Will Western governments now start to admit that there is such a thing as the global jihad, and that it is advancing? No, they’re much more likely to continue in their delusions and fantasies until the jihadis get around to confronting them directly.

Amid the chaos, the Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham has emerged as a successor to the regime.

Jihad Watch readers understand what happens in the middle east when a power vacuum happens. Too bad politicians don’t. It’s disgusting to watch the whole world make excuses for this filth and vile behaviors. Good men stay silent instead of protecting our western way of life. I’m losing hope.

If Syria has a chaotic civil war for a while b/w multiple parties – Turkish backed groups vs HTS vs ISIS vs Arab sunni groups vs Kurds vs Druze vs Christians vs….. then it won’t be a base for global jihad. Global jihad needs a stable set-up, where they can plan their operations w/o fearing assassinations, bombings and so on. Afghanistan became an al Qaeda base after 1996, when the Taliban seized power in Kabul and lynched then president Najib, but from 1989 to 1996, when Afghanistan was mired in civil war, it was not a center of jihad
I was watching Caroline Glick yesterday, and one thing she mentioned was that Israel had 3 potential allies in Syria, talking about communities – the Kurds, the Druze (who have neighbors in the Golan who are fully committed to Israel) and maybe the Christians (depending on their level of affinity to Assad). Maybe these groups could form a political and militant alliance, and also tie up w/ the Maronites in Lebanon, as well as explore Israeli support. Also, the Alawites had been in league w/ Iran all this while, but since they probably know that they’re not really a shi’a community, they would do well to snap their ties w/ Iran and Hizbullah, while making peace w/ Israel and exploring alliances w/ the above 3 groups

Good input and insight, however i think that with the current Syria we are actually at the situation where Afghanistan was in 1996.
With a bit of differences. (Assad not being lynched but managed to escape and such.)
What my guess is what will happen, is that the civil war, or as to say islamist fight it out will heat up. More and more international jihadis will enter the country. As all the regional players will want a bite from the land.
So UAE, Dubai, Saudi-Arabia also will pay out and send in international jihadis. There will be a lot of talk behind the curtains and it will take some time and fighting for them to figure out what will happen.
Meanwhile we can only hope that something like ISIS will not emerge here and make things even worse.
However the situation will still deteriorate for years to come. And this place will become for a while a meeting place for international jihadis. Training and fighting ground for them to gain experience, to try out various things.
