Canada: NDP leader Jagmeet Singh rips up Liberal-NDP pact to prop up Trudeau until election 2025

In March 2022, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and New Democratic Party (NDP) Leader Jagmeet Singh reached an agreement that would see the NDP prop up Trudeau in order to ensure that he remains prime minister until 2025. By then, Canada would have suffered a full decade with the Trudeau government. The NDP-Liberal pact was called the Supply and Confidence agreement, and was the first of its kind in Canadian history. The new prop-up pact between the two parties would serve to rescue Trudeau via an undemocratic manipulation that worked around Canada’s electoral system. It awarded Trudeau the benefits of a majority in the House of Commons. The merger agreement was not to be mistaken for a coalition government. The NDP could not install government ministers, but it guaranteed support on important bills and also cushioned Trudeau against any no-confidence motions that could cause his government to fall.

Now comes the news that NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has “ripped up” the agreement. According to CTV News:

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has pulled his party out of the supply-and-confidence agreement that had been helping keep Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority Liberals in power.

The deal is done.

The Liberals are too weak, too selfish and too beholden to corporate interests to stop the Conservatives and their plans to cut. But the NDP can.

The New Democratic Party with socialist roots is virtually indistinguishable from the Trudeau Liberals, except that it’s even farther left. But since Trudeau is at his lowest point in popularity since he became prime minister, and is still trending downward, the shameless Jagmeet Singh has now decided to jump ship.

The opportunist Singh has put himself out front for scrutiny (which he is sure to receive in abundance) since he’s extricated himself from his position as Trudeau’s number one lackey. Business Today India is taking note:

As the NDP has left Trudeau and his minority government, now is a good time to know more about its leader Jagmeet Singh. 

A key takeaway in Business Today was that “Trudeau proved to be helping Singh as he acquiesced to Jagmeet’s efforts at galvanising the Khalistani voter base.”

Not quite. Indeed, both leaders are woke and manipulate identity politics to the fullest, but Trudeau sought to galvanize the Khalistani vote long before the prop-up deal. Just before Trudeau visited India in 2018, “the magazine Outlook India published a series of articles warning that Canada was nurturing a resurgence of Khalistani terrorism.” The icing on the cake during Trudeau’s India visit was the invitation to a criminal Jaspal Atwal, to attend a formal dinner reception with Trudeau, hosted by the Canadian High Commissioner, which heightened the already growing spectacle of Trudeau’s visit. Atwal was sentenced to 20 years in a Canadian court for his part in the attempted murder of a visiting Indian state minister. Pictures of him posing with Trudeau’s wife Sophie at a banquet in Mumbai were also splashed across media outlets, and it emerged that his name made the guest list through the machinations of Liberal MP Randeep Surai.

Trudeau sought the Sikh vote so ardently, according to the Washington Post, that he even attended a Khalsa Day parade organized by a radical Gurudwara, or Sikh temple, in Toronto. 

Likewise, Trudeau sought and nurtured the Muslim vote so much during his tenure that Canada not only now has an “Islamic supremacist entryist problem” in government, but Trudeau installed an “Islamophobia Czar” that drew an immediate backlash and is now backfiring in many ways. Both the Islamophobia Czar and the NDP are (of course) strongly backing the Palestinian “cause.” In fact, the NDP’s publication Spring, “a magazine of socialist ideas in action,” published an article less than a month after the horrors of October 7, entitled “Mass movement for Palestinian solidarity forces NDP in the right direction.”

Regarding Jagmeet Singh’s Khalistani sympathies: even though he says that he condemns “all acts of terrorism in every part of the world, regardless of who the perpetrators are or who the victims are,” Singh also attended a Sikh separatist rally in San Francisco 2015, and has refused “to denounce Talwinder Singh Parmar, believed to be the mastermind of the 1985 Air India bombing.” A year later, he went to a the U.K.-based National Sikh Youth Federation event.

It has just emerged that “pro-India Sikhs, who form a substantial portion of the diaspora” are pushing back “against the divisive and disruptive activities of Khalistani elements, particularly those associated with the controversial group, Sikhs for Justice.” This would and should implicate both Trudeau and Singh as they put foreign interests ahead of those of Canadians.

Now that the Trudeau/Singh prop-up deal is done, so is Trudeau’s guarantee to stay in power. The Trudeau Liberals are in a weaker, more fragile position in parliament. The leader of the official opposition, Pierre Poilievre, has stated in reaction to the demise of the prop-up pact:

My message to sellout Singh is this: if you’re serious about ending your costly carbon tax coalition with Trudeau, then commit today to voting for a carbon tax election at the earliest confidence vote in the House of Commons.

If Jagmeet Singh thinks that by jumping ship now, he will garner more support than Trudeau, he’s delusional. He’s already proven himself to be a Trudeau lackey of the lowest degree, has supported Khalistani terrorists, and is the head of a party with socialist roots. He’s the one politician who is at least as scary as Trudeau. Most significant in Canada’s bottoming-out economy is that Singh ludicrously thinks his attacks on Poilievre will work. Singh has given Canadians no reason to trust him, especially when, as the Ottawa Citizen nicely put it: “when the guy slamming him is dressed in a simple T-shirt with a slogan saying he’ll ‘axe’ the carbon tax.”
