France: Woman converts to Islam, ‘devotes her life to religion,’ slits her daughter’s throat, is deemed mentally ill

Maybe she is mentally ill, but French and other European authorities love to ascribe all jihad activity to mental illness.

The police discovered the body of a 19-year-old woman, whose throat was slit in the apartment she shared with her mother on October 11, in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin). The latter, aged 44, is suspected of being the murderer. She was taken into custody and then hospitalized under duress due to her mental state, the Mulhouse prosecutor’s office said, confirming information from L’Alsace.

The alert was raised by the Muslim funeral directors, contacted by the mother to organize her daughter’s funeral. The officers went to the home located on rue Alfred Dreyfus, but, given the lack of a death certificate, they requested the intervention of the police. Upon their arrival, investigators discovered “a crime scene given the state of the victim who was lying on the floor in her room wrapped in a sheet,” specified Jean-François Assal, deputy public prosecutor of Mulhouse. Numerous wounds, “probably caused by a bladed weapon,” were noted, and a ceramic knife “found placed under bags” could be the murder weapon, according to the prosecutor.

The victim had a deep wound to the neck, “bordering on decapitation.” Jean-François Assal described “an extremely violent gesture at the vertebrae,” adding that “the force exerted on the neck was significant.” The autopsy confirmed that the young woman had had her throat cut and that she had 16 injuries, including defensive wounds, indicating an attempt at resistance.

Known since 2019 for her Islamic radicalization
The victim’s mother, found sitting on the bed mumbling prayers, was arrested. “Although French, born in France and having studied in France, she refused to communicate in any way other than Arabic”, said the prosecutor. Her mental state led to her being released from police custody and placed in compulsory hospitalization, after a psychiatric opinion. The suspect had been followed by the intelligence services since 2019 for acts of Islamic radicalization. Jean-François Assal specified that the mother had “devoted her life to religion,” while her daughter, who had been out of school for several years, had been subject to judicial monitoring under the authority of a juvenile judge, who tried to extract her from the rigorous influence of her mother.

The exact circumstances of the murder remain to be determined. A judicial investigation has been opened for “murder by ascendant” and the investigations are entrusted to the Mulhouse criminal brigade.
