As noxious as it is, if the Assad regime falls, there will be ethnic cleansing of the remaining Christians in Syria, as there was in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein.
“Syrian Islamist rebels re-enter Aleppo in apparent collapse of regime defenses,” JNS, November 29, 2024:
Syrian Islamist rebels appear to have made stunning territorial advances against the forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad on Friday, re-entering the city of Aleppo for the first time in eight years amid the apparent collapse of government defenses in the area.
Unconfirmed videos on social media suggest that rebel fighters from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other groups captured parts of western Aleppo, which was Syria’s most populous city prior to the country’s ongoing civil war, which broke out in 2011.
Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) emerged as an al-Qaeda splinter faction, although it now rejects affiliation with the terror group. The United States designated HTS as a foreign terrorist organization in 2018.
The offensive marks the rebels’ most significant advance, following years of stalemate in northwest Syria, with Turkish-backed rebels and HTS holding a narrow strip of territory around the provinces of Idlib and Afrin.
Turkey and Russia signed a ceasefire in 2020 after agreeing to turn Idlib into a “de-escalation zone” in 2018….

Only one not easy but only way out of this mess, which is make more mess to obtain the solution. Kurdistan out if north Iraq & eastern Syria must emerge independent. .Kurdish oil can fund their nation to be a success.
Syria is like Jordan a fake nation.Syria is not Assyria. Kurdistan is the area of Assyria. The Damascus region is ancient Aram. Aram is Hebrew kinfolk to Israelis. It’s in the bible.
Israel must liberate Lebanon. The shites and unfriendly sunnis must be pushed out into what’s called Syria today. Syrian christians and Druse must flee into Lebanon. Lebanon rebuilt as a christian nation with Druse & sunnis with equal rights. Assads alawitess can have a small coastal nation between Lebanon and turkey. Turks must be kept out. The area of Syria left from Damascus to Aleppo will be new Syria sunnis nation. The shites there will need deported somewhere, but don’t know where to put them as not Iran whose people don’t need more nut jobs. The sunnis also in Syria need de radicalized. But it is a victory to create christian Lebanon and free kurdistan as a start

Syria w/ its current borders is a fake nation, but under Arab rule, Syria was essentially synonymous w/ the Levant: it was everything west of the Euphrates, east of the Mediterranean, south of Anatolia and north of Arabia. Everything from Antioch to Suez, and from Basra to Raqqa. Based on everything we’ve learned about the historicity of Muhammad, chances are that the Arab invasions of the 7th century actually started not in Medina nor Petra but in Damascus, and the people there were Monophysite Christians
Also, Turkey will never tolerate an independent Kurdistan, whether it’s within their own borders or outside. After the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq, Turkey made it a point to send troops in to prevent an independent Kurdistan from materializing, and they’ve also been at war w/ the Syrian Kurds. Turkey is in fact the most destabilizing force in the region, ahead of even Iran. They have neo-Ottoman ambitions, including a desire to regain the leadership of islam
No, as Robert noted above, the Assad regime is the best hope for Christians, Druze and other non-sunni minorities in Syria. We’ve seen what happened when Saddam and Gaddafi were toppled. It’s best not to do anything to topple the Assads, even though one might hate their links w/ Iran and Hizbullah

Yes, indeed! “Turkey is in fact the most destabilizing force in the region, ahead of even Iran. They have neo-Ottoman ambitions, including a desire to regain the leadership of Islam”..
Toppling Assad would be yet another huge geopolitical failed policy that’ll prove disastrous for Christians and the West’s own interests in the Middle East. Sultan Erdogan’s Turkey is a NATO member in name only and its loud support of Israel’s demise by hosting, funding and promoting Hamas (and Muslim Bros) terrorists and giving them Turkish passports & generous funding should be seen within the context of their destabilizing neo-Ottoman expansionist goals in the East Med/Middle East.

Unlike in 2015, this time the Syrians can’t get Russian troops to bail out their regime, since the latter has been soaking up Syrian fighters, among others, to fight in Ukraine. But what Assad should do is pull in all Hizbullah fighters from South Lebanon and the Beka’a valley, and send them to fight HTS & any other sunni groups wanting to topple their regime. This time, they should also keep the Hizbullah fighters in Syria after they are done, and not send them back to Lebanon
During the Syrian Civil War, Israel took a neutral stance, and did nothing to support either side, except to ensure that Iran didn’t get to set up any bases in Syria. They should continue that policy, and hope that there is either a deadlock in that fighting, or that the Assad regime prevails. We should just avoid judging that regime by our standards, since we saw how well our attempts to bring democracy to Iraq and Afghanistan worked out. Let Assad have enough control on his country to keep the sunni jihadists in check, but not too powerful that he gets to route Hizbullah b/w Lebanon and Iran
If Hizbullah fighters are willing to go to Syria to fight HTS, that should be the one scenario where Israel does not destroy them

Agree with Robert Spencer’s assessment:
“As noxious as it is, if the Assad regime falls, there will be ethnic cleansing of the remaining Christians in Syria, as there was in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein”.
What does it take for the U.S. State Dept. bureaucrats to stop crafting failed myopic geopolitical policies and repeats of the Iraq and Libya disasters–where Islamists are now selling in Tripoli bazaars 6-year-old girls to Imams and human traffickers from Turkey?
Assad had, and still has somehow, an autocratic but secular, non-Islamist government with Christians & minorities as well as women on his cabinet! Christians were and are protected as Jewish, Druzes and other minorities and Kurds hold the fort, or used to before U.S. allowed their massacre under Obama and now under Biden, in Aleppo!.
The only solution is to leave the Assad government alone, and destroy Hamas “leaders” & Muslim Bros. terrorist headquarters in Turkey. Lt.Col. Tulsi Gabbard had the guts to visit Syria herself, with condemnation from Obama, and find out the truth about Syria from its own people. Syria’s enemies were the Islamofascist Turkish-supported ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Tahr al-Sham. And not Israel or the U.S.
You can’t make deals with the devils and expect the war to promote their demise and win! Israel should not make any deals with attacking Turkish terrorists who now occupy Aleppo which was liberated by the brave Kurds and is an ancient civilized city (protected by the Antiquities & Museums Law) now in the hands of Islamists! Nothing to cheer about for those who wanted this to happen! They made Iran & Turkey happier.
Everyone knows the solution which is to create, at last, a Home for the 60 million Kurds who are the biggest ethnic minority without a Home! And Iran, Syria Iraq and Turkey will have to accept this. Iraq and Syria are contemplating this will happen.
But the islamofascists in Iran and Turkey have as their ultimate goal the destruction of Israel and the Kurds and the new President will have to make some tough choices to save the Jews and remaining Christians of the Middle East who are being slaughtered systematically by Islamist proxies of Iran and Turkey.. And not to expand the reach of ISIS as they have just accomplished in Aleppo! Shame.
