Liz Cheney Pleads With George W. Bush to Take the Uniparty Plunge and Endorse Kamala

Dick Cheney did it. Arnold Schwarzenegger did it. Adam Kinzinger did it, of course. So did Jeff Flake. Mike Pence walked right up to the edge but ultimately declined to take the plunge, but even George W. Bush’s daughter, Barbara Pierce Bush, and Dick Cheney’s notorious daughter Liz (that is, former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Jan. 6) jumped right in. And now Liz Cheney is calling upon the biggest prize of all, former President George W. Bush, to join the party for the uniparty and endorse Kamala Harris for president.

Fox News reported late Friday night that Liz made her plea on The New Yorker Radio Hour, which was an appropriate forum for an establishment mouthpiece to issue a call to a former president to affirm his commitment to that establishment. After all, the New Yorker is a pillar of the political and media elite class that finds Donald Trump so intensely threatening.

Cheney expressed puzzlement over why Bush hadn’t already come out for Kamala. “I can’t explain why George W. Bush hasn’t spoken out,” she said, “but I think it’s time, and I wish that he would.” Fox notes, however, that “the former president and his wife, Laura, have said they have no plans to endorse a presidential candidate.” Yet even that was a semi-endorsement of Harris, as it was conspicuous in the extreme that the eighteenth Republican president in American history was refusing to endorse the nineteenth in the latter’s bid for reelection.

Remember also that Bush was steadfastly silent during the eight years of the Obama administration, fastidiously declining to criticize his successor. When Trump became president, however, suddenly Bush decided that it was just fine for a former president to criticize the man who currently occupied the Oval Office.

Whether or not Bush heeds Cheney’s call, the defections have not all been on one side. While a significant group of high-profile Republicans have endorsed Harris and the Democrats endorsing Trump are fewer in number, nothing can match the spectacle of a scion of Democrat royalty, a son of Robert F. Kennedy himself and the bearer of his very name, endorsing Donald Trump. Then there is Elon Musk, who just a few years ago called Trump a “dumb**s,” and a former candidate for the Democrat nomination for president, Tulsi Gabbard.

This is not just a matter of a few switches on both sides. We are in the midst of a political realignment unlike anything we have seen since the 1850s (which, incidentally, was the run-up to the Civil War). For roughly thirty years until that tumultuous decade, America had two major parties, the Democrats and the Whigs. Gradually, however, the slavery issue became so heated that the old political alignments were no longer relevant.

  2. Yeah, the Dems can have Bush. I doubt that there are any “Republicans” left who’ll accompany him who haven’t already defected, whether it’s the Cheneys, Anna Navarros, Bush’s own daughter Barbara (neither of the Bush daughters supported the GOP when their dad was in the White House, but they’re now happy to shed their “apolitical” subterffuge), et al. The Dems can have them, as well as Romney, Joe Scarborough, Bill Krystal, Jonah Goldberg and anyone else

    I’m sure a lot of them are rationalizing this b’cos of what Trump did on January 6th. Yet all these clowns were happy to fight the Gore-Lieberman side during the Florida recounts in 2000. In that election, nobody had any complaints of voting irregularities on either side: they were just miffed that it was so close that it risked denying one of them the White House. That was very different from 2020, when the GOP this time had more legitimate complaints about election irregularities in not one, but four states

    I also hope every Republican who thinks that islam is a good, peaceful religion accompanies the Bushes & Cheneys out of the GOP

    You are so far off base, Islam is evil within the Islamic world and outside of the Islamic world. Islam means submission, there is no peace in submission to Islam. I suggest you read Reliance of the Traveller: Islamic Sacred Law aka sharia law. If as you claim Islam is peaceful why do they treat the women so badly, subject them genital mutilation, to cover from head to toes, now currently women cannot speak to each other.

    Islam is purely evil and the terrorist you claim represent evil and war are simply following the words of sharia law as per the books of Islam.

    • Ahem, please read a tad bit closer. That quote came from the 43rd president of the USA, one George W. Bush, as he lectured us – right there in the pulpit area of the Islamic Center of Washington, D.C. – on September 20, 2011, surrounded by a whole bunch of Muslims, including their “scholars,” who were delighted that Bush was so willing to lie on their behalf.

        • No need to apologise. If you look “a tad closer” you won’t see any quotation marks or indentation or italics to let you know it’s a quotation. As presented, it looks like a non sequitur and doesn’t make sense.

  8. I remember when GWB first showed up on the scene. I thought I liked him because he was sort of a Texan and seemed OK. Then 9/11 came along and that was that. I thought he was a Republican but finally realized that he was nothing but a FOS globalist twat, no different than Obama or Clintons, etc. He can endorse his own ass for all I care.

  13. He refused to endorse Mr. Trump. b clinton says it’s ok if he doesn’t endorse the hyena. If he doesn’t want Mr. Trump, then he might also say he won’t endorse the heyena if he doesn’t want her. So….

    I lived in TX when he was the governor. It seems he left his brains and good sense behind when he moved to Washington. His ego and self-importance grew afterward.

    And if he did say the hyena was his choice, he also has said some other stupid stuff.
