Chicago: Muslim who shot Jewish man while screaming ‘Allahu akbar’ found dead in his jail cell

“Officials said his death appeared to be suicide by hanging.”

That may be, but it raises a great many questions. Sidi Mohamed Abdullahi appears to have been an Islamic jihadi, but Islamic jihadis don’t often kill themselves. The Qur’an says: “O you who believe, do not squander your wealth among yourselves in vanity, except in a trade by mutual consent, and do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allah is always merciful to you.” (4:29) Suicide attacks, also known as “martyrdom operations,” are not generally considered to be suicide, as the intention is not to end one’s own life, but to kill unbelievers. If one is killed in the process, he will receive Allah’s reward: “Indeed, Allah has bought from the believers their lives and their wealth, because the garden will be theirs, they will fight in the way of Allah and will kill and be killed.” (9:111)

So if Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi really killed himself, it may indicate that he had lost faith in Allah and his promises of rewards for fighting in his cause. Or maybe, despite his targeting of what Islam regards as the worst enemies of the Muslims (cf. Qur’an 5:82) and his scream of “Allahu akbar,” he was not a convinced or knowledgeable jihadi at all. In any case, it’s unlikely we will ever know the full story, because authorities in Chicago, as elsewhere, don’t even know what to look for as they investigate what happened, and are bound as a matter of policy to willful ignorance regarding Islam and jihad.

CHICAGO — Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, the man accused of targeting a Jewish man, Chicago Police Officers, and paramedics during a shooting spree in West Rogers Park five weeks ago, was found dead at the Cook County jail on Saturday. Officials said his death appeared to be suicide by hanging.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday, but the results are still pending, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office….

Sheriff’s office personnel conducting routine security checks at Cermak “found Abdallah unresponsive due to an apparent suicide attempt by hanging in his cell” around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the spokesperson said. “Staff immediately initiated life-saving measures and Abdallah was transported by a Chicago Fire Department ambulance to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.”

The spokesperson said there was “no evidence of foul play at this time.”

In announcing charges, prosecutors said Abdallah’s phone data showed he spent days selecting targets, including a synagogue not far from where he shot a 39-year-old Jewish man who was walking to synagogue. After shooting the man in the 2600 block of West Farwell, Abdallahi allegedly got into his car and drove a short distance, only to return to the area about 20 minutes later and start shooting at police and paramedics….

Prosecutors did not initially charge him with a hate crime, but those counts were added within days after detectives cracked his phone and allegedly found its history included searches for gun stores, firing ranges, synagogues, and Jewish community centers in the days leading up to the shooting….

Officials said Abdallahi, from the West African country of Mauritania, crossed paths with U.S. Border Patrol agents in San Ysidro, California, in March 2023.

The sheriff’s office spokesperson said that the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force has been asked to conduct an independent investigation of his death.

    • James, the only chance of that not being true is if the autopsy finds that his hanging was assisted by another or others. Then, the phobia shouting and the suits…(chicago cair)…begin.

  7. Why are there Arabs from a west African country? I thought Arabs came from the Arabian peninsula which is fairly east of west Africa.

    • There are large Lebanese diaspora communities in Senegal and Ghana, so I’ve heard.

      • But also many Muslims in Africa just refer to themselves Arab. Note that
        Omar al-Bashir of Sudan calls himself Arab–even though most would consider him to be sub-saharan African. Orthodox Muslims despise Black people.

    • Actually, the western most Arab country is Mauritania, which is in West Africa. Other countries in the neighborhood, such as Mali, Senagal, Gambia, et al are muslim, but not Arab. But since the bulk of Saharan countries are muslim, it shouldn’t be surprising that there are Arabs there, even beyond countries like Morocco or Mauritania

    Interesting that the qu’ran states that allah is lucifer in the description of allah is the exact same description of the Old Testament’s lucifer.

  12. Even among the violators of social norms jihadi s can find disfavor. Just allows one to breathe a little easier knowing that all is far from lost as the ‘religion of peace’ is not universally accepted. In the end it will dissipate of its internal rottenness but till then many innocents will suffer as sacrificial lambs.
