An independent MP today spoke out against a proposed ban on first cousins being able to marry in Britain.
Iqbal Mohamed, MP for Dewsbury and Batley, told the House of Commons that many people view family intermarriage as ‘very positive’.
He said it was seen as something that could help ‘build family bonds’ and put families on a more secure financial foothold’.
Mr Mohamed admitted there were ‘health risks’ for the children of such marriages.
But he said a ‘more positive approach’ would be to ‘facilitate advanced genetic test screening’ for couples wishing to marry.
He also called for ‘education programmes’ to be targeted at those communities where family intermarriage is most common, as he told MPs to reject an outright ban.
Mr Mohamed spoke out against Tory MP Richard Holden’s efforts to bring in new legislation to prohibit the marriage of first cousins.
The former Conservative Party chairman this afternoon introduced his Marriage (Prohibited Degrees of Relationship) Bill to the Commons via a ten-minute rule motion….

(1) The following marriages are incestuous and void from the beginning, regardless of whether the relationship is legally recognized:
(a) a marriage between a parent and a child;

All of the patriarchs married their first cousins (Abraham married Sarah who apparently was his niece. That was also a common and honored marriage tradition). I am unaware of Sephardic or Mizrachi custom on this but up until recently first cousin marriage amongst Ashkenazic Jews was not uncommon. Aside from all the other reasons to ban cousin-marriage and its variants, the cost to the NHS — i.e., to the British taxpayer — to treat the much higher incidence of congenital illnesses that are the result of this practice must run into the hundreds of millions of pounds, or more, each year.. In the United States, there is a pervy group of guys called NAMBLA (North American Man-Boy Love Association) which has sought to legalize pederasty (sex between adult men and young boys) there.
If these guys had their wits about them, they would convert to Islam (at least outwardly), and then claim that it’s an accepted practise in Islam (which it is, at least in many parts of the Muslim world), to score points towards having it legalized in the U.S., and no longer punishable by law.

The attempt to vindicate cousin marriage and to play down the harmful effects is now part of the growing influence on British society which in my opinion is to soften the ground for increased Islamism in the UK.
