NYC: Suspected jihadi caught near airport with a dozen weapons and 179 rounds of ammunition

“Suspected NYC jihadist was caught near major airport as new details of averted ‘disaster’ are revealed,” by Khristina Narizhnaya and Jorge Fitz-Gibbon, New York Post, June 13, 2024:

The suspected Queens jihadist busted with an arsenal of weapons in his SUV was ordered held without bail on Thursday — as disturbing new details of the case emerged in court.

Judd Sanson, 29, was just blocks from La Guardia International Airport when he was stopped by alert cops early Wednesday — and nervously reached under the seat of his SUV during the first few tense moments of the encounter with the officers, prosecutors revealed.

They later found a loaded 9mm Glock pistol under the driver’s seat.

“Sorry, there is a lot of drunk people nowadays,” Sanson allegedly told the cops after they stopped him for having obscured license plates on the vehicle. “I live in Jamaica. I was visiting my uncle.”

But police had already spotted a knife strapped to Sanson’s leg, along with an MTA reflective vest and “a makeshift axe hanging from the ceiling” and a “makeshift sword” inside the vehicle, Queens Assistant District Attorney Dylan Nesturrick said in Queens Criminal Court.

In all, the prosecutor said nearly a dozen weapons, an NYPD bulletproof vest and 179 rounds of ammunition were found inside the black Ford Explorer.

He also said investigators found a “disturbing photo” on Sanson’s Facebook page, but did not elaborate.

“This car stop averted what could have been a disaster for the citizens of Queens, New York City and potentially even the country,” Nesturrick said….

“It is concerning that he was a few blocks way from the airport,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said after the arraignment. “You got to ask about the intent.”

Sanson was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, and was questioned at the 110th Precinct stationhouse until he was led out in handcuffs earlier on Thursday for his date in court.

He smiled as he was peppered with questions by reporters — and broke into a wide grin when one asked if he had purchased his weapons arsenal on Amazon….

  1. Did he get the NYPD vest online or from a ‘friend’ in the PD?
    There may be a ‘lot of drunk people’ roaming about, but did he expect the cops to believe all those weapons were for keeping a drunk from ralphing on his duds?

    It’s good the cops were alert to the tag thing. Cops are taught to notice if the car is clean everywhere except for the license plate.

    Another question: if he had made it to the airport, would he have been searched and told to step aside as the Jews in the U.K. were for having a flag?
    We all know there are many mozlums working in airports.

    • Absolutely right about that Somehistory, there are far too many mozlums working in our airports. It really is a frightening prospect.

      • thank you for your reply, John. I have not liked the idea of flying for a very, very long time now due to that problem.

        • Not long after 9-11 I flew out of Orange County with a girl who was about 5 foot 2. They gave her a hard time going though to the boarding area. I got a bit annoyed and told the guy, you look more like al-qaeda than she does. That didn’t go over well but I didn’t care. She is more reserved than I am and she just looked at me a bit stunned.

        • Several years before 9/11, my two kids and I had to fly and each of us had our own tube of toothpaste.
          The guy pulled us aside and asked us about them; we explained and all was well.
          I can only imagine if that happened today. Bright lights, water boarding, pulling our fingernails out…unless we also carried a flag for hamas or isis.

        • After 9-11 I flew from the East coast to the West coast with a back pack full of computer parts. Power supplies, wires, etc. I got an explosive residue wipe down.

        Not absurd law. That is right Bill. He/it does have that right. I’m sure it and he/it will follow our laws and obligations concerning firearms and the right to bear arms. Lets disarm even though they continue to arm.

  5. I didn’t see any crime listed in this article. He had guns. That’s legal last time I checked.

    • Yes unregister unlicensed gun unsecured under his front seat , bullet proof vest you need a permit to own in city ,a dozen large knives and a sword strapped to his leg (they where more info in other articles) he had a Kentucky license ,but his family lived in Queens. He reach for the gun under the seat(where the gun was) when the cops pulled him over .Bad registration on the car wrong tags Nothing to see here according to you .The cops all have cameras on them running for every traffic stop now in NYC He also had a police uniform and a Guy Fawkes V for Vandana mask nothing to see here .So besides have a gun(unlicensed un registered)knives, swords ,mismatched plates ,tags( impound car just on that with everything in it,)wrong license according to where he lived ,bulletproof vest (illegal to own without permit in city ),police uniform .You would have sent the guy on his way if you where a cop and pulled him over?

    • With 10 million question marks crossing our southern border in the last 4 years what do these people who say they are in charge and there is “no problem:” and the border is secured think would happen? This one that was caught this time looks to be home grown ,but in this chaos of not enforcing laws on the books who would expect crime and terrorism to not increase?
