There’s good reason for JD Vance to be “heartbroken” over the left-leaning U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. It isn’t about faith and righteousness for them. Their support for illegal immigration is all about the gravy train, as Robert Spencer wrote in 2021:
The bishops, of course, have 91 million reasons — indeed, 534 million reasons — to turn against the truth and disregard the safety and security of the American people: “In the Fiscal Year 2016, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) received more than $91 million in government funding for refugee resettlement. Over the past nine years, the USCCB has received a total of $534,788,660 in taxpayer dollars for refugee resettlement programs.” With that kind of money involved, is it any surprise that the bishops want more “refugees,” and show no concern whatsoever for the possibility that they might be facilitating the entry of criminals and jihad terrorists?
The USCCB is also in step with Pope Francis’ views of illegal migration, yet to this day he remains protected by the walled Vatican and his Swiss Guard — paid for by the flock.
“Vice President Vance criticizes US bishops over immigration,” by Camillo Barone, National Catholic Reporter, January 26, 2025:
Vice President J.D. Vance sharply criticized the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in a television interview that aired Jan. 26 for the bishops’ condemnation of President Donald Trump’s recent immigration enforcement policies, suggesting that the concerns were motivated by financial interests.
In a heated exchange on CBS’s Face the Nation, Vance defended the Trump administration’s decision to empower Immigration and Customs Enforcement to conduct operations in sensitive locations, including schools and churches.
Vance was responding to questions about the bishops’ conference Jan. 22 statement condemning Trump’s orders on immigration, describing them as “deeply troubling” because they “will have negative consequences.”
Identifying himself as a practicing Catholic, Vance said he was “heartbroken” with the bishops’ position and questioned their motives, suggesting they were not rooted in pastoral concerns but instead based upon substantial federal funding U.S. dioceses receive to help resettle immigrants.
“I think the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has, frankly, not been a good partner in common sense immigration enforcement that the American people voted for,” the vice president said. “And I hope, again, as a devout Catholic, that they’ll do better.”….

Perhaps we should call for reconvening the Council of Trent. That ought to get things straightened out.

Vance also had harsh words for the pope. Will he be excommunicated? The pope goes after his enemies..a.k.a. his critics..

Old Joe Biden should be excommunicated for becoming a Freemason, and he should be denied communion for his pro-abortion stance.

As should pelosi and john kerry. Probably a whole lot of others in ‘high’ station who are all in on the baby murders for profit.
But they face a Higher Power than the pope and his cohorts.

So true, somehistory. The Catholic Church is not a cafeteria; you can’t pick and choose which tenets you will and will not follow. Pelosi, Biden, et.al are CINOs.
Catholic In Name Only—imho.
Even though I’m Eastern Rite, I get inundated with solicitations to support Catholic Social Services, Catholic Immigration Services, etc. I can’t in good faith donate since they are opposed to lawful enforcement of our borders.
And Pope Francis is hypocritical, surrounded by walls as he is—-

Thank you, GE.
I often wonder if those people have ever read and considered what Jesus Christ had to say about those who claim, ”Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in your Name, and perform powerful works in your Name, and expel demons in your Name,” And Yet, I will say to them, “I never knew you. Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness.”
Evidently not.
It’s a waste of time for people to put on the name of being Christian and then go so completely in the opposite direction.
What do they hope to gain? We can’t fool God nor Christ.

