Domestic. In Uddevalla, the political majority – led by SD – has decided that the schools should serve more Swedish home cooking, which means more pork in the school canteen. The Muslim students are offered vegetarian options instead, which causes anger.
The decision has met with criticism from students who feel left out.
“It feels like those who are non-religious or Christian are given more priority. And that we Muslims are being forgotten, and that also leads to exclusion,” says Mohammed, a high school student at Agneberg School, to P4 West.
The investment in Swedish home cooking has been introduced so that more students will eat the school meals, according to Martin Pettersson (SD), chairman of the municipal board. He emphasizes that it is difficult to satisfy everyone, but that most reactions have been positive.
“It is rare for us politicians to receive as much praise as we received after taking this decision,” says the SD leader.
Despite the criticism from some students, Pettersson defends the design of the menu, where on some days only pork is served.
“It has its basis in the menu, it is difficult to make pork chops with beef,” he explains.
The decision means an increased cost of five million kroner per year, and according to Martin Pettersson, the students have gained more influence over what is served in the school canteens.

it is customary Swedish food and preferred by Swedes yet here again, the demand to end the customary dietary foods of the non muslims. Ante happd if an observant jewish student was there they would bring their own lunch and be quite happy to do so, without claiming to have the right to change the non jews choice of diet. This is how it should be. And why the heck western law isn’t simply ending this tyranny against ‘others’ is something voters should demand of their governments.

If so, what is the ultimate cause of that exclusion? A Jewish woman of my acquaintance showed more awareness when she said of the Jewish dietary laws, “they’re meant to keep us a people apart.”

Nonsense. Jewish dietary laws are certainly not designed “to keep us a people apart”.
Those laws may, in some rare situations, create some distance between people but that is certainly not their intent.

I’m not quite sure what they “feel left out” about. Is it because they are forbidden from eating one of the meals being served at lunch? Everyone else must only eat what they are allowed to eat?

They knowingly come to live in countries where certain eating habits have been established for centuries so it behoves persons coming to live there voluntary are expected indeed obliged to accept the habits or their hosts and circumvent them if and when necessary. The hosts should NOT be expected to adapt to the incomers. Those in authority need to make that clear , act accordingly and publicly so.

Funnily enough, neither Jews nor Hindus raise a firestorm w/ school cafeterias serving pork or beef or any other forbidden food. They just pack their own lunches for their kids & instruct them not to get anything from the cafetaria
