For the fifth time within a week, Yemen-based Houthi jihadists attacked Israel with drones and launched a missile strike that was intercepted. “Yemen Houthi rebel group attacks Israel fifth time in one week as regional tensions escalate,” by Ari David Blaff, National Post, December 25, 2024:
The Yemen-based Houthi rebel group claimed responsibility for a drone attack that struck the Israeli community of Ashkelon on Wednesday evening, the fifth such attack on the Jewish state in the last week.
A statement released by the group claimed that another drone was aimed at a “vital and sensitive target” in Tel Aviv, but there were no reports in Israeli media of it landing in the city….
On Tuesday, Israel intercepted a missile fired from the group. The strike came shortly after Defense Minister Israel Katz reaffirmed Israel’s goal to degrade the Houthis’ military capabilities and even begin targeting the militia’s leadership.

Less than a day later, “at least six people were killed” as “Israel struck multiple targets” in Yemen, “including Sanaa International Airport.”
The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that he was about to board a flight at Sanaa International Airport when the Israeli strike occurred. The UN has called for deescalation, as it usually does whenever Israel defends itself.
The Houthis are now taking advantage of the near-miss of Ghebreyesus, saying that “Israel targeted Sanaa Airport while WHO chief, UN officials were boarding” their flight. Houthi Foreign Minister Jamal Amer deceitfully portrayed “the timing of the Israeli airstrike on the airport” as “targeting and disregarding the UN.”
Defense Minister Israel Katz had already announced on Tuesday Israel’s goal to cripple the Houthis’ military capabilities, saying:
Just as we took care of Sinwar in Gaza, Haniyeh in Tehran and Nasrallah in Beirut, we will deal with the heads of the Houthis in Sana’a or anywhere in Yemen.”
“Military infrastructure at the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Kanatib on Yemen’s west coast” were also struck in the Israeli retaliation. But the Houthis talked big, promising to “meet escalation with escalation,” when in reality, it is the Houthis who are the aggressors, and who are escalating the conflict. Despite the bravado, the Houthis have been frantically preparing for Israeli retaliation. Houthi intelligence has even called upon Yemeni “residents of certain areas, asking them to avoid discussing the results of Israeli and American strikes on the phone or on social media,” but only to check “on the status of their relatives without going into detail on the strikes to avoid ‘tipping off the enemy.’”
Let’s hope Israel brings Houthi aggressive capabilities to a swift end.
Israel has faced an exhausting multi-front war with powerful regional jihadi actors, and globalist countries and anti-Israel organizations such as the UN routinely beat down the tiny nation. Meanwhile, according to the Associated Press, social media users are wrongly claiming that Yemen’s internationally recognized government “has become the first regional power to officially enter the latest Israel-Hamas war,” but that is not the case. It is the rebel Houthis who are launching missiles and drones against Israel.