Pope is a great advocate/supporter of Islam hugging the leaders, while the muslims all over the world are brutally killing Christians simply because they are Christians. So much for the pope and his subordinates, the bishops
Bexarkat says
Perhaps the best means to resolve this is to request Catholic Charities assume full responsibility for resettlement of these ‘migrants’ to include feeding, housing, education, and medical care…did I miss anything?
Billy says
Trump should stop ALL money and funding for ANY and ALL migration, resettlement, immigration, etc. to religious organizations or any other organizations. This is like a tax on American citizens. Particularly dangerous are Islam and its Muslims.
Like a Foreign Terrorist Organization(FTO) as designated by the USA Secretary of State, Islam is a MUSLIM TERRORIST ORGANIZATION against all Non-Muslims as taught in the Quran(Quran 2:216; 4:95; 8:12,39,74; 9:5,29,41,49; 88,111,123;49:15 and more). More specifically, Islam is a Muslim Terrorist Ideology and Criminal Organization of discrimination, segregation, supremacy, genocide, polygamy, deceit, hatred, incitement, sedition, rape, terrorism, and violence against all Non-Muslims as taught in the Quran. Fundamentally, Islam is a Terrorist Criminal Enterprise. The FRUIT of Islam is continual WAR, terrorism, discrimination, and violence against all Non-Muslims; this FACT must be taught and broadcast to the general public to prohibit Islam, its Mosques, and its Schools. Also, Islam is an Antichrist System terrorizing Israel, Christians, and Non-Muslims. Plus, there is NO EQUALITY UNDER THE LAW in Islam or in Islamic Law(Quran 98:6-7; 9:29 and more). In Sahih Bukhari(V6,B60,N80), Abu Huraira narrates, “‘You(Muslims) are the best of peoples ever raised for mankind.’ means, the best of peoples for the people, as you bring them[Non-Muslims] with chains on their necks till they embrace Islam[see Quran 3:110].” See also Quran 69:30-32; 3:151.
Non-Muslims CANNOT have peace with Islam and its Muslims because Islam and its murderous god, Allah, demand a continuous, Muslim war against unbelievers where Non-Muslims are CRIMINALS under Islam as Allah in Qur’an 8:39 says, “And engage in war with them[Non-Muslims] until there will not be sedition and the religion will be completely to Allah…” HENCE, NON-MUSLIMS MUST MAKE ISLAM, ITS MOSQUES, ITS SCHOOLS, ITS ORGANIZATIONS, ETC. ILLEGAL UNDER THE LAW. Similarly, Islam and its many Organizations must be identified and publicly declared to be MUSLIM TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS for their funding, teaching, and support of terrorism, violence, and discrimination against Non-Muslims(eg. Quran 9:5,29,111 and more).
Islam promotes a terroristic, Muslim war against unbelievers when Allah in Qur’an 49:15 says, “Surely the believers are only those who believed in Allah and his messenger. They do not doubt, and they performed JIHAD with THEIR MONEY AND THEIR LIVES for the sake of Allah. Those are the truthful.”
Deceitful Allah promises Heavenly Paradise to Muslims for acts of Muslim killing in a terrorist war against Non-Muslims and hypocrites when Quran 9:111 says, “Surely Allah has purchased from the believers[Muslims] their souls and their money so that they may have the garden[Heavenly Paradise]. They engage in war for the sake of Allah, so they kill and are killed…”

Just another reason I left the catholic church. Nothing bit a nest of vipers and hypocrites/

Kuffar: I totally agree with you. I left the Catholic Corporation over 50 years ago, not because I no longer believe in God, but I no longer believe in that organization of pedophiles and power-mad, mostly homosexual men. The Catholic Corporation’s avarice to encourage more new customers (to replace those such as you and me) has spawned a blatant and vigorous encouragement of illegal immigration. The Corporation is not interested in the welfare of the illegals. They represent a new income stream. Nothing more than customers.
Westman says
Isn’t the Catholic Church the first Global Government? It has no allegiance to any nation except the Vatican which it declares to be a seperate nation within Italy.
If we want to see what globalism will be, look no further. It’s Big Brother without the teeth. It will carry out its objectives above, around, and underhanded regardless of any nation’s interests or barriers. $534,788,660 is quite an incentive, particularly in regaining needed funds as attendance is dismal in the US and so many assets were lost due to past behavior of some Priests.
The government needed help to settle illegal immigrants, was willing to spend the cash, and the Church was ready with its hand out. When some of their helped illegals participate in crime, don’t expect the least reflection or pang of conscience.
Jesus rightly called for personal aid to the weary and downtrodden. He didn’t suggest that a religious organization should force them into other people’s homes and nations – particularly if there were enemies and dangerous criminals among them.

