India has shown itself to be pro-Israel, despite having to walk a tightrope. In November, India abstained from a UN resolution calling for a “humanitarian” ceasefire, while calling on states to implement an arms embargo. In 2017, Narendra Modi became the first Indian prime minister ever to visit Israel, and he came out in full support of Israel on October 7.
On the other hand, India backed a joint statement condemning attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon. It wasn’t Israel’s fault. Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly appealed to the UN and its Secretary-General António Guterres to withdraw the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from Hizballah strongholds and combat zones, stating that a failure to do so is “turning them “into hostages of Hizballah.”
Nonetheless India’s refusal to sign the letter condemning Israel for banning Guterres from the country sends a strong message to the extremely anti-Israel, pro-Hamas UN.
Early this month, Guterres was declared persona non grata by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, who called him an “anti-Israel secretary-general who lends support to terrorists, rapists, and murderers,” for not strongly condemning Iran’s missile attack on Israel.

While India has broken with the Global South on a number of resolutions that are critical of Israel, abstaining in at least four such major resolutions on Palestinian issues, the decision not to sign the letter circulated by Chile, and supported by Brazil, Colombia, South Africa, Uganda, Indonesia, Spain, Guyana and Mexico is particularly significant given it is seen as a defence of the U.N.

Actually, everything that India has done over the last one year has been its usual, old, dhimmi, Non-Aligned, anti-Israel self. In the UN, they voted for every anti-Israel and pro-Hamas resolution, including the one that recognized the imaginary “State of Palestine” as a full member. This would have been the equivalent of Israel recognizing Khalistan
Despite Jerusalem’s pleas, India refused to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization, even though Israel took a first step by declaring Lashkar e Toiba one, although the latter has never done a thing against Israel. India has had a groveling foreign policy towards villains in the region, namely Qatar, Turkey and “Palestine”. Also, during that operation, India was busy shipping “humanitarian” supplies to Hamas, and in one case I remember, there were Indian jute ricebags filled w/ bullets. India didn’t put those there, but Hamas did. India has been officially expressing all its sympathy & concern for the jihadists
Within India, most Hindus have been very supportive of Israel, and coincidentally, all pro-RSS/BJP entities have been Israel cheerleaders. However, the latter does what they do, totally ignoring the anti-Israel policies of the Modi regime. Whenever one demands that they account for it, they claim that it has to be done in the name of “diplomacy” (namely pandering to the Arab countries)
So a note to Israelis: Hindus do love & support them (in a way we don’t even Christians, much less muslims). But don’t expect to see that reflected by the Indian government, which has turned out to be an anti-Hindu regime: one of the biggest wolves in sheep clothing

I believe any little bit of support the ‘good’ side gets over the spread of the evil, is a good thing.
It seems that in nearly every nation these days the people are more inclined to support Israel than are the ‘leaders.’
Of course, in the U.S., the vocal crowd are all for the terrorists.

To Infidel and “somehistory” maybe you didn’t read the article correctly. India did not sign a letter than was signed by 104 other nations that condemned Israel. It was clearly a sign of support for Israel by the Indian Government for NOT condemning Israel for refusing to allow United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to enter Israel. Together with India’s abstention on a UN resolution calling for a “humanitarian” ceasefire, while calling on member states to implement an arms embargo that vote also showed support for Israel.
Those two votes back Israel although I am sure there are many high officials in India who do not wish to show any support for Israel. Modi is a friend of Israel. Not an enemy.

My point was that that was an outlier, and that everything that the Indian government did since October 7th last year has been pro-Hamas and anti-Israel. As I pointed out, the Hindus are another story altogether
Also, it’s not true that Indian bureaucrats are anti-Israel and Modi is pro-. In every statement he issued, Modi made it a point not to criticize Hamas & Hizbullah, stepped up humanitarian aid for them, w/ embarrassing results at times, and at best acted indifferent. It would have been the equivalent of Israel recognizing Khalistan and sending them humanitarian aid
It’s welcome that India didn’t sign this letter, but an increasing number of Hindus see the BJP for what it is – no different from previous anti-Hindu regimes. Which is why the BJP went from a 2/3 majority in parliament in 2019 to a bare plurality in this election
