Trump has described Gaza as a “real mess” and a “demolition site.” He wants two-thirds of the population in Gaza — 1.5 million out of a total of 2.2 million people — to be removed, and resettled in Jordan and Egypt.The proposal is startling, but deserves serious consideration. US President Donald Trump said that Jordan and Egypt should take more Palestinians from Gaza when he spoke to reporters on Saturday.
Trump said he spoke about the matter with Jordan’s King Abdullah on the phone earlier in the day and told him that the Gaza Strip is currently a “real mess.”
He said that he told King Abdullah during the call, “I’d love you [Jordan] to take on more because I’m looking at the whole Gaza strip right now, and it’s a mess, it’s a real mess. I’d like him to take people.”
King Abdullah relies heavily on American aid, which in recent years has made Jordan the third highest recipient of such aid, after Israel and Egypt (and excluding the extraordinary sums given to Ukraine, which are likely to soon end). It would be difficult for him to refuse Trump’s request; he might have to agree to taking in about a quarter of that number, about 375,000, with Egypt, a much larger country, taking in the rest — 1,125,000.
With only 700,000 people remaining in Gaza after 1.5 million are transferred to Jordan and Egypt, the reduced numbers will make it much harder for Hamas, as a consequence of this transfer, to continue to be a threat to Israel. And with Gaza’s population so greatly reduced, the IDF’s task of locating and killing Hamas terrorists will be made much easier. Is it any wonder that Smotrich and Ben Gvir welcomed Trump’s proposal?
Trump has in his first week in office put a hold on all foreign aid, excepting only military aid to Israel and Egypt. He could make clear to General El-Sisi that he expects to continue to exempt Egypt from the general withholding of aid as long as Egypt shows a willingness to accept Gazans for resettlement. Jordan, like all recipients of American foreign aid, except Israel and Egypt, has just had its aid frozen; Trump could also make clear to King Abdullah that restoring aid to Jordan will depend on his willingness to take in a few hundred thousand Gazans.
This proposal could be presented to the world as what, in fact, it is meant to be: a humanitarian enterprise, helping Gazans out of their current misery, though it would bring geopolitical benefits to Israel as well.
The humanitarian aspect would be clear: Gazans who are now living in tents in what is a vast “demolition site” and hardly able to move through the piles of rubble that we see every night on the news, would be moved to the safety and much greater comfort of homes newly built for them in Egypt and Jordan, that would be paid for, in Trump’s calculations, not by the Americans, but by the fabulously rich Arab states of the Gulf — Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Could Jordan and Egypt be seen to reject helping their Palestinian brothers? And could those two richest of the Arab states, that each possess trillion-dollar sovereign wealth funds, refuse to pay for the building of those 1.5 million prefabricated homes that could be quickly erected? And to sweeten the pot, and overcome any reluctance to take part, Trump could perhaps increase his economic — but not military — aid to both Jordan and Egypt.
Here is how Trump put his proposal:
“You’re talking about a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing,” Trump said. “I don’t know, something has to happen, but it’s literally a demolition site right now. Almost everything’s demolished and people are dying there, so I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing in a different location where I think they could maybe live in peace for a change.”
This is one of those Trump surprises that at first glance seems so crazy, but then, the more you think about them, the more sense they make.

I actually don’t fully agree w/ Trump that the neighbors should be the ones taking them. He should instead put pressure on backers of Hamas – namely Qatar and Turkey – to take them. Advantage: they are not in territory next to Israel, so can’t fire rockets at them. In Qatar’s case, they can let go of their foreign workers that they hired from Asia, and instead take in, say 3 million Palestinians. It also helps them retain their Arab profile: currently, their population is 88% foreign, w/ 50% being from the Indian subcontinent. Instead, they can let go of them, and instead put all those Palis to quasi-slave labor. They won’t even have to withhold any passports
Jordan already has a majority Palestinian population, and is barely stable, w/ Abdullah hanging on. If it has to take in another 3 million, it would be even harder, and then Israel could have a Hamas regime in Amman. We also saw what Egypt was like in 2011 under the Morsi regime. It’s best not to send any Palis to those 2, but instead to countries like Qatar, Kuwait and Turkey, and solve this issue for good. Oh, and while we are at it, not just Gaza, but Judea and Samaria too should be annexed by Israel, and those Palis who still believe in jihad fi sabillah should be sent packing to one of these distant countries

Where can they go during the rebuild if no country will take them? Palestinians have been destabilizing and violent in many Muslim countries. They will say it is ethnic cleansing on behalf of Israel and refuse. Actually, the Arab countries have always wanted the Palestinians as a thorn in Israel’s side. They have proven to have no compassion for the people.

I don’t remember any war situation in recent history where the “civilian population” was hindered to leave the war zone, except Gaza. What Trump is suggesting is absolutely logical and should have been allowed since Oct 8th, 2023, but I assume there’s a reason for why Egypt and Jordan were so vehemently against it. Was it perhaps to kettle in the “civilian population” of Gaza and make this situation as difficult as possible for Israel to be able to conduct the war? It’s not only a badge of shame for Egypt and Jordan, but also for the other neighboring countries in the Middle East, and for the rest of the world.

There’s nothing new about Trump’s suggestion. I’ve seen many posts saying something similar, at least as an interim measure to get “civilians” out the way of the bombs.
It looks like common sense.
It looks like humanitarian sense.
But it has been clear from Day One that Hamas was forcing Gazans to stay and that Egypt had barred the exit. So the so-called “open air prison” became just that.
Now the rather sheep-like Gazans are trailing back to their “homes” and Hamas will encourage that caravan to the disaster of Israel double bombing their piles of rubble.

Actually, on this issue, President Hafez al-Assad of Syria had it right in the 80s, when he once told Yasser Arafat that Palestinians, Jordanians and Lebanese were all Syrians. Technically, he was right: throughout muslim rule, “Palestine” was always a part of “ash-Sham”, which translates to the Levant. All the land west of the Euphrates, south of Antioch and going right up to the Suez canal (granted, it didn’t always exist) and the Mediterranean Sea. The capital was Damascus, which is why any rulers, such as Saladin, were also known as the sultans of Syria.

A cursory view of history one readily sees that most ‘Gazans’ come from Egypt and and Syria. But note that Iraq, present day Syria, and Jordan were created in 1948 by the colonial victors of WWII- England and France. Also note that Palestinian people was a brain child Nasser of Egypt in 1959. Palestinians have been troublemakers in every country they have lived in. The best thing to do is to scatter them so that there are no more than one Palestinian family in a city or town and send them to places with few Muslims and Jews. Some are so dangerous that they need to be executed or locked up for life, so these people shoukd be excluded. Obviously, most countries don’t want them. However, if the people come with investment funds, and the receiving country receives some financial advantages, the people could be repatriated. Anyone who supported Hamas or other violent group needs to be relocated and have language training and some mentors on culture and business. Hopefully, they will be so busy getting used to the country that they won’t have time to agitate on social media. Above all, they need to be away from one another. It’s not collective punishment because they will be well prepared to prosper.
