Pope Francis: U.S. Should Have Open Borders Because Irish are Drunks and Italians are Mobsters

Forget Biden debating Trump. He should debate Pope Francis. Both are elderly men with the habit of saying completely insane things that undermine whatever point they’re trying to make.

The Catholic leader said in a “60 Minutes” interview with Norah O’Donnell that American leaders should instead embrace forgiveness toward migrants entering the country.

“That is madness. Sheer madness,” Francis said. “To close the border and leave them there, that is madness.”

“The migrant has to be received,” he continued, advocating against GOP efforts to close the southern border. “Thereafter, you see how you are going to deal with him. Maybe you have to send him back, I don’t know, but each case ought to be considered humanely.”

“Migration is something that makes a country grow,” he said. “They say that you Irish migrated and brought the whiskey, and that the Italians migrated and brought the mafia. Migrants sometimes suffer a lot. They suffer a lot.”

I’m just as happy he didn’t get around to whatever stereotypical image he had of Jewish and Polish immigrants even while painting the Irish as drunks and Italians as the mob. Two groups that formed the base of the American Catholic community. And the groups he would want to win over with his argument.

Pope Francis doesn’t seem to understand the difference between legal immigration and mass illegal invasion, but to be fair he’s been living in Europe where the difference hasn’t existed for a decade. It’s like trying to explain to a California socialist why shoplifting is wrong. The concept doesn’t even exist anymore. Having a million Muslims just show up in your country is how immigration in Europe now works. Wir schaffen das!

There are all sorts of arguments to be made in favor of immigration or even migration, but I have to say that even after hearing a decade’s worth of bad arguments, this one takes the case. “Migration is something that makes a country grow. They say that you Irish migrated and brought the whiskey, and that the Italians migrated and brought the mafia. Migrants sometimes suffer a lot. They suffer a lot.”

This is Borat-level stuff. It’s almost like the entire Pope Francis routine is one big troll by a secret right-winger who’s parodying the mindless condescension of the leftist clergy.

  1. But each case is not being considered humanely. They came in huge groups and that is how they are processed. Documents are given to them that amount to nothing “Come back in 7 months”, etc. We know certain nations are opening their prisons and getting rid of their worse. And Americans are dying. Being raped and murdered. This is insanity and there is no other country on the face of the earth that is doing this.

  3. First and foremost, Pope Francis is a socialist, always has been. We have no responsibility to people who come here illegally, who jump to the front of the line and push out the people doing it legally. It’s a slap in the face to all the people who waited their turn and paid $10k or more to become an American.

    The Lifeboat theory says that the lifeboat can hold X number of people. If X+1 swims up and attempts to get in, the boat swamps and everyone drowns. We’re a very rich country, but EVERY nation have an X+1 limit. Chicago and NYC looked the other way, looked down on the border states trying to handle the horde coming across – until the illegal migrants got shipped to their respective cities.

    NOW it’s a problem. I’m not sure it would have been until the citizens of sanctuary cities started tripping over the illegals. We don’t have to accept everyone who can run across our borders (or the ones Biden is flying in from foreign countries).

    This should be a hanging offense.

        Franics is from a socialist country. Many Nazis left after WWII and settled in Argentina. They took their politics with them, and it spread to the locals born there.

  8. The ‘pope’ is evil. And he has made friends with mozlums.

    Likely he never read, nor would understand the Apostle James who wrote, “Friendship with world is enmity with God. Whoever makes himself a friend of the world, has made himself an enemy of God.” (James 4:4)

    No one who wishes to please the God of the Bible, should listen to the pope.

    And who is he to tell Americans how to run the country? Let everyone in and then ask them why they are here? And then send some of them home….because **every one** of them ….millions of them… deserve a chance?
    They just keep coming. How would it ever end?

    No one should ever listen to the ‘pope’ and everyone to whom he attempts to tell what to do, should tell him to go fly a kite.

    Many Italians and Irish are good Catholics. How do they like being smeared by their own Pontiff? Just grotesque.

    And of course, even if these vicious cliches *were* true–which they are not; I am part Irish, and don’t drink at all, and the Italian mob has been pretty much wiped out in the US decades ago–they would not of course lead to the conclusion that this means that we have to open our borders to untrammeled immigration, including that of criminals and terrorists.

    • Agree in full. The Irish out protesting aren’t seeking drink, they’re justifiably guarding their children and communities. They’re clearly family-oriented and patriotic. They’ve fought for the Catholic Church over the centuries. They point out that their electeds didn’t house Irish homeless. His reaction is to slander them.

      Interestingly, the part of Italy that continues to have the biggest mafia problem is the part closest to the islamic world and its trafficking. The Italians I know are very family-oriented, appreciative of beauty, heavily Catholic, and careful to avoid mob ties. It’s as if Francis doesn’t even look out the window or have any consciousness of what it means to be so insulting of the country that surrounds his heavily guarded enclave.

        My father came from a very large Italian family. Family reunions, which I attend regularly, are wonderful. Great food, drink, and camaraderie.

        And not one person connected to organized crime.

        But, admittedly, some of them could have certainly been cast as “extras” in the Godfather (1972).

        • You’re fortunate; that’s a real blessing. The food is superb and the bonds are very strong. The schools were great, with caring, very competent staff. I love Italy.
