Ignoring assaults of Jewish students, The Hill claims ‘Islamophobia’ has ‘spiked on campuses’

The Hill is just another establishment propaganda rag; in fact, it’s one of the most egregiously unfair of them. This is particularly insidious propaganda piece. Antisemitism and “Islamophobia” have both “spiked,” we are told, and throughout the piece, they are treated as equivalent. Yet The Hill never mentions the actual attacks on Jewish students; from the looks of this article, all they suffered was the presence of “pro-Palestinian encampments” and “strong graffiti.” And the only example of “Islamophobia” that The wretched Hill can manage to produce is that some people are pro-Israel, and that a Muslim girl was insulted, while another was suspended for tearing down posters of Israeli hostages. It mentions the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) without, of course, giving any hint of its ties to Hamas. The lone photo accompanying the article, meanwhile, depicts leftist pro-Hamas Jews and a denial of claims that the pro-Hamas protesters are antisemitic. The Hill has been a disgrace for years, but this article alone should render it unworthy of serious consideration by any thinking people.

…Antisemitism and Islamophobia have both spiked on campuses in the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel, and the recent anti-war encampments have greatly disrupted student life….

The stress ramped up considerably last month with the arrival of pro-Palestinian encampments on campuses across the nation…

“There was lots of strong graffiti around the encampment with different antisemitic stereotypes,” Glassberg said.

Hafiza Khalique, a first year Muslim student at New York University, told The Hill she was the first person she knew of who was suspended in the pro-Palestinian movement back in October.

NYU suspended her through the end of the academic year for tearing down posters on campus about Israeli hostages….

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released its national civil rights report in April showing that in 2023 it received the highest number of anti-Muslim complaints in 28 years at more than 8,000 recorded incidents across the country.

Reana Akthar, a Muslim student at Wesleyan University, told The Hill that once as she was wearing a keffiyeh, a traditional Middle Eastern headdress, someone on campus told her to go back to her country.

“It feels like I’ve been walking in a dream these past couple months because there are people firm in their belief that Palestinians have what’s coming to them, and I think that’s unacceptable,” Akthar said when talking about the culture on her campus….
