Israel and Iran are in a high noon situation. Iran has given ample warning of an impending attack for “punishment” of Israel and revenge for the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, which happened on its own soil, compounding Iran’s humiliation.
Vladimir Putin, with whom Iran has become close to since Russia’s war with Ukraine, has reportedly told Iran “to avoid civilian casualties in any retaliatory attack on Israel.” But jihadists have always attacked civilians. Iran has even announced that Hizballah would deliberately target Israeli civilians. In light of that, Israel may well launch a preemptive strike to protect its citizens, rather than wait as a sitting duck while Iran plots with its full range of proxies. Hizballah leader Hassan Nasrallah has vowed a “strong” and “effective” attack on Israel, either “alone or in co-ordination with other Iranian-supported factions in the region.”
Adding to tensions is the installment of new Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Israel’s Foreign Minister has called for his elimination….

Israeli officials are leaving no options off the table as they consider the possibility of hitting Iran with a preemptive strike while Jerusalem stares down threats in every direction.
Following a Sunday meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his chief security officials from the defense ministry, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Mossad and Israel’s internal security agency Shin Bet, local reporting said preparations were being made should an attack be launched by Iran or its proxy terrorist organizations.
Concerns over Israeli security have once again mounted following last week’s assassination of Hezbollah military chief Fuad Shukr in Beirut and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Israel has not claimed credit for the killing of Haniyeh, though Iran and Hamas have both blamed Jerusalem for the attack and have vowed retaliation.
Israeli reports said there would need to be “airtight” proof that Iran was planning an attack before it would carry out a preemptive strike, though an additional meeting Monday between top defense officials signaled Jerusalem is on heightened alert….

When it comes to Islam, there is no such differentiation between a “civilian” and a “combatant”. All Muslims are commanded to be fighters for Allah against infidel unbelievers, and all infidel non-Muslim kuffars are legitimate targets in the Muslim jihad to conquer the world.
Arabs laugh at western naiveté when it comes to their holy war…and they use the terms “civilian casualties” on the Muslim side of the ongoing war to weaken the forces against them. Just look at the happy and proud mothers of dead Muslim children who are rejoicing that they were “martyred” in the cause of Islam. So far, Israel has achieved some deterrence w/ Hizbullah and Hamas, thanks to the killings of Shukr and Haniyeh. But it has achieved none w/ Iran. So if they’re considering something pre-emptive, see if you can take out Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader. He’s not technically a government “official”, per se: he’s an imam! So Israel could claim that they didn’t hit the Iranian regime while taking him out, since the president, prime minister, speaker, et al would all be untouched.
