Katz is right, but the NATO top dogs will never even dare to reconsider Turkey’s membership, despite its obvious alignment with the enemies of the U.S. and the West.
“FM Katz responds to Erdogan: A country like Turkey should not be a member of NATO,” by Elad Benari, Israel National News, July 12, 2024:
Foreign Minister Israel Katz on Friday blasted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after he called on NATO to stop its cooperation with Israel.
Erdogan, who spoke at the NATO summit in Washington on Thursday, said that it is not possible for NATO to continue its partnership with the Israeli administration.
“Until comprehensive, sustainable peace is established in Palestine, attempts at cooperation with Israel within NATO will not be approved by Turkey,” Erdogan stated.
In response, Katz wrote in a post on social media site X, “Erdogan declares at the NATO summit that he will not allow NATO to cooperate with Israel.”
“First of all, Erdogan, you decide nothing. Furthermore, a country like Turkey, which supports the murderers and rapists of Hamas and the Iranian axis of evil, should not be a member of NATO,” added Katz. “You disgrace Ataturk’s legacy!”…

And nothing about the Turkish occupation of northern Cyprus ?

Quite a few reasons to remove Turkey from NATO, putting aside for a moment the very rationale of NATO:
➤ Turkey’s aggressive posture against Greece, which is a fellow NATO member, such as trying to claim islands in the Aegean Sea, trying to force Greece to take in muslim refugees (why can’t they stop in Turkey, which is a safe country?)
➤ Turkish illegal occupation of Northern Cyprus
➤ Turkey’s support to Azerbaijan against Armenia
➤ Turkish military incursions into Iraq and Syria not to fight ISIS, which would be a NATO compatible operation, but to fight the Kurds of both those countries. That, plus its land grab in Syria
➤ Turkey’s support to the muslim brotherhood, which is a destabilizing influence in the region
➤ Turkey’s support for Hamas against Israel
All of these are good reasons to remove Turkey from NATO

This may all well be true, but let’s face it: INCIRLIK! That’s the reason why Tur(n)key was made a member of NATO. Remember: except for a teeny weeny little part (the part of Is tam bul situated in Europe), Turkey is not a European country, but an Asian country.
But Incirlik is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for the stability of the region.
And remember: Turkey didn’t join Nato yesteryear. No, it joined many, many, many years ago at the request of the West.
And remember: back then mohamedanism was no where in sight, not even in Egypt.

Last statement not true: mohammedanism was very much the official religion of every country south of Turkey.
However, it’s worth remembering that the Turkey that joined NATO was Kemalist Turkey, which is as different from today’s Turkey as the Soviet Union was from Russia (despite Putin’s KGB past). Just like there was no reason that Russia couldn’t have been welcomed into NATO, there was similarly no reason to continue Turkey in NATO once Erdogan became president.
As far as Incirlik goes, it is irrelevant. As is NATO itself. Does anybody think Erdogan will allow Incirlik to be used as a launchpad against Russia? Or Turkey to be used to route weapons to Ukraine?

I’d agree w/ Mr Israel Katz, except that I’d say that the raison d’etre for NATO doesn’t exist, and hasn’t for 30 years. All it does is aggravate relations w/ Moscow and particularly today, risk dragging us into WWIII

Unfortunately, it was likely never anticipated that a NATO country would go rogue.
Very, very difficult to remove a member from NATO…
