Old Joe Biden has begun his post-presidential career, which is no doubt going to rival Jimmy Carter’s in undeserved media adulation, by apparently becoming a Freemason. This would be an utterly unremarkable incident in the life of a man who lives in the world where people are constantly slapping each other on the back, giving each other awards, and making their friends and allies honorary members of this or that organization, were it not for the fact that the Roman Catholic Church, to which Old Joe ostensibly belongs, bans Catholics from becoming Freemasons on pain of excommunication. Would Old Joe so flagrantly flout the rules of the Church to which he so ostentatiously belongs? Come on, man! Sure he would.
The announcement from the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of South Carolina is straightforward and unambiguous. Grandly headed “Resolution of Membership – President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.,” it states: “It is with great pleasure that I, Victor C. Major 27th The Most Worshipful Grand Master, welcome our newest member to the Prince Hall Family. On Sunday, January 19, 2025, at a private event, Master Mason membership with full honors were conferred upon President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. in recognition of his outstanding service to the United States of America.” Yeah, it was outstanding, all right, if you’re a socialist internationalist who wants to destroy the U.S. not only as a world power but as a nation-state, but whatever.
Accompanying the Freemasons’ announcement are three photos of Old Joe with Prince Hall officials including Victor C. Major, Worshipful Grandmaster of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge; apparently they were taken upon the former figurehead’s induction into the lodge. Since this took place on Jan. 19, the old mountebank was still president at the time.
According to The Pillar, which describes itself as “a Catholic media project focused on smart, faithful, and serious journalism, from committed and informed Catholics who love the Church,” this places Old Joe in some ecclesiastical hot water: “Catholics have been banned from joining masonic lodges and organizations since 1738, and are subject to canonical penalties for doing so.” A Catholic who is the Vatican’s clear stance on the morality and grave sinfulness of a Catholic who is “‘enrolled’ in a masonic lodge” is “in a state of grave sin and may not receive Holy Communion.”
The Pillar, however, is not sure that Biden has incurred excommunication, as clearly he is simply being honored for his alleged achievements, and it is possible that he did not actually accept the membership. And my friend and PJ Media colleague Lincoln Brown points out another salient fact: “Technically Biden can’t become a Freemason. I was 32nd degree mason and you cannot initiate ‘an old man in his dotage.’”

If you look back to 1982, the Pope lifted the ban and permitted Catholics to join Masonic Lodges. He learned a large number of Vatican officials were Masons. 6 of the 7 volunteer fathers I have known in this life were Masons. The doctor who cared for me, delivered me and arranged my adoption was a Mason. Obviously, I am a Mason. Many members of my Masonic Lodge including several Past Masters are Catholic and Masons. I doubt JRB would pass a vote for membership in my Lodge.

Frank, I can’t see where this happened–in fact, the Catholic Church just affirmed the ban on Freemasonry in 2023:

I’m sure that some Catholics *have* become Freemasons–but it still seems to be officially banned.

The lift of the ban took place during my instruction. The memory lessons required to pass to the second and third degrees are taught “mouth to ear”. I remember a Time magazine article being published that my instructor and I discussed. It is worth knowing that there are 2 lodges, Prince Hall and Blue that use exactly the same ritual word for word but do not recognize each other. Except for 2 honorary degrees, KCCH and 33rd, I have attended every degree from the Lodge, Scottish and York Rites and Shrine. I have seen nothing that I can understand to be disrespectful or offensive to my Catholic Brothers. As my Master Mason degree was conducted April 26, 1982, (the anniversary of my adopted father’s birth) the date of the change is between January and April 1982.

Frank, I had thought that Pope John Paul II actually confrimed the Catholic Church ban on Freemasonry the following year–1983.
But I agree that many Christians have not seen anything in Freemasonry that contradicts Christianity, and certainly there have been devout Christians who have also been practicing Freemasons–Founding Father George Washington appear to have been among them.

That fact goes against the Catholic doctrine…but both biden and pelosi and kerry and so many others, have escaped being excommunicated because they are some of the *important* people on Planet Earth.
Why should being part of a lodge be any different for biden and his unfaithful faith?
“outstanding” in his “service.” biden should be “outstanding.” Out, standing in a field, waiting for God’s Judgment, which is coming.
biden may as well be a sour pickle for all of the *faith* in Christ he doesn’t show. Put him in a jar of vinegar….give him a “vinegar face,” like the nuns of the pope’s description. Enough with biden. And harris. And all of the other evil, hypocritical, lying goons.

More hypocrisy. But I have to admit this bothers me less than other things he’s done–many of the Founding Fathers, including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, and Paul Revere–wre all Freemasons. Of course, Biden does not have the intellectual or moral standing of any of these men.

How does a private secret organisation with vicious attitudes towards other groups in society add anything of worth to modern open democracies.
As it is, membership of the Freemasons has been in freefall in recent times.
There was a time when every man wore a hat in public and quite a few of them knew the secret handshake and had the special blue pencil ready to strike through the name of any Catholic applying in the corporate world.
In that era the outer limit of scandal was a Royal marrying an American divorcee, and a prince Harry marrying a mere American person of color was unthinkable.
The watershed moment came when JFK became the first Catholic (!!!) President of the USA. And he didn’t wear a hat. Men got used to being hatless and also found they didn’t need to belong to odd societies to make their way in the world.
