A new Supreme Leader at this time of high tension could lead to ‘widespread public protests,” as the story below notes, or even the toppling of the Islamic regime, which likely will soon not be able to count on Old Joe Biden and his henchmen to prop it up with another few billion dollars.
“Iran Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a coma? Everything about succession plans amid clashes with Israel,” Mint, November 17, 2024:
…According to reports, Tehran secretly picked its successor in late September — with the ailing Ayatollah Ali Khamenei possibly abdicating before his death. An Iran International report suggests that his son Mojtaba Khamenei will assume the top role while his father is alive.
60 members of the Iranian Assembly of Experts reportedly met in secrecy on September 26 in acquiescence to a demand by Khamenei. They were ordered to take a decision on the succession immediately and with utmost confidentiality. The candidate and procedure were both met with resistance and reports suggest that Khamenei and his representatives also issued direct threats. The need for secrecy was also fuelled by the possiblity of widespread public protests.
A New York Times report on October 27 also backed the assertion — claiming that Khamenei was suffering from a major medical condition and reiterating claims that his son Mojtaba would become the successor….

So much for the “Islamic Revolution” in Iran abolishing monarchy! But once the elder Khamene’i dies then the Hunger Games are likely to ensue. Let us hope the regime cannibalizes itself.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a given that the Pahlavis will return to power. Also, Reza Pahlavi is still a muslim, so if one accepts that a majority of Iranians are now non-muslim, then it would be inappropriate for the leaders of a new establishment to be muslim

This is great news. I suspect it could be more than that, and that he could be dead. In which case, it would be hard for a new ayatollah to have the sort of control over the country that he had
I do have one concern if the Iran regime falls – threats from Turkey and Azerbaijan. As we have seen, both countries have lobbed off the southern part of Armenia to be contiguous. As a part of Turkey’s revanchist ambitions, I would expect them to try and conquer Iran, and add it to their Turkic empire. Remember that every muslim dynasty that ever ruled Iran – from the Ghaznavids in 1000 AD to the Qajars in the 19th century – were Turkic dynasties: the Pahlavis were the first Iranic dynasty to rule Iran since its Islamization. On top of that, Turkey has a tendency of invading Kurdish territory outside Turkey, like they did in Iraq & Syria, so that’s likely to be their official casus belli for going into Iran, even though its scope may be far greater
If the islamic republican regime falls, the US should make it clear to Erdogan that any interference in Iran will not be tolerated. If necessary, make Turkey’s hostility w/ Israel a pretext for doing that

This didn’t happen in 1989–no particuar reason to supose it will happen now, for good or ill.

The death of this sorry excuse for a human being couldn’t come at a more propitious moment in the history of freedom loving people throughout the world. Hopefully, Trump can hammer the final nail in the Islamic State’s coffin.

It would be better if the regime imploded from within. The last time, what saved it from falling during Obama’s time was Hizbullah sending fighters to Iran to help quell the rebellion

Most of the photographs of him I have seen, he has this DEMONIC smile
on his face that makes me feel sick of the thought that this monster & his

May he rot in HELL for ever.

Absolutely agree. They are all rock spiders.

It seems ailing leaders, in power beyond their capabilities, create instabilities whose result is unknown.
Another ailing leader just opened the door to WW3 with the decision to allow Ukraine to fire US missiles into Russia – which means US intelligence will supply the targeting data and US technicians will prepare the missiles. Putin warned that Russia would respond to any nation who assisted missiles into Russia proper.
The new game of nuclear chicken is beginning.

One thing about Iran, 50,000 out of 75,000 mosques have closed as many Iranians abandon Islam.
My question is : Are Muslim numbers in Iran above 50%?
If not the whole Islamic government should dissolve, they are a minority in this case.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
No. There was a survey in Iran 4 years ago, if not earlier, that showed that only 40% of Iranians follow islam – of any denomination
https://jihadwatch.org/2020/09/new-survey-only-40-of-iranians-identify-as-muslim-72-disagree-with-mandatory-hijab-wearing
That was in 2020. I’m sure that since then, that percentage has gone down, not up, given all the turmoil Iran has been going through
JimJFox says
Your source for the number of mosques closed?
gravenimage says
This is one source:
https://allarab.news/50000-mosques-have-closed-in-iran-are-iranians-seek-truth-outside-of-islam/
But I have also seen Muslims deny this. I am not sure of the truth of the situation–but certainly some Iranians appear to be leaving Islam, despite the danger of doing so. Probably others are just going through the motions to protect their safety. Might be difficult to get solid numbers, though.

Methinks this is the problem of Schrödinger’s Ayatollah! Can the Ayatollah be simultaneously dead and alive?
࿗Infidel࿘ says
Yeah Dead in reality, while the regime still declares that he’s alive
WPM says
They could just put another white bearded manic Ayatollah in charge. What is this the third or four Ayatollah change up this non-sense took over Iran in 1978? This has ben going on for over 46 years , if their money and support from the outside world totaled dry up it would end. If it collapse their non-Shite neighbors would crave the country up between them. Moslems using their recourses, energy , people money fighting each other. There is never peace in Islam ,it like crabs in a bucket .
