This is ridiculous and offensive, but it is the spirit of the age. Khan wants arrest warrants for Hamas leaders while accepting uncritically their discredited claims about Israel committing a genocide in Gaza.

THE HAGUE, May 20 (Reuters) – The International Criminal Court’s prosecutor said on Monday he had requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his defence chief and three Hamas leaders over alleged war crimes.
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan said in a statement issued after over seven months of war in Gaza that he had reasonable grounds to believe that all “bear criminal responsibility” for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He said he had applied for an arrest warrant for Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant as well as for Netanyahu. They have overseen Israel’s offensive against Hamas in Gaza since the Palestinian militant group’s deadly Oct. 7 raid on Israel.
He has also applied for arrest warrants for Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar; Mohammed Al-Masri, the commander-in-chief of the military wing of Hamas who is widely known as Deif; and Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’ Political Bureau.
It will be up to a panel of pre-trial judges to determine whether the evidence supports the issuing of arrest warrants. The court, however, has no means to enforce arrest warrants and its investigation into the Gaza war has long been opposed by the United States and Israel.
Israel and Palestinian leaders have previously dismissed allegations of committing war crimes.
“Now, more than ever, we must collectively demonstrate that international humanitarian law, the foundational baseline for human conduct during conflict, applies to all individuals and applies equally across the situations addressed by my office and the court,” Khan said.
“This is how we will prove, tangibly, that the lives of all human beings have equal value.”…
“Drawing parallels between the leaders of a democratic country determined to defend itself from despicable terror to leaders of a blood-thirsty terror organisation (Hamas) is a deep distortion of justice and blatant moral bankruptcy,” Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz said.
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said the prosecutor’s decision to request warrants for the three Hamas leaders “equates the victim with the executioner”….

There were talks about trying to get the South Africans to arrest President Putin last year when he went for a BRICS summit. Except that Ramaposa dismissed it, saying that the question of arresting a head of government didn’t arise
Regardless of what one thinks of Ramaposa – I loathe him – he happened to be right about this one. If you wanna seize a leader, do it the way it was done w/ Slobodan Milosevic – go to war w/ the country in question, defeat it, and then seize its leader, maybe after the election. But arresting a country’s leader while he’s there on government business representing his country is pretty much a declaration of war on that country, and that too in a pretty unethical manner

The ICC, like any other UN agency, including the UN itself, should be completely disbanded. The idea that rogue countries would have a voice in this is like making the mob a part of law enforcement in the US
Chances are that Bibi is unlikely to even go to any country that’s likely to try and seize him to hand him over. Already, when there were talks last year or before about Putin being arrested for crimes in Ukraine, one of the BRICS leaders – I think Ramaposa – stated that the question of arresting a head of government didn’t arise. I’d think that most sane countries would extend the same courtesy to Netanyahu
