The brilliant move by Israel puts the notoriously anti-Israel UN in an awkward position.
In 2023, the U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, “previewed the United States’ priorities for the 78th session of the UN General Assembly and, along with Ambassador Lipstadt, highlighted the United States’ efforts to counter antisemitism and anti-Israel bias at the UN.”
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield also confronted the UN’s problem with Israel this past summer, saying:
I think that we have an Israel problem in the UN. And there is an inordinately over-focus on Israel – even before Gaza – in the UN. It’s something that we have raised on a regular basis…There is no other country in the world that has a monthly meeting on the (Security) Council’s agenda going back decades.
A UN Security Council session in Israel’s favor is decades overdue. The UN is on the spot to manage how all this unfolds, given its deplorable antisemitic history.
“Israel asks US to convene emergency UN Security Council session on Houthis,” by Lazar Berman, Times of Israel, December 24, 2024:
Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar sends a letter to US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield, president of the UN Security Council, asking her to convene an emergency session to condemn Houthi attacks and Iran’s support for the organization’s violence.
In his missive, Sa’ar cites three attacks on Israel over the past week by the Yemeni rebel group, one of which destroyed a school in Ramat Gan.
“I must underscore that the persistent acts of hostility by the Houthis are in flagrant violation of international law,” he writes, adding that they are “an ongoing threat to international peace and security.”..

Wonder whether the Saudis & their Arab allies will respond positively to this? Or will they stay neutral, given that it’s Israel?

I can’t wait for the UN’s response – the anticipation is frightening.

I am the Swami, I can predict the future with great accuracy. And the Swami’s prediction is that te UN will not do anything.
The only way to get a response from the UN is for Israel to light up the Houthis and the Iranians as they’ve never been lit up before.
Now that Israel only has 2 effective fronts, they can unilaterally give the Iranians a first class pounding. Unfortunately probabilistically, a few Iranian mussels may make it through and do real damage, but the relative damage to Iran will be 100 fold.
I liken the Muzzie aggressors to Lord Raglan (of Carge of the Light Brigade game) in their decisions to attack Israel. 🇮🇱
Israel’s objective is to ensure peace for at least the next 40 years, and for that to happen Iran needs to be taken out of the equation.
I would have thought that the Iranians knew that Israel could fly over their nation with impunity, and that their Shah-era F-14s and Skyhawks would be taken out of the sky by even a modern F-16. But I guess that they haven’t been smashing their foreheads into the ground hard enough to please Allah
