A terror-praising Sydney preacher who applauded a teen for “standing up for prophet Mohammed” when he allegedly stabbed Assyrian Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel will not be investigated by police, as political leaders said authorities have “to get serious” on hate speech.
The Australian can reveal that a southwest Sydney cleric known only as “Brother Ismail” made the intervention on the alleged stabbing to a packed crowd at the Al Madina Dawah Centre in late May.
But that praise does not fall foul of commonwealth legislation outlawing “praising” a terrorist act, with state police confirming it would not investigate the cleric.
“These are our red lines and insults from a man (Bishop Emmanuel) followed by billions … it’s not a good idea, and this was the outcome and consequences,” the preacher said, referring to the Wakeley alleged terror incident on April 15.
“That kid, in his actions, stood up and defended the honour of Mohammed …”
A boy, 16, was charged with committing a terror offence after allegedly stabbing Bishop Emmanuel, who sustained, but recovered from, multiple injuries.
The sermon, posted to an online video platform, also appears to cut as Brother Ismail continues criticising the bishop and he lashed mainstream Islamic leaders for urging social cohesion in the wake of the attack.
“(Mainstream leaders) said ‘we don’t know him (the teenager), this was against Islam and is not the approach of Islam’,” he continued.
“Other (mainstream leaders) said they were praying for the bishop’s recovery. What kind of leadership is that? They (the bishop) stepped on our team and red lines, and yet our leadership did nothing about it.”
The cleric won’t be investigated for possible breaches of section 80.2C (1) in the criminal code, which outlaws a person “praising” a terrorist act, “in circumstances where there is a risk that such praise might have the effect” of motivating a person to commit another….
Brother Ismail is a regular speaker at Bankstown’s Al Madina Dawah Centre, run by Abu Ousayd, who is also known as Wissam Haddad….

I realize that many have echoed the sentiment, what if the perpetrator had been a Christian or Jew that attacked and almost killed a Muslim imam. The international press and all the television stations would have been in an uproar. This would have been an ongoing unleashing of hatred of the villain and an undying love of the imam. It is pathetic and gutless, that’s for sure. There are around 800,000 Muslims in Australia, which has a population approaching 27 million people and yet there seems to be some kind of hands off approach. Maybe the authorities are afraid of violent protests by Muslims if they acted. The Hungarians have it right. You keep islam out and you avoid all this trouble. Here in Australia, the people voted in, in the Federal sphere of government, a far left, useless bunch of fools and the state of New South Wales, where this hate preacher resides also has a Labor government, so the country is in trouble and is on its way down the drain due to endless idiotic policies.

I agree, James, that all western, well all non-Muslim nations, should follow the example being set by the Hungarians, the Poles, the Czechs and the Slovakians. Although I do meet some pleasant Muslims, and where I live i do meet quite a lot of them, I can find nothing but totally barbaric garbage in islam. Muslims are always going to be all about imposing islam on all of us, not getting along peacefully with non-Muslims, so that is why I say, keep Muslims out. I can’t believe how long it is taking so many people, idiots that they are, and lazy bastards that they are, including many people I know, who refuse to learn anything about islam’s nature, to wake up and face reality when it comes to islam, this clear enemy of all civilised, enlightened values. Down the drain we go and I notice that quite a few manufacturing businesses are already saying that they can’t afford to continue to make stuff here and are relocating to Asia. There are going to be a lot of bloody angry people around when they are cast into poverty in what used to be a fairly affluent country. Now, there is a remote possibility that this jihad-preacher was making a lewd double-entendre or a risque joke, but as an imam in a masjid, that is VERY doubtful!
I suspect that he was likely referring to the game of chess, which is not universally condemned as haram in Islam, even by the most conservative schools of thought (unless the king sports a cross or a Star of David rather than a crescent).
If your opponent is sacrificing a bishop ( as in Fischer versus Spassky in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1972, for the World Chess Championship), it’s OK to grab it, as long as you have calculated the subsequent combos of moves, and determined that the sneaky bugger’s trap will not be effective!
Anyhow, even though bishops are minor pieces, roughly equal to knights (generally worth three pawns each), capturing them can give you a decisive winning advantage, as long as your development is better than your opponent’s, and you don’t fall into a checkmate trap, or a trap that will ultimately cost you more material!
