So you see, you’ve had it all wrong. Listen to Charlotte Kates, the wife of Palestinian Khaled Barakat, a member of the PFLP. She assures us that Hamas is “not a terrorist organization.” Nor, in her view, is PIJ, nor the PFLP, nor Hezbollah. They are “our heroes.” They don’t “terrorize” the Israelis. Israeli propagandists have spouted lies for years, about the killing of 31 schoolchildren at Ma’alot, and the massacre of 18 people, 8 of them children, at Kiryat Shmona, and the Coastal Road massacre of passengers on a bus, with 31 killed, 13 of them children, and the Passover Seder where a suicide bomber blew himself up, killing 30 elderly celebrants, and wounding 140, and the Sbarro pizzeria massacre, where a suicide bomber blew himself up, killing 16, including seven children, and wounding 170, and so many more false flag operations, in which the IDF and Shin Bet have arranged to kill their own civilians in order to blacken the image of the Palestinian resistance.
“Everything that we can do is just to live up to the example that the resistance fighters set every day, yes, with their guns, with their missiles, and their rockets, but also with their medicine, with their books, with their love, and with their hop [sic] and joy for a liberated palestine [sic] and for the future of humanity,” said Kates….
Yes, just live up “to the example that the resistance fighters set every day” — but as you and I know, but not Charlotte Kates or Khaled Barakat — were that to happen, the result would be the complete destruction of civilization. Imagine a world where terror groups everywhere dominated, and terrorists ruled, everywhere. That is what Charlotte Kates would like to see, but of course, she wouldn’t call Hamas, the PFLP, the PIJ, or Hezbollah “terrorists.” They are resistance fighters. They are working not just to liberate Palestine, but “for the future of humanity.” Keep that in mind.
Kates said that the role of the protesters in the united front was to boycott companies with business relations with Israel such as McDonalds and Indigo Books, and to conduct actions like the occupation of campuses in the fashion of the Columbia University encampment.
Right now those tent encampments are being pulled down, on campuses from sea to shining sea, while those who had been occupying them, if they have refused to go quietly, are now being arrested and carted off to jail. Some will be permanently expelled from their schools. And not a single college or university anywhere in the United States has said it will divest itself of any investments in Israeli companies, nor has any institution of higher learning agreed to cut academic ties to Israeli scholars and programs. The campus protests have achieved nothing. But they have angered a great many people, including parents of children who, because of the campus disruptions, will not be having a regular graduation ceremony.
At the Hands Off Rafah event that according to promotional content was sponsored by Samidoun, Palestinian Youth Movement, Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement (Masir Badil), Independent Jewish Voices, and International League of Peoples’ Struggle in Canada, other speakers called for support of campus encampments.
A speaker in a red keffiyeh claimed that “students have taken it upon themselves to start an intifada” by seizing campuses.
An “intifada” on campuses? An “intifada” is a violent uprising. Are students now going to go beyond their encampments and squalid chants, and start, as this speaker says, to “seize campuses”? Seize them from whom? The university police? The administrators? And what exactly happens after they have “seized” these campuses? Will they shut the universities down? How will that help their cause? Or will they banish all Jewish students and faculty from the campus until…until what, exactly? Until Israel disappears? These people are unhinged by hate. They cannot think clearly.
Another protest leader related information from protesters at Ohio State University, and castigated Ohio law enforcement for arresting activists there. The speaker said that the Palestinians guided the movement against imperialism.
“Their martyrs inspire us all,” she said….
Which “martyrs” inspire us all? The ones who were killed by the IDF in Gaza, after having burned children in a kibbutz oven, or gang-raped girls, or gouged out the eyes of an IDF soldier they had captured? That’s not my idea of inspiration. Is it yours?
Here is what is going to happen, or at least what should happen:
The IDF is going to enter Rafah, sooner or later, and will destroy the last four intact battalions of Hamas terrorists. That will bring Hamas’ reign of terror in Gaza to an end, both for Israelis, and for the Palestinians in Gaza who have suffered so much under Hamas’ corrupt and violent rule.
The campus demonstrations will end. Students for Justice in Palestine and similar groups will be shut down by many, though not all, universities. Hundreds of student will have been arrested on dozens of campuses; some of them will serve time in jail. Many of them will be permanently expelled from their schools. And that will be a salutary lesson for those who might once have contemplated joining such groups of protesters. Quiet will reign on campuses. And the government of Canada will not do as Charlotte Kates and her husband Khaled Barakat have demanded. Hamas, PIJ, PFLP, and Hezbollah will remain on the official list of banned terrorist organizations.
