A Syrian “asylum seeker” in Germany has just been arrested for vandalizing a statue of Martin Luther. After all, if you are a Muslim living in Germany and you wish to demonstrate your contempt and hatred for Christians and Christianity in Germany, damaging a statue of Luther is a convenient way to go about it. After the Luther monument on the market square in Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt was damaged, the police have found the suspected perpetrator. Surprise! It is not Peter, Paul or Jan.
In March of this year, “a man” climbed onto the Luther monument on the market square in Wittenberg and hit the Luther figure with an object. The statue, which stands on a pedestal and is covered by a canopy, was damaged on the back. A witness tried to stop the perpetrator by grabbing his bicycle. But the man let go of the statue, grabbed his bicycle and fled.
Had there not been someone present who tried to stop him, he — the Syrian — might not have fled, but remained to deliver a series of blows to the statue’s head.
Thanks to the witness and the intensive police investigation, the perpetrator was finally caught. And – wonder of wonders – it is not a Paul or Peter, but according to the police a 28-year-old Syrian who is said to be responsible for the damage to the Luther monument in Wittenberg. After extensive investigations by the State Security Service, the suspect was identified, according to the joint statement by the public prosecutor’s office and the Dessau-Roßlau police station. An investigation was initiated against the man for damage to property.
“In the course of extensive investigations conducted by the Department 5 (State Security) of the Dessau-Roßlau police station, the alleged perpetrator was identified. After initial clues in April 2024, suspicion of the crime was narrowed down to a 28-year-old man of Syrian origin living in Wittenberg in July 2024. The accused was clearly identified by a witness based on photographs of the crime being committed. The bicycle carried by the perpetrator at the time of the crime was also found and unequivocally attributed to the accused. In a subsequent interrogation of the accused in August 2024, the 28-year-old admitted the crime.”
The Syrian Luther beater, who lives in Wittenberg, has confessed to the crime. The police and the public prosecutor will now examine what further steps will be taken against the perpetrator. In a functioning constitutional state that seriously fulfills its duty and acts for the good of the country and its citizens, there is actually no question as to what should happen.
Why is this Syrian in Germany at all? He’s there as an economic migrant, though, of course, he told the immigration authorities he was an “asylum seeker.” Why did he have to seek asylum in Germany, rather than in other Muslim countries — especially Lebanon and Turkey — where millions of other Syrians are now living? The reason is simple: the generous German welfare state offers this Syrian a cornucopia of benefits, as it does millions of other Muslim economic migrants who have streamed into Germany ever since former Chancellor Angela Merkel threw open wide the country’s doors to 1.5 million Muslim immigrants, proclaiming to her countrymen that “Wir schaffen das!” (“We can do this!”): free housing, free medical care, free education including vocational training, family allowances, and more. This Syrian was happy to pocket all those benefits, but that unmerited largesse clearly did not soften his hostility to the non-Muslim Germans among whom he was living. After all, the Qur’an itself taught him that Muslims are the “best of peoples” (3:110) and non-Muslims the “most vile of created beings.” (98:6) For him, Luther was the most potent symbol of the Christianity, and Christians, he was taught to hate.
He’s now been arrested. And assuming the Syrian is convicted — it should be easy, for there was an eyewitness to the attack, who identified him from photographs of the scene — instead of spending a further fortune on him in a German prison, it would be far better to expel him from Germany, and send him back to one of the Muslim lands — if not Syria itself, then to Turkey or Lebanon, where millions of Syrians just like him (3.5 million in Turkey, 900,000 in Lebanon) are now living. And, of course, he will have to be banned from entering not just Germany, but from all of the countries of Western Europe, ever again.

There are many Roman Catholics who dislike Luther, but very few, if an of them, would desecrate or vandalize a statue of Luther, or a Lutheran church.
That kind of stuff happened in Germany some 400 years ago. Now, it’s many Muslims who are doing it, rather than Christians.

