No amount of effort to try to normalize the Taliban will change its doctrines, and so-called humanitarian aid to Afghanistan will only flow into its coffers and strengthen it against its own people. The Taliban’s latest move to drastically slash the wages of women should be expected. Following the world’s complaining about it, especially at the pointless UN Human Rights Commission, nothing beyond lip service will be done even to attempt to change the treatment of women in Afghanistan.

Shugufta, an elementary school teacher, earned around $300 per month under the previous Western-backed Afghan government.
But after the Taliban seized power in 2021, the extremist group cut the salaries of female government employees by half.
Despite her lower income, Shugufta was relieved to work as the country grappled with an economic meltdown after the Taliban takeover.
The hard-line Islamist group has barred thousands of women employed by the previous government from returning to their jobs. Only women whose jobs cannot be done by men according to the militants’ strict interpretation of Shari’a law — including doctors, nurses, and teachers — have been permitted to work.
But in a major blow, the Taliban-led government last week issued a decree that set the monthly salaries of all female government employees at 5,000 afghanis, or around $70, regardless of their job, qualifications, or experience……
…..Volker Turk, the UN high commissioner for human rights, said the “discriminatory and profoundly arbitrary decision further deepens the erosion of human rights in Afghanistan.”
In a June 13 statement, he called on the Taliban to “rescind all laws, instructions, edicts, and other measures that discriminate against women and girls.”…

As terrible as that is, that the Taliban have “cut women’s wages up 75%” That should still be of no actual surprise when considering the Islamic anti-female essence of the Taliban.
For example, some time back a Taliban spokesman answered a question asked of him about the basic human rights of females, both girls and women, he declared” We guarantee all their rights within the limits of Islam.”
All aware people who understand Islam know that the last four words of that statement has an obvious meaning.
Which is that with Islam the rights of females are very limited. As in within the Islamic view, they have little to no rights at all. .
As this has been so well explained by Brigitte Gabriel in her book, entitled THEY MUST BE STOPPED in Chapter 9 of the title “Islam’s Contempt for Women” which informs its reader on page 171 “Control of behavior and disregard for human life are key elements in Islamic ideology.”
In addition, on the next page it further reads” Women in Islam are considered unclean, deemed inferior even to dirt.”
The tragic and sad reality is that Islam is a religion of brutal, cruel, harsh and even, at times, murderous misogyny.

Not a good idea, @Nancy Albert. A bunch of kvetchy American women enslaved by Taliban would mean that our chivalrous instincts would kick in, and we’d go back in with our military (which will soon be needed in more strategic areas) and fight the same old war dependent on our true-blue, ever-loyal, shoulder-to-shoulder ally Pakistan for the logistical train.
I recall how in the wake of 9/11, they trotted out all seven Afghani feminists to lecture on US campuses about what an evil bunch of male chauvinist pigs the Talibs were. Frankly, I’m of the mind we’d have been better-advised to quietly rebuild out human intelligence infrastructure and pull a wet operation on Mullah Omar and Osama Bin Laden, terroizing a few people from at most a few hundred yards than terrorizing whole cities from 30,000 feet (I’m sure there probably would’ve been plenty of Talebs or disgruntled Qaeda types who could be turned by the sight of a few thousand greenbacks). Or,, when OBL felt confident to do his airborne victory lap, we send in a few jets to intercept his plane, land it at one of our bases, take him off in handcuffs, and apologize all over the floor to any inconvenienced travellers (as we did with the Achille Lauro hijackers)..
Yes, Uncle Kepha has fantasized about tattooing Eastern Turkistan flags on the forreheads of some of our radical students and dropping them in fro of People’s Armed Police HQ in Urumqi, but, US citizenship law is such that if you’re a US citizen, you could be a radical, bomb-throwing, ebola-carrying thug, but we’d have to let you back in (even if the FBI awaits on the tarmac in hazmat suits).
