Iranian authorities have arrested a female singer who performed a virtual concert on YouTube, a lawyer said. Milad Panahipour, an Iranian lawyer, said Parastoo Ahmady was arrested in Sari City, capital of the northern province of Mazandaran, on Saturday.
On Thursday, the judiciary had filed a case regarding 27-year-old Ahmady’s concert performance, in which she performed wearing a long black sleeveless and collarless dress, but no hijab. She was accompanied by four male musicians, AP reported.
Ahmady had posted her concert on YouTube the day before, saying: “I am Parastoo, a girl who wants to sing for the people I love. This is a right I could not ignore; singing for the land I love passionately.”
The online concert has been viewed more than 1.4 million times.
Panahipour told The Associated Press: “Unfortunately, we do not know the charges against Ms. Ahmady, who arrested her, or her place of detention, but we will follow up on the matter through legal authorities.”
He also said two musicians in Ahmady’s band — Soheil Faghih Nasiri and Ehsan Beiraghdar — were arrested in Tehran on Saturday.
Following the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, women were banned at first from singing altogether, then from singing or dancing solo before mixed-gender audiences. Female vocalists could perform for male audiences only as a part of a chorus. But they are allowed to sing in a hall for female-only audiences, as per AP reported.
Also based on Iranian and Islamic law, women are not allowed to appear without a hijab in front of men who are not related….

Yes. Women are to be covered or be harmed by Muslims. Allah in Quran 33:59 says,“O you prophet, say to your wives and to your daughters and the women of the believers, let down their large outer covering over them[completely over the body], that in this way they will be known[as Muslims], so they will not be harmed. Actually, the Pahlavis were the best rulers that Iran had ever since its conquest by the Arabs. Ironically, or maybe coincidentally, they were also the first ethnically Iranic dynasty that Iran had in that period. Prior to that, every dynasty that ruled Iran – from the Ghaznavids to the Qajars – were Turkic, either from Turkistan (Seljuqs, Qhwarezmids, Timurides, Afsharids…) or Azerbaijan (Safavids) or Turkey (aq Qoyunlu), and Iran was always a battlefield of the different empires vying for power
Under the Pahlevis, while Iran was a shia muslim country on paper, it was in fact a secular country, as evident from any photos taken b/w 1925-1979. Yeah, the Shahs did rule w/ an iron fist, but it’s worth factoring in events around them, like being occupied by the Brits during WWII, then both the Soviets and Americans vying for them during the Cold War. During that time, in that neighborhood, there was no way Iran could have been a full democracy & survived

In addition to that oppressive Islamic regime of Iran forcing the girls and woman to wear hot hijab ,which is a symbol of the horrible misogyny of Islam , it also should be known that there’s no room for festive activities , music, dancing, happiness fun or humor in Islam.
For example , Ayatollah Khomeini had declared “The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam . There can be no…joy in whatever is serious.” [1]

Last week I was in Malaysia where I lived 12 years ago and I seen two wee girls aged around 4-5 years old totally covered from head to toe with their face and hands visible only, even socks on their sandal feet, so if females are to cover themselves for their modesty then what modesty does a wee girl have at that age, does she need to cover up so her Father-Brother-Cousin or next door neighbor doesn’t get too excited when he sees her in a child’s Summer Dress.
Meanwhile western feminists are still having a ”Wear a Hijab Day”… Go figure…

I did a little experiment while playing the YouTube video of Parastoo Ahmady for some friends who had never seen it.

After watching the video, I asked them for their opinion, and they all agreed that Parastoo Ahmady and her band were immensely talented.
Then I told them that Iranian Parastoo Ahmady had been arrested by Iranian authorities for not wearing a hijab during her performance.
They were speechless…
