How the IDF Prepared for War with Hezbollah

The military intelligence unit of the IDF has for a long time been preparing for a war against Hezbollah, figuring out exactly what kinds and numbers of weapons the Lebanese Shi’a terror group possessed, and where they were being hidden, and how to locate them even when they were. being moved from place to place. Furthermore, the IDF studied the command structure of the group — who was responsible for what tasks, what was the chain of command, and who were the commanders who most needed to be eliminated, and in what order. The IDF disclosed on Wednesday that its decapitation of Hezbollah from mid-September until the November 26 ceasefire was not luck, but based on an unprecedented level of infiltration.According to the military, its intelligence branches spent years separately diagnosing each level of Hezbollah’s firepower: mortars, short-range rockets, medium-range rockets, and precision and long-range rockets.Further, military intelligence identified where these items were located and how to strike them, or follow their movements if they were mobile.The IDF added that it performed an unprecedented diagnosis of Hezbollah’s command structure.The fact that the top three full tiers of Hezbollah’s commanders were all eliminated in a matter of weeks was not luck, but a measure of the long term investment in intelligence collection, analysis and precision by the military.

All of this led to the IDF preventing Hezbollah from being able to carry out its own doomsday plans of cutting Tel Aviv skyscrapers to pieces with its 150,000 rocket arsenal….

Now that Hamas has been almost completely destroyed, and Hezbollah severely weakened, the IDF has taken advantage of the collapse of the Assad regime to destroy with airstrikes nearly all of its weapons depots, to keep them from falling into the hands of jihadist forces, as would almost certainly be the case if the IDF did not destroy them. The IDF believes it has destroyed nearly 90% of the military assets accumulated by the Assad regime without, in fact, going to war against Syria itself. Moreover, it succeeded in minimizing Syrian casualties; weapons, not men, were its only intended target.

As with the “pager plot,” the Israelis have for years been preparing for a possible war with Hezbollah. Every aspect of Hezbollah was studied: the kinds and numbers of each weapon or weapons system it possessed, the location of such weapons, the command structure from Nasrallah on down. And then there was also infiltration, that is, the intelligence provided by Lebanese themselves — mostly Christians and Sunni Muslims who deeply resented Hezbollah’s dominance of the country and were able both to collect information about the group on the ground and to supply that information to the IDF.

The lesson of this tale is simple: prepare, prepare, and prepare some more. That’s what the IDF does. That’s what Mossad does. And they have been doing this for years, too, as they plan for what will be the most important event in the Middle East since the creation of Israel in 1948: the destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities.
