Mary Black is a member of the Raleigh City Council in North Carolina. She does not appear to take any interest in the state of the city’s roads, schools, affordable housing, transportation, hospital beds, sanitation services, and suchlike local matters. No, her obsessive interest is thousands of miles away from Raleigh, in Gaza, where, according to Mary Black, those terrible Israelis are attacking the peaceful innocent entirely harmless Palestinians. Now she faces a challenger for the seat she holds, and her obsession — some might call it an expression of deep-seated antisemitism — has already led former supporters to withdraw their support. More on Mary Black, her maniacal focus on Israel and the Palestinians, and her challenger, can be found here: “Embattled North Carolina Lawmaker Losing Support in Droves Following Attacks on Israel, Zionists,” by Peter Reitzes, Algemeiner, August 23, 2024:
A member of the Raleigh City Council in North Carolina who has come under fire for regularly attacking Israel and Zionists received a major blow to her re-election bid this week, with the local Democratic Party opting to endorse her opponent as the embattled lawmaker continued to receive backlash from Jewish and progressive leaders.
Following two recent reports by The Algemeiner, Mary Black came under increased scrutiny from the media, community members, and fellow Democrats for spending a disproportionate amount of time lashing out at the Jewish state, despite her job having no apparent responsibilities concerning Middle Eastern affairs.
Amid the uproar, the Wake County Democratic Party — who endorsed Black in 2022 — came under pressure not to endorse Black this year.
On Monday, the Wake County Democratic Party — which includes Raleigh — endorsed Black’s opponent, Mitchell Silver, who is a former New York City Parks Commissioner and Raleigh Chief Planner. Political insiders tell The Algemeiner it is now unlikely Black will be re-elected even as an incumbent in this nonpartisan election.
Mary Black won in 2022 only because of her endorsement by the Wake County Democratic Party. Now that that endorsement has been withdrawn, she has little chance of being re-elected.
A local columnist explained, “In a county and city that vote heavily Democratic, the party’s endorsements will guide many voters. That’s especially true this year when a presidential and gubernatorial election will bring a wave of voters to the polls who are unfamiliar with local officials and issues.”…
Those voters who normally don’t vote for local candidates will in 2024 show up to vote in the presidential and gubernatorial elections, and will likely make their down-ballot choices, as for the Raleigh City Council, based solely on the endorsements by the local Democratic party (Raleigh always votes Democratic). Black’s challenger, an experienced Parks Commissioner and City Planner, is now almost certain to win.
“I’m actually kinda happy to not be endorsed by the dems this time [sic],” [Black] posted on social media. “That means I can talk sh*t without fear … I can be a menace now.”…
“That means I can talk sh*t without fear.” Ah, the eloquence of Mary Black. And how does she plan to “be a menace”? Why, by being even more viciously anti-Israel than she has been up until now, if such is possible.
Rabbi Eric Solomon of Beth Meyer Synagogue, the largest congregation in Raleigh, added that he was “relieved that the Wake County Democratic Party did not endorse Council Member Mary Black, a city councilor who exploited her position of power to incite against her district’s Jewish community.”…
Mary Black not only obsessively attacked the Jewish state. She attacked “the Jews” for supporting that state.
The pressure on the Wake County Democratic Party not to endorse Black came from residents and prominent Democratic leaders. Last week, the North Carolina Democratic Party Jewish Caucus told The Algemeiner they endorsed Silver. About the same time, Solomon [Eric Solomon, the rabbi of the largest synagogue in Raleigh] publicly endorsed Silver in a widely read and shared social media post. In addition, a group of more than 20 prominent Democrats wrote a letter asking the Wake County Democratic Party “not to endorse between Democrats in local elections in Raleigh this fall.” Both Silver and Black are Democrats.
Those “20 prominent Democrats” asking the party “not to endorse” anyone did not go as far as one would have liked. That is, they did not call outright for an endorsement of Mitchell Silver to be a member of the Raleigh City Council. But in calling for there to be no endorsement of a candidate — that is, asking it to remove the endorsement of Mary Black that they had provided in 2022 — they made clear their deep unhappiness with her. In the end, the Wake County Democratic Party did provide an endorsement of her opponent, a professional town manager, Mitchell Silver.
The day Silver was endorsed by the Wake County Democratic Party, Black shared on social media: “If threads [sic] costs me the election that’s kind of a flex [sic] tbh [to be honest].” Suggesting she may lose the election, Black posted, “I’ve limited my potential to serve my community just to have the folks I’ve served turn their backs on me. Like ouch. But also this was expected and an excellent end to this social experiment I call being in elected office.”
She sees the writing on the wall; she knows her defeat is certain. She presents herself as having been mistreated and betrayed by her constituents. She’s feeling sorry for herself, for all of her hard work on their behalf only “to have the folks I’ve served turn their backs on me.” Except that she didn’t “serve them” — she was too busy with Gaza and Israel to spend much time on Raleigh’s business.

She must be of the kind of creature as cori bush….with the foul mouth and the threats.
Hopefully, the people of Raleigh will boot her further from the curb. she’s already in the gutter.

But the bigger problem remains, to wit, the Democratic Party of the USA is flushed with vile and idiotic notions and only when these vile and idiotic notions become too noticeable for election purposes does it distance itself from this or that person—like Mary Black.
In brief, Mary Black is not the real problem. She is only a symptom of the real problem. The Democratic Party of the USA is in its entirety is the real problem and by now one knows this or should know this.

Yes.
If I may use a medical analogy, it’s best – if at all possible – to treat the underlying cause of a medical issue rather than just treating the symptoms.

Well said.

I suppose that’s what you get when you talk sh*t all the time. Sooner or later, reasonable people will lose their patience. She’s too dumb to understand that.

Don’t forget she receives the support of the Democratic Party.
