Some ‘Genocide’: Israel Builds Eighth Field Hospital in Gaza

The charge that Israel is committing “genocide” that we now hear bruited about, at campus demonstrations, at the UN, and even in Congress, from such pro-Hamas politicians as Rashida Tlaib (D-Khan Yunis), is, of course, nonsense. The IDF did not drop 14 million leaflets, send six million messages, and make five million telephone calls in order to warn civilians in Gaza away from neighborhoods and buildings about to be targeted because it wanted to commit “genocide.” It has made colossal efforts to minimize civilian casualties as it wages war against the terror group Hamas. It has taken measures, according to Professor John Spencer of West Point, a specialist in urban warfare, to minimize civilian casualties “that no army in the history of warfare” has taken. Now we have further proof that Israel is not committing “genocide.” It has just opened its eighth field hospital in Gaza to treat the sick and wounded. The Israeli military and Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announce that they have coordinated the establishment of a new field hospital in the central Gaza Strip, run by the International Medical Corps aid organization.

The hospital was built in the Deir al-Balah area, and began operations in recent days, according to the IDF.

“This coordination is a further part of the IDF and COGAT’s humanitarian efforts to ensure aid, including medical aid, reaches the Gazan civilian population,” the military says in a statement.

Israeli authorities say they coordinated the entry of 150 international medical staff and equipment, including medication, beds, food, water, tents and other materials for the field hospital.

Since January, Israel has sent more truckloads of humanitarian aid — food, medicine, personal hygiene supplies — into Gaza than Egypt has. Moreover, the number of trucks from Egypt has gone steadily down since the first months of the war. At the moment, a total of 14,000 truckloads have gone through Kerem Shalom, while only 11,000 have come through Egypt’s Rafah Crossing. Yet just as the eight field hospitals built by Israel in Gaza are never reported on, so, too, is the fact that more aid has come into Gaza from Israel than from Egypt. And when, most briefly, Israel shut the Kerem Shalom crossing, in response to the killing of four of its soldiers stationed there by a Hamas barrage, the Western media failed to explain the reason for that short closing, leading one to assume wanton cruelty on the part of the IDF.

As usual, the mainstream media have not mentioned even one of the eight field hospitals that Israel has built in Gaza for its inhabitants. That information would only improve Israel’s image and that, of course, would never do. Instead, they report endlessly about the IDF attacks on hospitals in Gaza, as if it has been deliberately targeting medical facilities and personnel. It has not. Both at Al-Shifa, the largest hospital in the north of the Strip, and at Nasser Hospital, the largest one in the south, the IDF fought Hamas operatives who were discovered using those hospitals to hide both themselves and their weapons. Of the 26 hospitals in Gaza, the IDF has discovered that 22 were similarly being used by Hamas. As usual, the IDF removed the patients and medical personnel, for their own safety, before assaulting Hamas fighters hiding in those hospitals. But how many people, given the atrocious media coverage of every aspect of Israel’s war in Gaza, know even that?