Back in the day when I was in basic training in the Navy I had identity tags issued to me. On the tags my religion was listed as Roman Catholic although I was not one. I didn’t complain. I think someone got the idea I was one because on Sundays I went to the Roman Catholic service to kill time and find out what they did there. They didn’t have a protestant service. I even considered going to the Jewish service (to kill time and find out what they did there) Because I didn’t know much about Judaism and wasn’t sure how they would react I never did go. Just think, I could have had Jewish instead of Roman Catholic listed on my tags. Either one, I wouldn’t have complained. I was neither so the listing didn’t matter. Religion is listed for when you are dying and if I’m dying I dont really care how anyone on Earth has labeled me. God knows.

I was in a hospital once and a priest was making the rounds. He stopped by. I told him that i was not Catholic. We had a friendly conversation, he went his way, wishing me well and I thanked him.
As you say, the listing is so the *correct* minister/pastor/priest can be called when the bell tolls.
I don’t recall that Adam had a label, and Abraham was called “God’s Friend,” but ”by Divine Providence, the disciples were called Christian.” So says the Book of Acts.

When I was a youngster my Mother was a loyal contributing volunteer to the Protestant church from long before me. She took me to church, made sure I went, every Sunday. Yes I followed along with her believing she knew the right way.
And then,out of the blue. my Dad decided to divorce her. Terrible times for me, a major shakeup in my life. And hers. Then, to make matters worse, the church turned their back on my Mom. As you can probably imagine, I didn’t take that lightly. Quit all organized religion right away. Never went back, dont regret it.

That Muslim who vandalized the Martin Luther statue probably did not know that Martin Luther zealously hated the Jews. Had this Muslim vandal realised that he may have spared the statue. But on the other hand he probably would have still vandalized the statue on the grounds that Luther is percieved as a Christian. Martin Luther is revered for challenging Popish dogma and delivering an understanding of Salvation By Grace to the common man. The big question is how did Luther reconcile his hatred of the Jews with John 4:22 (ESV) which says: “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.” ?

The question that baffles me is why the west choose muslims instead of non muslims as the imported migrants. The west most likely would not have problems with migrants from Philippines, Vietnam or Thailand for example. There are many Filipinos in the west, and I never hear any problem. If they don’t want Christian or Catholic Filipinos, certainly the Budhist Thais or Vietnamese would be good as well.
But the west choose hostile muslims and now they pay the price heavily.

Some Filipino Muslims in the southern Philippines sometimes cause terrorism and other trouble, as you may know.
However, most Filipinos are Christian probably about 93 percent; roughly eighty percent Catholic, plus ten percent Protestant, and also some Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Iglesia Ng Cristo, and the Christians cause few or no problems in other countries.

I’m not too sure it’s a matter of choice. Not for the polity in general, anyway. Maybe for the folks in power, but they could just be unaware. But then again: if you are unaware, you shouldn’t hold the job because you are incompetent and if you are aware you shouldn’t hold the job either, because you are a traitor. Probably most people do not realize this. Many Filipinos are working abroad because of the lack of job opportunity in the Philippines. For example, if I recall correctly, some years ago, there were many Filipinos in Italy, the largest Filipino community abroad, probably 1 or 2 millions. If the Italy government gave them a choice to be its citizens, certainly many would apply.

Part of this “War of Ideas” since 9/11 is the conflict of theology between Christianity and Islam.
This is one of the “reasons” that this Muslim migrant living in Germany turned to the destructive action of vandalism of that a statue of the great Protestant reformationist, Martin Luther. That Muslim who engaged in that specific kind of vandalism reveals that he terribly lacks anything of arguments of value or worth to uphold his side of this religious Christianity vs Islam conflict.
Furthermore ,one very good way to describe this twenty –first century “War of Ideas” is that of a great a conflict and a clash between Christianity and Islam. As explained by the Christian author, William Wagner,, in his book which is entitled HOW ISLAM PLANS TO CHANGE THE WORLD had explained on page 155 about a meeting that he had with a Muslim cleric , which reads “Several years ago one Imam told me that ,prior to 1990, the greatest enemy to Islam was Communism but now it is the Christian missions.” Further, on page 208 the Wagner had written about some zealous Muslims that “They have failed to stop Christian missions. They see Christian missions as their number one enemy.” On the very next page the reader is informed that “Christianity remains the number one buffer against Islam, a fact readily recognized by those who seek a world wild ummah.” [1]