On top of that, the way I see it, the Catholic Church in this country sees its following in decline – like all churches in this country – and therefore wants to pump up its numbers by encouraging immigration – both legal and illegal – from Latin America, almost all of which is Catholic. Not very different from the Dems, who wanna import new voters
As I mentioned elsewhere, the Eastern Orthodox churches seem to be the only ones not infected by this virus

Raised as a Roman Catholic but left the Church for these very reasons. I went “church shopping” this past year+ to @ 50 Christian churches of various denominations in southern Maine. They’re all woke having been infiltrated by Leftists since the 50s and 60s by design.

While I noticed that both Catholic and Protestant (namely Lutheran and Episcopalian) churches have been pretty woke, I was curious about Orthodox Churches. The Russian one is definitely non woke, although unfortunately joining hands w/ islam in Russia in opposing LGBTQ+. From what you write, it seems that Eastern Orthodox Churches – be it Russian, Greek, Serbian,…. are all untainted by wokeness, unlike Protestant and Catholic churches in the West. Since we don’t read about such garbage coming out of Russia, Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria,…..

I have personally attended services in several Eastern Orthodox churches.
All were “untainted by wokeness”.

Here’s an answer, all monies be withheld, all housing be done with the priests, all medical, dental and such be paid by the priests.
So tired of the BS of the church aiding and abetting the illegals, perhaps giving the priests the chance to fully practice what they preach they may have a change of prayer. Not only are these illegals are expensive they bring diseases, crime, education away from American children etc.
No, they need to go. BTW: read the laws of Mexico…just like America but they enforce theirs.

In the US, is there a Christian denomination that is not open borders?

And to think that these “woke” Catholic Bishops are in the Catholic hierarchy “pipeline” to Archbishops / Cardinals / Pope.
John says
IMO, this conference of bishops – and many other so-called ‘liberal’ Christians – have very fuzzy thinking on moral issues, which is caused by a simple – yet profound and longstanding – theological mistake.
IMO, they mistakenly think human spirituality can be an essentially corporate endeavour. Whereas, IMO, it’s not and it can’t be made to be. IMO, human spirituality is essentially about each person’s individual relationship with God. Morality then proceeds out of individual knowledge and trust in God and His ways. Placing the capacity and privilege of each individual to know and love God at the centre of societal organisation then results in the flourishing of a republic like the USA. The alternative ways of organising society are corporate and institutional, whether Marxist or Nationalist/Left or Right – and are open for great abuses of power, hypocrisy and secret motivations at all levels.
We need God at the heart of society – by Him being in the hearts of sincere believers who do good where they are, with what they’ve got, secretly in good conscience before Him. Then with that, some smart organisational strategies can also be very effective. But, IMO, corporate power should not be the main thing for a Church or a nation. If it is, that Institutional Church, or that Nanny State, will become an agent of anti-God forces and ambitions. It happened with the ancient Jewish Religious Institution – which partnered with the secular empire at the time – to do away with that bringing of ultimate spiritual wisdom, truth and grace, our Lord Jesus Christ. And it’s the case with the Institutional Christian Church, which includes but is not limited to, the Catholic Church.

“Tom Homan Takes on the Pope, Exposes Vatican Hypocrisy: ‘Stick to the Catholic Church and Fix That!'”
“Border czar Tom Homan voiced his disagreement with Pope Francis over border policy after the pontiff claimed that the Trump administration’s agenda of deporting illegal aliens is a “disgrace.”
Francis also said that “poor wretches that don’t have anything” would “foot the bill” of deportations.
Homan, who prefaced his remarks to Newsmax by saying he is a lifelong Catholic, pointed out that the Pope’s comments failed to acknowledge that the Vatican City has substantial security measures to protect itself from unknown entrants.
“They have a wall around the Vatican,” Homan said. “And if you illegally enter the Vatican, the crime is serious — you’ll be charged with a serious crime, be jailed.”
““So he can protect the Vatican where he lives, he can build a wall where he lives, but American people are not allowed that? No,” Homan added, balking at the inconsistency.”
The career law enforcement official also warned about the broader consequences of failing to enforce immigration law in the United States.
“Securing the border saves lives. He needs to understand that,” Homan continued. “When less people come, less women get raped by the cartel, less children die in the river, less Americans die from fentanyl overdoses.””
One thing: he should have said “fewer people…fewer women…fewer children…fewer Americans…’
