The Taliban are expanding the Qur’anic command for women to be fully covered, only leaving exposed their eyes, and to avoid stamping their feet to reveal any adornment under their coverings:
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be modest, and to display of their adornment only what is apparent, and to draw their veils over their bosoms, and not to reveal their adornment except to their own husbands or fathers or husbands’ fathers, or their sons or their husbands’ sons, or their brothers or their brothers’ sons or sisters’ sons, or their women, or their slaves, or male attendants who lack desire, or children who know nothing of women’s nakedness. And do not let them stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And turn to Allah together, O believers, so that you may succeed. (Quran 24:31)
O prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their veils close around them. That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not molested. Allah is always forgiving, merciful. (Quran 33:59)
The Taliban have now added a ban on the sound of women’s voices in public, thus fully reducing their presence to a mere shadow.

I remember being in a restaurant in Kabul in 2002 and one would only see men because all the ladies had to eat and drink in an area that had a curtain surrounding the whole area where they sat. A father or husband was not to eat with his wife or daughter in public. I asked one of the local ladies at the Embassy how she and her female friends felt about this and her reply was so heart drenching. This lady said she could not wait to go to work every morning just to be permitted to feel like a human being.
With very few exceptions, the first thing that most of the local females would do was to remove their burka and once in the building, most would remove the outer covering as they were wearing a dress or skirt/blouse beneath. I just do not believe that most western women, much less men, can empathize with these poor females.

The women who are not already insane, will go there because they will have no one to talk to who may understand how they feel, what they think. Or care to know and understand.
People need people to communicate with them on the same level or they become emotionally and mentally ill; and both can lead to physical illness.
Isolation is a severe form of punishment for criminals. For those who have committed no crime, it is evil cruelty.

Solitary confinement is mentally damaging. They live in isolation. Listen to the Vietnam POWs describe what that was like. You will get some idea of what it is really like.

Yes, HP. Your comment causes me to think of serial killers. They don’t just kill on sight. They find ways to torment and torture their victims. When the victim dies, that’s it.
So they must find another victim and begin again. It’s the power they wield over others that gives them an evil thrill.
The taliban enjoy, like serial killers, inflicting pain, mental and physical. They keep coming up with more and more that women are not allowed to do. Once the thrill of keeping them from speaking to each other wears off, they’ll dream up some other torture.

If one goes back 100 or so years when the British invaded Afghanistan and look up that old data, you will find that Afghanistan was 1/3 christian, 1/3 Buddhist and Hindu and 1/3 Moslem plus Persian Jews there.
Moslems were a minority of a third. Under British rule most became Moslem. How and why I do not know. Malaysia was the exact same percentages and changes.
What the hell did the British do that made everyone Moslem? Now the British are making Britain itself Moslem. Sum ting wery Wong with British rulers.

100 years? That would be in the 1900s, and no, Afghanistan was completely Muslim. In fact, it was islamized in the 10th century, under Mahmoud of Ghazni (although now, w/ Jay Smith’s analysis about islam, it’s an open question about when and how quickly did Afghanistan islamize)
The main thing the Brits did wrong when they came was to sabotage the de-islamization of the subcontinent that was happening under the Marathas in most of India, and under the Sikhs in Punjab. The latter pushed back the Afghans to behind the Hindu Kush, and even captured some completely islamized cities, such as Peshawar
Actually, if one contrasts the Brits w/ the Russians, one will see how the latter shines. Russia, in response to frontier raids on their citizens, invaded Turkistan and toppled the Emirates of Buqhara and Xeva, and annexed them to their empire. They cracked down on the local population, and pretty much ended Turkistan’s role as a historic center of jihad that it had been since the 13th century. Today, those -stans are perfectly normal countries that foreigners can visit w/o being endangered, unlike Afghanistan and Pakistan just below them

I disagree. Islamicized 1/3, not all. Remember the Buddhist head monuments in our time the Taliban blew up ? Each history writer gives their own thing. I once interviewed an old rabbi from Kabul. He verified what I had read. In fact, the pushtans, the Taliban are one segment or piece of east manasseh.and pieces of other Hebrew tribes. East Manasseh was also Israels most warlike tribe. Every year at jallalabad,for one day millions of crazy moslems gather and fast for that day. It’s Yom kippur. Sort of like moshe Cohen from n.y. that joins Isis, moves to Syria, chops heads and eats gefilta fish and says he’s Jewish. Ancestry yes, but present reality no.

*This would apply to movement. Don’t “shake it baby” as it could make the curvy parts jiggle under the fabric. And you know how people become obsessed with what is roped off from them. The men will be overcome with desire, and you’ll get what you deserve. Friends teaching and taking middle eastern dance in my locale said in those countries, no respectable woman would dance in public even as a performance. It’s a private thing. Women who do dance performances in restaurants sometimes meet and marry Muslim men, if they are single, through performing publicly. After marriage, no more dancing/ teaching dance/performance. That would be a shameful thing for a man to let his wife dance in public, for other men to see.
So women are controlled in W-5. Everything. In the ways they can move, in their voices, in their ability to COMMUNICATE in any way, except in the compound, with relatives or eunuchs. Dat’s it. They should be illiterate too, so they can’t communicate in writing, or read anything.
Taliban banned female education after a short “honeymoon” with Western journalists where they SAID they’d respect women’s rights. Yes? All lies, and Afghan women knew it. The press lapped it up like the Koolaid it was. As usual. The softer gentler Taliban. I just wanted to shake those dupes who repeated the nonsense for the cameras. I think they really believed it. Taliban was good at doing press. Propaganda 101 was well-mastered.
The women effectively erased as human beings, and as individuals. Even in lesser status to their own male children. Total dependance on the men they know. How could any of them ever hope to escape? No hope. None. If only some of these protestors for Islamic Jihad in the guise of “Free Palestine” could be transported for a few days and actually endure firsthand the enslavement at the hands of men, in an Islamic country like Afghanistan. They’d have a rude, rapid awakening.

There is nothing new about the Taliban–this is orthodox Islam.
The vicious “Prophet” Muhammed himself didn’t want his wives to speak with each other–he didn’t want them comparing notes. Islam hasd always isolated and brutalized women.
Why woud any of us want to join this savage and oppressive creed? Most people here are civilized.
