And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only what is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment except to their own husbands or fathers or husbands’ fathers, or their sons or their husbands’ sons, or their brothers or their brothers’ sons or sisters’ sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack desire, or children who know nothing of women’s nakedness. And do not let them stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn to Allah together, O believers, so that you may succeed. (Quran 24:31)
If a woman does not cover, she is fair game to be assaulted:
O prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their veils close around them. That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not molested. Allah is always forgiving, merciful. (Quran 33:59)

When Islam begins to call for dress criteria for men I will rise my head up and listen to it. But everything is about Enemy Number One or The Women. The irony of it all is that the hijab is everywhere in the West (and increasingly so) even though it is not required by law.
The pandemic seems long ago but a curious phenomenon I have noticed recently is pairs of hijabis walking around in the open wearing blue Covid masks the effect of which is a “stealth niqab”.
I can sense that a lot of these women would feel naked going out in public without being “covered” because that’s all they have ever known. Maybe, but it means that their tax-funded religious freedom is always on show.

Here is a story from WWII in Libya. A Black American soldier deserted, and to survive he took the clothing from a dead Muslim and joined a group of Muslims sitting around a fire, expecting he would fit right in. They shared a meal. Soon a detail of American MP’s surrounded them and demanded to know if an American was among them. Everyone denied it. Suddenly they snatched the American and arrested him.
