Last year, as the world focused on Gaza, the opportunist president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed attacks on Syrian Kurds. Now Turkey sees another opportunity. According to the Jerusalem Post article below, the Syrian National Army – SNA is a “former Syrian rebel group that is now backed by Turkey.” It attacked Kurds, committing grave abuses: “On Sunday, videos showed SNA militias attacking Kurds, invading a hospital, and also abusing Kurdish women. These videos look like the Hamas videos of October 7 because the militias backed by Ankara have similarities to Hamas and other extremist groups.”
So where are the United Nations and other international organization which are obsessed with Israel?
Turkey will continue to exploit the jihadi attack on Aleppo — an attack that Erdogan may well have been behind.
The UN targets the Jewish state while ignoring Islamic jihadist abuse globally, thus proving its antisemitism.
“Turkey-backed militias target Kurds amid Syrian regime’s collapse – analysis,” by Seth J. Frantzman, Jerusalem Post, December 2, 2024:
Turkish-backed militias in northern Syria have been unleashed by Ankara to attack Kurds in northern Syria amid the increased fighting in the country.
Over the weekend, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an independent opposition group that controls Idlib province in Syria, launched an offensive against the Syrian regime, which fled Aleppo, leading to major HTS gains on Friday and Saturday.
However, northern Syria is also a divided landscape – as the Syrian regime forces fled Aleppo, they left a vacuum of control. As a result of the 13 years of civil war, there are other factions in northern Syria besides HTS and the regime; one of them is the Syrian National Army – SNA – a former Syrian rebel group that is now backed by Turkey.
These groups operate like armed militias and many of them are accused of various human rights abuses. Turkey uses them primarily to control areas that it has invaded in northern Syria, such as Afrin, Sere Kaniyeh, and areas near Kilis and Manbij. In the past, the SNA was used by Turkey to attack Kurds. For instance, in 2018, Turkey invaded Afrin and the SNA ethnically cleansed more than 150,000 Kurds….
On Sunday, videos showed SNA militias attacking Kurds, invading a hospital, and also abusing Kurdish women. These videos look like the Hamas videos of October 7 because the militias backed by Ankara have similarities to Hamas and other extremist groups. They spend most of their time attacking civilians and looting. The US has accused some of these groups of numerous abuses, including abducting women and killing people….

Turkey is quietly emerging as the dominant military power in the region. They are the most powerful military in NATO, if one takes out the US. In their neighborhood, Russia has been heavily eroded in the war in Ukraine, and there were even Russian troops fleeing alongside Syrian troops from Aleppo and Hama. So it’s not like Russia is a counterblast to Turkey in the region. Syria is very much weakened, and Iraq is not very powerful either. Iran just lost its air force although there were reports of an air face-off b/w Turkey and Iran, w/ Turkish jets escorting an Iranian plane out of Turkish airspace. Among Turkey’s other neighbors, Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Armenia and Georgia aren’t very strong either
If the Assad regime falls to HTS, then Turkey would essentially gain a de-facto border w/ Israel. It will be fascinating to see if Turkey attacks Israel, Israel counter-attacks and then Article 5 of NATO is then invoked by anti-Semitic NATO members like France and UK to declare war on Israel

Totally concur with your analysis.
Pashinyan is caving to Azeris. Turks are still squatting in the invaded territory of Cyprus, and a lot of Greeks have forgotten their history under the Ottonan boot.
Anything Erdogan is into is solely for his own advancement to being head of a new caliphate.

Erdogen has the temerity to call Israel an abuser of human rights and a terrorist state. His actions against the Kurds are far worse than the nazis perpetrated on countries they occupied in WW2. He should be held accountable and someone should go to the ICC and declare him a war criminal. Does not the US or Israel still have friends who subscribe to the ICC?
