IDF Spokesman Urges Lebanese to Seize Nasrallah’s Stash of Cash and Gold

IDF Spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari has announced to the world that the IDF has located slain Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah’s main bunker, built right under the Al-Saleh Hospital in southern Beirut, and discovered — how it did so was not made public — that it contained $500 million in cash, as well as an indeterminate amount of gold ingots. Now one might have thought that the IDF would instead have remained silent about the cache, and sent soldiers to remove the treasure and bring it back to swell the coffers in Israel, to help pay for the war effort against Hezbollah. Or the Israelis might, once the cash and gold were safely in Israel, have declared that a goodly percentage of the take would be used to indemnify the 60,000 Israelis who have been displaced for more than a year by Hezbollah rockets, missiles, and drones. And the rest, the Israelis could declare, would be held in trust for eventual return not to Hezbollah, but only to the government of Lebanon.

The Israelis did neither. They passed up the chance to enrich their treasury by a half-billion dollars — an amount that would cover only a fraction of their expenses in fighting Hezbollah — and instead asked the Lebanese themselves to go to the bunker, and take the money for themselves. Here are the exact words of Hagari: “There are hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and gold inside the bunker right now. This money could and still can be used to rebuild the state of Lebanon.” This plea — for the Lebanese government to go and get the cash and gold before Hezbollah did — was also repeated by Israeli army Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee, who in a broadcast urged the Lebanese government to return the “stolen” money to Lebanon’s citizens and not to allow Hezbollah to use it.

While making his allegations, Hagari said that the Israeli Air Force, which has been monitoring the site, would refrain from striking the hospital itself. That would spare the bunker underneath as well, and allow the Lebanese government to remove the cash and gold without worrying about airstrikes.

Fadi Alameh, a Lebanese lawmaker affiliated with the Shi’ite Amal Movement and the director of Al-Sahel Hospital, dismissed Israel’s assertions, branding them as “false and slanderous.”

Speaking to Reuters, Alameh called on the Lebanese Army to inspect the hospital to verify its contents, which he said included only operating rooms, patients, and a morgue.

Alameh added that the hospital was in the process of evacuation, though he did not indicate any immediate threat of Israeli attack. He expressed concern over the potential implications of Israel’s allegations but reaffirmed the hospital’s innocence.

You can be sure that the staff at Al-Sahel Hospital have been busy removing any signs of a Hezbollah presence inside or under the hospital, so that their air of injured innocence, in the face of IDF claims about Nasrallah’s bunker built under the hospital, can be maintained. One wonders, of course, about whether the Lebanese government will do as Hagari urges, and proceed to take away the cash and gold for the government of Lebanon, or whether Hezbollah fighters will beat them to the punch, and as the Shiite poet Omar Khayyam famously said, “take the cash and let the credit go.”

The takeaway is this: the IDF could without much trouble have helped itself to that cool half-billion in cash and many tens of millions in gold, and said nothing to the world. Instead, Daniel Hagari told the Lebanese government where the money was, and urged it to take it for the good of the Lebanese. Will any of those reporting on this story make clear what an opportunity Israel was passing up, and instead was trying in Lebanon, as it does in Gaza, to help the civilians held in thrall by a ruthless terror group?

    This is very generous of them–certainly, the IDF could have taken this money for Israel.

    I just worry, since Hezb’allah is so much a part of the government in Lebanon at this point, that the money will go to them to try and kill more Jews.

  3. As with the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, in the Islamic world NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED. As for the Lebanese government – that is like throwing bloody chum in a pod of sharks.

    • No good deed goes unpunished, indeed. They don’t let the truth get in the way.

      I hope the Lebanese public got wind of this announcement and shows up before Hezbollah does. Nothing like knowing you’re being ripped off by your own gov’t to turn some tables and despite MSM headlines, Hezbollah is not as popular in Lebanon as they are portrayed to be, being Shi’ite, for one, and seen by many Lebanese as an occupying force which is bringing war and conflict, plus destroying the economy. Maybe a feeding frenzy is what’s needed there. There are enough bloated carcasses to spare.

  4. The IDF is indeed morally the best in the world.
    There is no comparison at all with the Islamic army who will rob, rape, torture their enemies. That includes Muhammad and his companions who are called the best muslims in the history.

    • Mohammed had a problem when he decided to keep a harem and as a result his soldiers had no women. So Mohammed told them they could go to a nearby village and take the women, kill the men, steal the possessions, destroy their crops and all evidence they had existed. They have done that ever since.

Israel should have used that money to indemnify the 60,000 residents of Galilee and Golan who had been displaced, as well as replenish their military in Galilee who had been busy combating Hizbullah. Lebanon won’t mend ties w/ Israel, much less recognize Israel, won’t clear the area south of the Litani of shi’a, won’t create a DMZ in their territory or anything of that sort. Israel should recognize that and stop trying to win the hearts & minds of people who have neither

  8. Despite all the suffering Israel has been through they still don’t seem to understand their Islamic enemy. If they want to be generous then give it to the Lebanese Christian gov’t and help them drive out all the Muslims from power.

    Ofc what’s going to happen is the strongest group with the most guns will likely steal it all. Unless the Leb military already secured it. Additionally last I heard; the Leb pound is worthless and they use USD…so if its the old currency nobody will care but the gold has value.

    I can just imagine the fights breaking out over the loot…and if Hezbollah is still strong by numbers, they could try to take it also. It could get ugly.

    But the world should know by now ISLAM is the ENEMY…not necessarily all Muslims…a handful are ok but most of them are a problem. We need to deal with Islam as we did Nazism, period.

  11. Those EEeeevil Jews, exposing the corruption and personal aggrandizement of hamas and hesbola leadership at the expense of the people they purport to care about, and then leaving that hoard for the legitimate government of Lebanon to seize and utilize for those displaced.
