The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) called the World Central Kitchen (WCK) after seeing a gunman mount one of its vehicles and fire into the air on Monday evening, but WCK could not reach its employees, according to a report.
That would suggest that Hamas might have tried to ensure that the IDF misidentified the WCK convoy as terrorists — a tactic consistent with Hamas’s use of civilian deaths to generate global pressure on Israel to stop the war in Gaza….
A Hamas gunman apparently stepped onto the running board of one of the WCK vehicles, then fired in the air, and quickly jumped off. This single shot in the war is used by Hamas as a signal to start an operation. That gunmen was detected by the IDF, that then tried to call WCK. WCK tried to reach the aid workers in the convey, but they did not answer. The IDF drones at no point detected the identification mark of WCK on the top of one of the three vehicles (the other two had no marks). It was pitch black, and the smoke from the first vehicle to be hit would likely have obscured even more the roofs of the remaining two vehicles, including the one that carried the WCK sign. The IDF has explained that the darkness, and the small size of the WCK logo, made it difficult for the drone to see it. But what made it impossible to identify the aid convoy was the fact that the drone’s infrared cameras lacked the ability to make out the WCK logo.
WCK was unable to make contact with its aid workers in the convoy, to find out what was going on, and to relay that information to the IDF so that a drone attack would not be undertaken. At that point, the IDF had to decide whether it would let the convoy continue, even after it had seen the gunman mount the lead vehicle fire one shot into the air, and jump off, which Hamas was in the habit of doing to signal the start of an operation. This was a move one would expect from a Hamas operative, but not from a worker bringing humanitarian aid. The risk was weighed: what harm might be done to innocents if the convoy was not, in fact, full of Hamas combatants, but of aid workers, and the IDF fired on it? And what would be the risk to IDF soldiers on the ground if three vehicles full of Hamas men were not stopped in their tracks by IDF drones? The IDF officers in charge decided, wrongly as it turned out, to attack the three-vehicle convoy, without waiting to hear back again from WCK, which in the meantime might have managed to make contact with the aid convoy.
The IDF mistook the WCK vehicles for Hamas vehicles because infrared cameras could not see the logo atop the vans.
This is the key point that explains the error: the IDF’s infrared cameras could not see the WCK logo.
The IDF investigators concluded that the gunman who mounted the first vehicle in the convoy and then fired a shot was indeed a member of Hamas, as the drone in the sky concluded. But the drone apparently did not register that he then leapt off the vehicle. The drone concluded, not unreasonably given that it could not detect the WCK logo, that this was a Hamas convoy.
Hence the IDF officers gave the drone the order to fire.
The question remains: why would a lone gunman mount the first vehicle and shoot into the air, which Hamas does to signal the start of an operation, unless he was deliberately trying to fool the IDF into thinking the convoy was made up of Hamas combatants and firing on it? The ruse worked. Hamas doesn’t care about the aid workers; the more of them the IDF kills in Gaza, the worse Israel appears to the world. This time it tricked the IDF into killing seven of those aid workers, and in reaction, much of the world, it appears, has exploded in rage against the Jewish state. Just as Hamas wanted.

When WCK operates within a war zone they know the risk of enemy or friendly fire. Mistaken indignity a misfired round, bad intel. or enemy interference can lead to civilian aid workers or media personnel being accidentally hurt or killed. Wars NOT pretty or perfect no matter how hard you try to avoid hurting non-combatants .
Have there been any Hamas or Muslim aid workers harmed or killed providing aid to Jewish people? I didn’t think so. Could that be because Hamas and the Muslims don’t care if Jewish civilians starve or die?
