Again in Maryland: Former Hamas-Linked CAIR Board Member Resigns from Hate Crimes Commission Due to Hate Speech

The Maryland Commission on Hate Crimes Response and Prevention had a scandal on their hands last year when it learned one of its members was engaging in hate speech on her Facebook page.

Commission member Zainab Chaudry, the Executive Director of the Maryland chapter of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), was calling Israel, Nazi Germany, and Hamas jihad terrorists “freedom fighters.”

This resulted in the entire Commission being disbanded and started over again from scratch, whereupon…they did it again.

After a flood of protests from the Jewish community, including the recently formed Council of Baltimore Region Activists (COBRA), it was announced last night that Ayman Nassar had resigned his recent appointment by Attorney General Anthony Brown  to serve on Maryland’s Commission on Hate Crimes Response and Prevention.

Nassar’s resignation follows revelations of Mr. Nassar’s extremism in a recent JNS article by Ben Baird of the Middle East Forum. As detailed in the article, Mr. Nassar is chair of  the Aafia Foundation, which advocates for the release of a convicted terrorist, and which promotes the very attitudes and biases which the Commission is charged with combating.  The Foundation’s facebook page refers to the terrorists who perpetrated the worst mass-killing of Jews since the Holocaust as “Palestinian resistance fighters;” states that the Israelis murdered on October 7 were actually “indiscriminately” killed by “friendly fire;” calls the atrocities committed by Hamas “malicious, deliberately untrue, propaganda;” opposes any expressions of sympathy for the suffering of “Apartheid Israel;” and mourns the death of Hamas arch-terrorist, Ismail Haniyeh….

Attorney General Brown’s appointment of Ayman Nassar is a repeat of the poor judgment he exercised with last year’s appointment of Zainab Chaudry, which prompted the Maryland Legislature to enact legislation completely revamping the Commission….

Instead of forming Commissions whose unspoken purpose is apparently to police white racists, why not take the concept of “hate” seriously and become aware of the most hateful group in America and the world today: pro-terrorist Muslims?

…As with Chaudry, Nassar was a [board] member of the Maryland chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a Hamas-linked Islamist group that lawmakers and activists sought to permanently ban from serving on the commission. However, Nassar also leads a nonprofit that advocates for convicted terrorists, and he founded a youth group that employed an instructor who celebrated Hamas’s Oct. 7 massacre in Israel. Most alarmingly, the new commissioner’s social-media page is filled with hate speech and offensive commentary….

Unfortunately, the Senate does not reconvene until January 2025, and Nassar will attend meetings as an “acting commissioner” until that date. Therefore, Maryland residents who oppose his nomination should take their concerns directly to Brown’s office, which must find a suitable replacement before the commission’s next scheduled meeting.
