On April 13, Iran launched more than 170 drones,130 ballistic missiles, and 30 cruise missiles at Israel. 99% of them were either intercepted by Israel and its allies (including ad hoc ally Jordan), or failed at liftoff or while in flight. It was quite a display both of Iranian malevolence, and of impotence. Since then, the IDF responded only with a handful of missiles landing in Isfahan, deliberately avoiding hitting both nuclear facilities and the army bases nearby, but making clear to Iran that it could have done so, and should Iran foolishly choose to attack Israel yet again, next time the IDF won’t be exercising “restraint” but will come at Iran hammer and tongs. The Israeli government had concluded that it wanted to grant the Bidenites one of their requests, and to exercise “restraint” in responding to Iran’s attack, so that in Gaza, the Americans would cease trying to prevent the IDF from entering Rafah, where four battalions of Hamas remain intact. The IDF wants to finish off Hamas, before turning its attention to Iran’s most important ally, Hezbollah, and ultimately, to Iran itself.

The building that Israel hit in Damascus was not a “consulate,” but the headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Syria. Iran keeps calling it a consulate because that would make it, under international law, sovereign Iranian territory, and Tehran claims that this attack on what it claims is Iranian territory gives it the right, therefore, to retaliate directly against Israel.

It is Iran that backed Bashar Assad with money and weapons during more than a decade of fighting the Syrian civil war. That war resulted in more than 620,000 casualties, most of them civilians; five million Syrians have fled abroad; six million others are internally displaced. Assad’s army has devastated much of the country. Had Iran not helped Syria with money and weapons, that war might have been won by the democratic and Sunni opposition to Assad’s Alawite (a branch of Shiism) despotism, who form a clear majority in the country, many years ago.
Iran is now the major foreign supplier of drones and other weaponry to Russia, yet has suffered no economic consequences from the Western powers for helping Vladimir Putin. It has promoted close ties to the Communist regimes in Venezuela and Cuba. It collaborates with North Korea on weapons development. It sells 90% of its oil to Communist China. Just a month before its recent attack on Israel, Iran had convinced the Bidenites to waive certain economic sanctions on Iran and its leaders that the Trump administration had put in place; now those sanctions will remain in place, and new ones on Iran have just been announced.
Yet now Iran may have jumped the shark by attacking the Israeli homeland for the first time. It is learning that it has almost no sympathetic allies.
In fact, Iran’s attack on Israel brought into immediate being military support for Israel not just from the U.S., the U.K., and France, but also, surprisingly, from Jordan, that shot down Iranian drones and missiles that entered Jordanian airspace. Saudi Arabia allowed Israeli planes to use its air space to intercept Iranian missiles and drones.
Does even the Lebanese Hezbollah really want to take revenge against Israel on behalf of Persian Iran, only to see its Shia neighborhoods in Lebanon reduced to rubble?
Since October 8, Hezbollah has not increased the number of rockets it lobs into Israel. It did not intervene, as Hamas had hoped, on the side of the terror group in its current war. And while Nasrallah utters his usual threats from his hiding place in Beirut or southern Lebanon, Hezbollah did not try to join in Iran on its recent attack on Israel. Nasrallah knows that if his rockets cause a major casualty event in Israel, the IDF may well decide that now is the time to deal with Hezbollah as it has been doing with Hamas — that is, to destroy Hezbollah’s ability to conduct its terror war against Israel.
Do all the pro-Hamas protestors on American campuses and in the streets really want to show Americans they celebrate Iranian attacks and a potential Iranian war against the United States?…
Certainly those pro-Hamas protestors who are now chanting “Death to America” are not trying to hide their treasonous beliefs. And their antisemitism is such that they regard Iran, not despite, but because it is the main threat to Israel’s existence, as worthy of their support. No doubt they are inwardly rooting for Iran to produce a few nuclear weapons and then to use them on the “apartheid colonial-settler genocidal state” of Israel that, in their view, has no right to exist, and must be replaced by a twenty-third Arab state.
Israel knows that Iran remains a mortal threat to its existence, and the IDF will have to destroy its nuclear program before the Islamic Republic acquires those weapons, and has a chance to use them. It’s on Israel’s To-Do List, just after “Destroy Hamas” and “Cut Hezbollah Down To Size.” And its’ not just the Western world that will welcome Iran being prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons, but all the Sunni Arab states as well, for they too are threatened by the mad mullahs of Tehran.

It seems to me that Iran should be commended for coming to the aid of Syria after spurious freedom fighters ( funded and promoted by the USA ) started in their attempt to destabilise the country and probably turn Syria into a wreck as in Libya . Still partially wrecked to whose benefit?American meddling is a curse everywhere as the Ukraine debacle demonstrates . Iran Persia is a major player in the region and will remain so .
