Germany: Berlin police tell people to ‘sing loudly’ if a knife attacker confronts them

Maybe if they sing really loud, the large numbers of criminal and jihadist migrants will go home.

As knife crime becomes more of an “everyday” part of life in Germany, more and more people are concerned about how they should respond if they are attacked or threatened with a knife. The Berlin police’s tip to “sing loudly” has now been dropped from their website after being widely mocked on X.

“A screenshot of our homepage has been circulating for a few days, according to which we recommend that in the event of an attack, you irritate the perpetrator through unexpected behavior, such as singing,” write Berlin’s police. However, they then go on to write that they have removed this advice from their website.

“This is recommended by the professional associations for psychiatry, among others. However, this advice does not correspond to our police experience and has therefore no longer been part of our recommendations since 2023. The flyer was already updated, now our website is too.”

However, the “tip” also sparked broad coverage in the German media, with Berliner Zeitung writing in response to the advice, “What sounds like a bad joke is actually meant seriously. The police give Berliners tips on how to deal with violent situations on their website and write that ‘statistically speaking, many will never get into’ such a situation. On the other hand, 48,200 physical assaults were recorded last year, the highest number in 10 years, which reduces many people’s sense of security.”…

Nevertheless, there is increasing interest from the public about how to respond to knife attacks in the wake of data showing that there are now 10 knife attacks in Berlin per day….

  1. So what would the German Police do if a knife attack victim started to sing the “Horst Vessel”, or how about “Deutschland uber Ales”, would they arrest that person for singing Nazi songs, that is of course if they survived the attack.

  3. Some years ago, I was being continually called on my home phone, no speaking, just breathing. I got so tired of answering, one day I was prepared and when there was no voice, I played Brooks and Dunn’s “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” ;;loud….and that was the last of the calls.

    Singing or screaming might work if it’s loud enough; but there needs to be more info given on how to stop some mozlum with a knife intent on killing. Perhaps rocks in a sock if guns are not allowed. Or a much larger knife

    • Pepper spray, mace or bear spray.

      If manufactured brands are banned, you might make your own, from curry or cayenne powder and water

      • Yes, and even bug spray or insect repellent sprayed in the face could cause the eyes to burn and a coughing fit long enough for the would-be victim to escape.
        Any spray can….air freshener, deodorant, etc. with propellent can be a defensive weapon.

        • Yes. Even anti-Covid spray or perfume or cologne spray…just be careful not to accidentally spray yourself, lol.

          If you can run from a knife attack by all means do so. If you’re cornered and cannot escape, though, it’s good to have some martial arts training.

          For example, Wing Chun, Krav Maga, Arnis/Escrima, Taekwondo, Karate, Kung Fu, Mua Thai kickboxing, MMA…they’re good for self-discipline as well as for self-defense.

        • I know a little. Just enough to make them choke or yell in pain.
          As some of those men who train others in self-defense say, the body has many weapons to use against an attack….hands, elbows, knees, feet….and the attacker has many vulnerable areas.

    Well, that explains why I’ve heard so often from people that psychiatrists are no help at all. It doesn’t explain why police would post something this absurd. Does the Berlin PD hire choirs to follow their officers into high risk situations? And just annoy them? Muslims are annoyed and much worse by the mere still-breathing status of infidels, as exemplified by the stabbings.

    The level of contempt that western governments exhibit towards their citizens continues to amaze and astound me.

    • James, May I suggest, “The Fightin Side of Me”? Modified to fit the nation…translate to German or whatever the mozlum scum might comprehend.

      “If you don’t love it, leave it. Let this song that I’m singing be a warning….”
