In the 1990s and the early years after 9/11, when I spoke about the jihad ideology, people would often bring up Turkey as a counter example, and claim that its secularism was the future of the Islamic world. No one says that anymore.
Oh, and why is Turkey still in NATO, collaborating with nations that classify Hamas as a terrorist group?
“Prayers for Hamas leader recited in 81 provinces in Turkey,” translated from “Hamas lideri için Türkiye’de 81 ilde selalar okundu,” Yeniçağ Gazetesi, July 31, 2024:
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed in Iran, was recited from mosques across Turkey. A funeral prayer in absentia will be performed after the afternoon prayer.
Hamas’s Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh lost his life as a result of an assassination in Iran. A series of statements came from states.
While Haniyeh’s killing caused a wide repercussion in Turkey, prayers began to be recited. In the images spread on social media, the sounds of the prayers for Haniyeh were heard in 81 provinces.
In a video reportedly recorded in Elazığ, the imam is seen saying, “Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was martyred by Zionist Israel. He is heard saying, “May Allah accept his martyrdom.”
The sound of the call to prayer was heard from mosques across Turkey for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was assassinated in Iran. Those who heard the call shared many posts on social media.
The President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş said the following regarding the killing of Haniyeh: “I wish mercy from God for Ismail Haniyeh, the brave son of the Palestinian resistance who became a martyr as a result of the vile assassination carried out in Tehran, and I wish patience and condolences to all the Palestinian people and those who have devoted themselves to the Palestinian struggle for freedom. We witness his life, his unwavering faith and jihad, which he devoted to the Palestinian cause with his family, his life and his blood. May he rest in peace and may his rank be high.”

This was probably happening in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Austria, France, Germany and Sweden, too.

I fell sorry for the 72 virgins.
Always wondered where they come from, anyone know?

Probably from the little girls mozlums kidnap and force to bow to their beast.

And there’s a rumor that the 72 virgins are octogenarians…

Which returns me to the question I’ve been asking every 4 months for the last 20 years:
Why is Turkey in NATO?
It’s like letting the CCP join ANZUS.
James Lincoln says
Cato the Elder,
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to kick a country out of NATO.

James is correct. Turkey joined NATO when it was a reasonably good ally against the Soviets, and didn’t have geopolitical aspirations: something that’s no longer true today. As Gravenimage pointed out yesterday, Turkey would not have been admitted into NATO were it to have applied today
In fact, NATO itself is about as relevant today as the League of Nations. Also, there are better arguments for letting Russia into NATO than letting Turkey in, and if Moscow were in NATO, there would be no need to have Turkey in NATO, or the base in Incirlik

The Zoroastrians believe that in the afterlife souls must pass over a mystical bridge guarded by Zarin-Gush the four eyed mastiff who lets the good souls pass but who tear to shreds the unworthy souls (especially those who have tormented dogs) whose torn bodies then drop to the abyss.

It’s not prayers he needs, but an asbestos suit where he is right now.
