Assistant Professor in Gender and Feminist Studies

Pitzer College, a member of the Claremont Colleges, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Gender and Feminist Studies. We seek a gender-feminist studies scholar and teacher who works primarily in North American contexts, inclusive of Mexico and the circum-Caribbean.  We are interested in scholars whose interests emerge from the intersection of those fields with interdisciplinary or disciplinary work in the social sciences and/or humanities, especially in relation to capitalocene-produced environmental crises. Some areas of interest might be but are not limited to: BIPOC queer and feminist theory, science and technology studies (including data science), transgender studies, disability studies, affect theory, ethnographic practice, community engaged scholarship, and activism. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to innovative approaches to teaching introductory courses, courses on theory, as well as advanced seminars. Assistant Professor of Black Studies

Providence College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Black Studies. Applicants from any subfield of Black studies are welcome to apply, and we are particularly interested in: Black feminism in theory and practice; the Black radical tradition; Black studies research methodologies; Black theater arts and performance studies; Black spirituality and religious practice; and Black politics, public policy, and public opinion. We seek an individual whose scholarly research, teaching excellence, and disciplinary engagement, will allow the Department of Black Studies to broaden our course offerings, enhance our scholarly visibility and reputation, and serve the broader College community.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in hand, or by the start date, in Black Studies, Africana Studies, or any associated discipline with a focus on the interdisciplinary study of African-descended people, anti-Black racism, racial justice, or collective forms of resistance to racism and its intersections with other systems of oppression. We are open to scholars whose geographic focus is the U.S., or elsewhere in the Americas, Europe, the Atlantic World, the Pacific World, and/or Africa itself, or whose work is transnational or comparative in nature

The Department of Afroamerican & African Studies (DAAS) at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) invites applications for an open-rank tenure track position in Global Black Urban Studies. We are interested in candidates from all disciplines who address in their scholarship and teaching Black social and cultural life within urban spaces. This position sits at the intersection of urban planning, urban design, and cultural, humanistic, and social inquiry, especially with respect to meanings of space and place and the theory and praxis of Black social and cultural movements.

We are seeking candidates who will contribute to the current strengths of our interdisciplinary community of scholars. DAAS is a rich unit that fosters research and teaching centered on the lives, experiences, cultures, histories, and societies of peoples of African descent on the continent of Africa and in diasporic communities in the United States and North America, Latin America, and the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia. Our interdisciplinary curricula and scholarship span—but are not limited to—the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

This position is part of a cluster within the university’s Anti-Racism Faculty Hiring Initiative with companion hires in the Taubman School of Architecture and Urban Planning, as well as in Digital Studies.

The Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) at the University of Oregon invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Transgender Studies to start Fall 2025.  We are interested in scholars whose research and praxis foreground interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, comparative, and intersectional voices, challenges, and lived experiences of trans communities as they intersect with issues of race, class, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, health, and nationality, among others.

The Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the UO is a dynamic and collegial interdisciplinary department with award-winning researchers and teachers.  The department offers a wide range of classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels that examine gender as a social construction category at the intersection of sexuality, race, class, citizenship, and other social differences. The department’s interdisciplinary curriculum features a broad range of feminist inquiries, from queer studies, women of color and decolonial feminisms, migration and citizenship, social and environmental activisms, and others.
