innocent civilians.” They are no more innocent than the Germans who knew perfectly well what was going on in the death camps, where the railroad cars emptied their ghastly cargo day after day, and human smoke rose from the crematoria.

  1. Since they were actively taking part, they are worse than the Germans who *knew* what was happening in the camps but didn’t do anything.

    I had two aunts who lived in Germany when the nazis were doing all of those atrocious things. They and others knew some of what went on, but had no power to stop it. Had they tried to stop it, they would have been murdered. They would not have been able to stop it.

    So, these mozlums who went with hamas and stole the belongings of the dead and kidnapped; went along to have ‘fun’ watching the demonic actions, are far worse than the Germans who *knew* what was happening in the death camps.

    The average German had no more power to stop what was happening than do Americans, or French or Germans, or Brits do today to stop their governments from supporting mozlum terror.

    On the other hand, the mozlums in gaza approve of what hamas has done, and new recruits to the terror group are up in the thousands.

    • I agree with you. Think of what Western gov’ts are doing to civilians now. How Islamic mobs are allowed to do just about anything, yet anyone who points it out is thrown in jail. Thinking of the UK, Germany, and other places in particular. Those in charge are against all who get in their way.

      Having watched many documentaries from WW2, with Jewish survivors telling their stories, and what happened to their families, it’s clear that many Germans were helping Jews. Issuing fake passports, etc. to those who were stuck there and needed to be incognito. Nazi officers, gave them documents. Obviously they were in the machine but working within it–at risk of their own lives if anyone snitched or it was discovered–to save Jews.

      Tommy Robinson is in jail now, an 18 month sentence, in solitary b/c if allowed to be with the other prisoners the Islamic gangs in there would make short work of him. He is in there b/c of HIS OWN GOV’T!!

      It takes a large group of people cooperating to take down an established regime. Just running out at them shaking your fist won’t save anyone, not yourself in particular.

      Yes, the ghoulish Islamic religious ideology, wherever it is entrenched (and in GAZA it is their bread and butter for most part, they teach hatred from the cradle) encourages the people to do the things Hamas and civilians did to the Jews–and rejoice in it. They still have a choice. But many CHOSE to participate.

  4. An evil book is able make a wicked influence in those who are indoctrinated in its teaching and then creates evil men. As observed in the horrendous atrocities committed by the jihadists of Hamas on October 7th 2023 when those Muslim terrorists invaded Israel on horrible day. For that religious book of Islam, the Qur ‘an , which is the foundation of both Islam and its Hamas instructs in the violence and killing of what it terms “disbelievers” As found in ,for example, Surah 2:191. 4:89. 5:33. 9:5,111,123. 47:4

    Furthermore, the Qur ‘an teaches that Jews are really of “apes and swine.”in human form As seen in the Qur ‘ran in 2:65; 7:166.; 5:60.

    All this came into the horrific Islamic terrorists demonic and monstrously cruel and vicious Hamas attacks on October 7th 2023 which the Hamas jihadist inflected all those savage abominations against the unarmed and peaceful Jewish people of the State of Israel.

    This that reason the Qu ‘ran needs to and should be exposed for that hoax that it actually is.

    That has already been done, for in the book THE ISLAMIC INVASION by Robert Morey on pages 145 through 157 in which he wrote a section on the Qu‘ran with its self-contradictions. Just two of the many he cited are the following “The Qu’ran differs on whether a day is a thousand years or fifty thousand years in God’s sight’ and “Who was first to believe? Abraham or Moses [Sura 6:14 versus 7:143]? The above is inconsistent and illogical. Further, Morey wrote about “The fact that Judaism and Christianity broke up into different sects was used in the Qu ‘ran to prove that they are not of God [Suras 30:20-32. 42:13, 14]. Yet Islam has broken up into many warring sects and therefore cannot be true if the Quran is right.”

    Moreover, Morey in his book shows many more contradictions and absurdities in the Quran, there are and how Muhammad incorporated extra Biblical and Jewish folklore along with pre-Islamic Arabian myth and parts of Zoroastrian and Hindu stories into the Quran.

    Furthermore, the Muslims claim that “the Quran is the direct, literal word of God unmodified in any way by the Prophet who uttered them at the bidding of God.” In addition , in the book UNVEILING ISLAM by Ergun Mehmet Caner and Eethi Caner has shown that the Quran was modified in the following account on pages 45. “Muhammad felt the need to improve on the words of Allah, since he changed Allah’s wisdom for his own on several occasions. A hadith tells of the nonchalant emendations of Muhammad:’ On a number of occasions he [a scribe] had, with the Prophet’s consent changed the closing words of verses. For example, when the prophet had said ‘God is mighty and wise ‘ Adbollah b. Abi Sarh suggested writing down ‘Knowing and wise’ and the Prophet answered that there was no objection. Having observed a succession of changes of this type, Adbollah renounced Islam on the grounds that revelations, if from God could not be changed at the prompting of a scribe such as himself. After his apostasy he went to Mecca and joined the Qorayshites.’ Other writers reveal that later Muhammad and his people did go war with the Qorayshites and he personally killed Abdollah. Obviously Abdollah knew too much and Muhammad wanted Abdollah’s knowledge to die with him.”

    In conclusion, the Qu ‘ran is not only a fiction, it’s also a hoax.

    Even though the above essay was posted before, it should now be added that the last statement of the above that “the Qu ‘ran is not only a fiction, it’s also a hoax.” To put this in a Biblical way. As in from the Bible, it may be truly explained that the Qu ‘ran is a deceptive work of “the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.” Ephesians 14:12.. [N.I.V.]

    • When I read it I thought “This is written by the warlords for their warlord movement to conquer countries for their empire and by ‘religion’ to take complete control of their members to do all the dirty work for them. after all, who can argue with Allah. who can question Allah’

      And since I am not Religious I never believed in a satanic existence UNTIL I saw Islam in action. I knew humans could be good and evil but the kind of evil in Islam is beyond human. Now I know there is Demonic entities at work. I want it Gone. Wiped out. Who can question Allah? All who know that entity is not God or good.

And those crowds of menacing teenagers (many no doubt younger than 18 years old) waving shears and threatening to slice and hack and cut defenceless Jewish captives – men women and children – to pieces….THOSE are the ‘innocent children’ that the Pope, and so many other pious fools, have been wailing about, and sentimentalising over (especially at Christmas-time) for the past 15 months…. They are not innocent. I would view as an innocent child only the pre-verbal infants; because from the moment a Muslim child in Gaza can walk and talk they are steeped in hate and trained for Jihad against any and all Infidels. They are the Mohammedjugend of Gaza.

    Copies of Har’s testimony – about those gleefully ululating women and teenagers looting the homes of the dead and dying, and those crowds of bloodthirsty teenagers waving shears menacingly at the hostages – should be sent to every western politician and ‘opinion leader’. They should be asked, point blank: do you consider ‘innocent’ people who behave like this???

  7. We should notice that there were some Thais captives, they are not Jews, and Thais do not have a grudge with Palestine, yet they were captured and tortured by the Hamas.
    It should show that Hamas and Palestine do not make war for being “occupied”, but they make war for Islam against all non muslims. It is very Islamic.
