Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who has called for Washington to stop funding the Jewish state, was named on Jan. 8 to replace Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) as co-chair of a House caucus on cutting defense spending.
Omar will serve alongside Lee’s co-chair, Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.). Lee ran unsuccessfully for Senate in the last cycle instead of seeking reelection.
Omar, a member of the far-left “Squad” in Congress, stated that Lee “has been an incredible leader in the fight to end exorbitant Pentagon waste.”
“It is shameful that we continue to spend more money on a wasteful Pentagon budget than we do on priorities like education, health care and housing combined,” she added….

If you go back to the US Constitution, Article I, Section 8 gives Congress the authority to raise and support Armies and to provide and maintain a Navy. But, unlike the Navy, no appropriation for the Army may be made for more than 2 years. [As a parenthetical, I believe that the US Air Force (and the US Space Force) are unconstitutional entities because the Air Force has its original routes as The Army Air Corps., so theoretical, its funding cannot be for more than 2-years. ]. Air Force appropriations bills are for long term projects.
The U.S. has many external threats, including China, Russia, Iran and North Korea, and potential threats from Turkey and those pesky Houthis. We need to keep our military spending at an adequate level to deter these threats, and if necessary handle them head on. If Omar uses her influence to cut waste in the defense procurement and contracting* process, I would be for that. But I am against eliminating necessary defense programs, especially when she wants to shift the saved money into handouts. Also, I do not believe that she has the brains to understand military technology, the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) as amended by the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFAR), or anything else connected with the military. Among the members of Congress, there are some very qualified individuals that can sit on that Committee. So why give the position to an ex-bartender who was too stupid to see that an Amazon warehouse in her district would have served her constituents financially?
