The first version of the dramatic tale about the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas, in a Tehran guesthouse, went like this: Haniyeh had been killed by a rocket fired by an Israeli plane. That story turned out to be false. Had it been true, it would have been impressive enough, for it would have meant that an IAF plane had flown across the enemy airspace of Syria, Iraq, and Iran for 985 miles, hit its target in Tehran, and made it safely back over the same distance and the same countries.
But we then learned the real version, even more startling, about which you can find more here: “How Ismail Haniyeh was killed by a bomb placed months ago,” by Jane Prinsley, The JC, August 1, 2024:
The killing of Hamas’s top political brass, Ismail Haniyeh, was planned months ago.
Newly released details of the assassination reveal that the bomb that killed the Hamas veteran was planted approximately two months ago and was so precise that other terror leaders staying in the same guesthouse were left unharmed.
According to seven anonymous Middle Eastern officials who briefed the New York Times, including two Iranians and an American official, the Hamas leader was killed by a device smuggled into the guesthouse where he was staying in Tehran.
The bomb, which was planted in a room that Haniyeh was known to have stayed in before, is said to have been detonated remotely once it was confirmed that the Hamas leader was inside the room after attending the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, according to five officials.
You can see online a video of Ismail Haniyeh in the front row — an honored guest — at the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian. He can be seen clapping to the repeated cries from the crowd of “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.” A few hours later, Haniyeh was dead, and Israel was very much alive, having demonstrated to the world yet again its determination to survive, and offering security services everywhere a master class in how to deal with your mortal enemies.
The Mossad had somehow managed to plant an explosive in the very room — the guesthouse has many — that it knew from previous visits by Haniyeh he would likely be placed in again. How they did this is not known. Was someone on the guesthouse staff a Mossad collaborator? And where was that bomb hidden so successfully in that room, given that the guesthouse was surely swept repeatedly by the just such hidden explosives?
Israel promised, after the killing of eleven Israeli athletes and coaches at the 1972 Munich Olympics, that it would hunt down the Black September killers one by one, and did so, with only one of them — Abu Daoud —managing to die a natural death. Mossad’s list of assassinations is very long, and over the years has included dozens of the well-deserving: high-ranking members of the PLO, assassinated in a nighttime raid in Beirut by the IDF’s Sayeret Matkal on April 9-10, 1973, as well as members of Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad over the last five decades. Zuheir Mohsen, military commander of As Saiqa, was shot dead in Cannes, in 1979. In Iran, the Mossad and its local collaborators managed to kill six prominent nuclear scientists between 2010 and 2020, including the head of its nuclear program, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. And in a spectacular operation involving more than a dozen Mossad as visitors from England, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia, the Israelis managed to kill Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in a hotel room in Dubai. Al-Mabhouh was a co-founder of the Al-Qassam Brigades,, the military wing of Hamas, and wanted by the Israeli government for the kidnapping and murder of two Israeli soldiers in 1989, as well as for purchasing arms from Iran for use in Gaza.
Now Ismail Haniyeh has joined this murderous crew, hoist not by his own, but by Israel’s well-planted petard. May he rest in pieces. And wouldn’t now be a good time for those Western countries that have sent billions to the Palestinians in Gaza, instead of sending more, to open an investigation into the $4 billion that Haniyeh, in his grasping career, managed to steal for himself and his family?

The dead ghoul, much the same as his dead ‘prophet,’ is already the food for bacteria and worms. No more theft, destruction or death will this dead terrorist produce. His evil sowing is over. In his case, the fat lady has finished singing.
Ray Jarman says
Somehistory, as usual you present excellent insight into the affair. Also the world the West and especially the UN should present Israel with applause rather than ridicule since there were no so-called innocent people killed in the attack.
somehistory says
thank you, Ray. And you are so right….they should be giving awards, at least a big thank you, to Israel for taking one more murderer out of action.

Good exchange, Somehistory and Ray.

Israel needs to kill the remaining Mossad leaders, and to pwtition the ICJ to help them confiscate the billions of stolen dollars to use as compensation for October 7th.
The rich Gulf oil states such as Qatar, UAE and Saudi Arabia, should contribute money to help rebuild Gaza after the war has ended.
Rubiconcrest says
All the costs since they all love the Palestinians so much.
carpediadem says
Mahmoud Abbas aided and financed the Munich Massacre,.
A pity the Israelis never eliminated him.
Karen Dowden says
Mossad leaders?????? You mean Hamas!
somehistory says
He made the correction….down below. One minute after seeing his error.

Mike, I think you meant remaining Hamas leaders.
Mike says
Correction: HAMAS leaders, NOT Mossad leaders!! My apology!!

Thanks, Mike! I knew what you meant.

A Hamas funeral
Covered in a white sheet, all scrubbed and spruced up for allah…….and nowhere nice to go
Kepha says
Some other kleptocrat will replace Ismail Haniyeh soon enough, and every well-heeled Leftist from Los Angeles to Frankfurt am Oder will swoon over him.
somehistory says
hamas has already replaced the ghoul with another.

The Wikipedia page on Hamas still has Haniyeh’s name w/ a ‘X’ next to it, indicating that he’s been eliminated. No mention of who’s succeeded him
From what I understand, Sinwar is in Doha, like Mashal. Hamas seems to be a tad leery of publishing their new leadership list, after taking the 2 hits on Haniyeh and Deif

I saw the report on the news feed….didn’t read the article…and he was named. All of the names are the same to me, so I don’t recall what it was. May have been from the jeerza source. Or whatever the name of those liars is.
Probably won’t be long before he’s seated somewhere “safe” where he can be pictured and named by other sources.

According to the feature article:
“the Hamas leader was killed by a device smuggled into the guesthouse where he was staying in Tehran.”
Iranian “leaders” – rightfully fearful that they will be the next target – will not sleep well tonight.
Even after a fistful of Ambien…
somehistory says
Evidently there are many rooms in that guesthouse, but the target room was one where he had stayed before

Damn, it’s instructive and most welcoming how the one Jewish state keeps one-upping the over fifty Muslim states as well as so many Islamic terrorist organizations (N.B., there is some overlap re Muslim states and Islamic terrorist organizations).
Good for Israel. Long live Israel.

I still doubt that Mossad was behind this operation. More likely, it was done either by one of his rivals, or from some rogue faction of the IRGC
Israel usually is pretty happy to admit when it’s done something, like in the cases of Shukr and Dief last week
jdow says
Hm, dogs are used to sniff out explosives. But, dogs are haram. So no bomb sniffing dogs checked the rooms? Or is it simple overconfidence, cockiness? Either way, Iran’s security forces “made a booboo.” They are a bunch of Keystone Kops.

It’s absolutely amazing how these goons manage to get their hands on billions of dollars. If this is where are foreign aid goes don’t you think it’s time for congress to shut down the gravy train, or are they riding that same train with offshore bank accounts and LLC’s to hide the kickbacks?
Looks like most of our money and foreign aid stays at the top and never reaches the people. We seem to be supporting those who are depressing their own citizens.

Check out the Israeli comedy video from late last year, “Hamas leaders: Dollar Bills.” Awesome parody. They have several other great spoofs as well, such as “Untisemity college.”

Yes indeed, Hugh–and extra points for using “hoist on his own petard”.
