Khymani James is an addlepated antisemite and sometime Columbia undergraduate who proudly posed a film of himself calling for the mass murder of “Zionist Jews” and telling Jews that they should be grateful that he hasn’t yet been able to take part himself. As a consequence, he has been suspended from the university. He insists that a great wrong has been done to him — that as an African-American he has been discriminated against. He apparently wants us to believe that a white student who made the same calls for killing Jews would go unpunished by Columbia. And so he is now suing the university for reinstatement and no doubt, for as much money this grasping grifter is able to extort. Columbia University is being sued for discrimination by a student it suspended for filming himself proclaim that Zionists should be murdered and are fortunate that he has not begun killing them himself.
The student, Khymani James, has alleged that the suspension — prompted by the incident and other misconduct charges Columbia filed against him for participating in an illegal pro-Hamas encampment — was racist and aimed at “privileging a subset of Jewish people.”
At the time, James’ denigration of Jews received national media coverage and reinforced a perception that anti-Zionist protesters at Columbia University have been motivated by antisemitism. His lawyers said that negative publicity and racial animus, rather than any clear violation of school rules, caused administrators to levy the suspension, noting that it came nearly five months after the precipitating incident.
The five-month wait to suspend Khymani James after his unambiguous endorsement of mass murder testified to the pusillanimity of Columbia administrators, who only managed to do the right thing once disaffected donors, furious alumni, and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce investigating antisemitism on American campuses all made their fury known. What his lawyers call “negative publicity” was simply the truthful reporting of what he did. And there was no “racial animus” involved, because any white student who expressed the same bloodcurdling desires to murder Jews as Khymani James would have received the same suspension, or even worse and probably immediately. And imagine what would have happened if that white student had filmed himself calling for the killing of all blacks — not only would he have been permanently kicked of Columbia but no college in the country would have admitted him.
“First, James as a person of color is squarely within a protected class of black and brown-skinned students who have been the major targets of Columbia’s disciplinary actions arising from pro-Palestinian expression,” said a copy of the suit obtained by The Algemeiner.
Neither “black and brown” students, nor indeed white, yellow, and red students, are in a “protected class” when it comes to advocating mass murder. And if more “black and brown” students than white students have been disciplined for such homicidal advocacy, that only reflects the unhappy fact that on the Columbia campus a large number of the those taking part in anti-Israel and pro-Hamas demonstrations are “black and brown” Arabs and Muslims, including many non-students.
“Secondly, James has been a victim of Columbia’s anti-Palestinian bias, severely punished, though not himself a Palestinian, as a supporter of the rights of Palestinian people. Third, James has been a victim of reverse discrimination, as Columbia privileges a class of self-described ‘Zionist Jewish’ people over everyone on campus who does not share their views.”…
What “anti-Palestinian bias” can Khymani James’ lawyers have in mind? Columbia is the home of Rashid Khalidi, Joseph Massad, Hamid Dabashi, and others who have made that university the foremost American academic center for those spewing anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian views. For years, Jewish students have been complaining about their feeling uncomfortable and harassed on campus, and this year, since October 7, Jewish students have been harassed, surrounded by screaming pro-Hamas demonstrators calling for the destruction of Israel (“From the river to the sea/Palestine will be free”), while accusing the Jewish state of “genocide.”
It continued, “The environment at Columbia, which has been rendered hostile for James, is sufficiently severe, pervasive, persistent, and offensive such that it deprives James of equal access to the opportunities and benefits that Columbia provides to other students.”…
Look, Khymani James, you have had “equal access to the opportunities and benefits that Columbia provides to other students.” But just like other students, you will suffer the consequences if you proudly release a film of yourself calling for the mass murder of any population — in your case, that population consists of those you call “Zionist Jews.”
Khymani James not only an antisemite, but a bizarre creature; some might even say he’s semi-demented. He’s been suspended because he endorsed, called for, and expressed the desire to take part himself, in the mass killing of Jews. The only students being physically threatened, and actually being assaulted, on the Columbia campus, have been Jewish students.
James will lose his frivolous suit. He will not be returning to Columbia. And with the kind of publicity he has brought upon himself, and that is now easily retrievable online, he will not be admitted elsewhere. And what decent employer will want to employ someone who has called so enthusiastically for mass murder?

Negro was never specifically a pejorative term, but “n*gger” certainly was, so starting in the 1960s “Black” or “Afro-American” (now “African-American”) became more commonly used. Things are complicated further by some Black people themselves using “n*gger” to sound tough or transgressive.

I had a good friend (now deceased)…who was Black and never referred to himself as anything…who called his kids the ngr word.
One day, I asked him if I could ask him a serious question and then asked “why’ he called his kids what was considered an insulting racist thing and he explained that he…and all the Black families he knew….did that to get their children accustomed to hearing it. That way, they wouldn’t burst out in anger or otherwise be upset if someone used it as a racist would
.He was a very good friend and I miss him. He was a wise man, too.
Another Black friend also called her little boy that word sometimes. She always had a smile in her voice and he’d laugh.
