Christiane Amanpour and Jon Stewart recently had a highly questionable televised tête-a-tête: “Jon Stewart & Christiane Amanpour Use Daily Show Interview to Muddle Image of Israel,” by Chaim Lax, HonestReporting, April 11, 2024:
Al Jazeera is wholly owned by the government of Qatar, which is both a financial backer of Hamas and has provided refuge for many of Hamas’ leaders. Al Jazeera does as its master’s voice, the waddling emir of Qatar, commands. It is as much a propaganda organ as the Tehran Times, or The People’s Daily, or The Moscow Times. No one of sense would ever describe Al Jazeera as “trying to tell the truth in this waging [sic] war.”
- Christiane Amanpour says the Oslo peace process “failed because the people responsible for enacting it didn’t do it and actually sabotaged it,” seemingly placing blame on both Israel and the Palestinians. However, in reality, then-US President Bill Clinton said it was the Palestinian leadership under Yasser Arafat that was the key factor in the “sabotaging” of the peace process by walking away from negotiations and initiating the violent Second Intifada.
Amanpour has apparently forgotten the generous territorial settlement that Ehud Barak offered to Arafat in 2000, after which Arafat simply walked away. Within days, Arafat ordered the Second Intifada to be unleashed. Nor does she mention that in 2008, Ehud Olmert made an even more generous offer to Mahmoud Abbas, including giving up Israeli control of the Old City, which would instead be put under international control. Abbas, like Arafat, simply walked out, not even bothering to respond. Amanpour mentions none of this, but refers to the Oslo Accords having “failed because the people responsible for enacting it didn’t do it and actually sabotaged it.” “The people responsible for enacting it [the Accords]”? This sounds as if she is blaming both sides — Israel and the Palestinian states — equally. But the only saboteurs of the Oslo Accords were the two Palestinian leaders, Arafat and Abbas.
- With regards to Israel’s stated claim of continuing the war until Hamas is destroyed, Jon Stewart rhetorically asks “So, you’re just going to kill everyone?” This implies that Israel is indiscriminately killing Palestinians and destroying Gaza in hopes of eliminating Hamas, rather than what it is actually doing: Going after Hamas targets that are deeply embedded among Gaza’s civilian population, in order to improve the lives of both Israelis and Palestinians that have suffered from the terrorist organization.
Jon Stewart apparently thinks that those mad-dog Israelis are determined to kill everyone in Gaza. If that was their intention, then why did the IDF send out, in just the first month of the war in Gaza, 14 million leaflets, six million messages, and make four million phone calls, all to warn civilians away from places that were about to be targeted? Does that show an intent “to just kill everyone” in Gaza, as Jon Stewart suggests might happen? In fact, British Colonel Richard Kemp has described the IDF as “the most moral army in the world,” and West Point Professor John Spencer has said that the IDF in Gaza has “implemented more measures to prevent civilian casualties than any other nation in the history of warfare.” What do you make of that, Jon Stewart?
- At one point in the interview, Amanpour draws a line between the American reaction to the war in Gaza and its reaction to the Rwandan genocide, implicitly comparing Israel’s defensive war against terrorism to the ethnic cleansing of a minority population.
Amanpour thinks that the deaths in Gaza of 33,000 people (if that number is indeed reliable), nearly half of them Hamas or PIJ members, which occurred in the context of a ferocious war that Hamas started with the atrocities it carried out on October 7, is akin to the murders of 800,000 unarmed and inoffensive Tutsis by Hutus in Rwanda in 1994. Israel is fighting a war of self-defense that was forced on it, and in which it makes great efforts to minimize civilian casualties. In Rwanda, the Hutus simply attacked innocent Tutsis, who had done nothing to deserve it, in order to annihilate them. There is a difference between that genocide, and Israel’s war of self-defense in which it does everything it can to minimize civilian casualties. It’s a difference that apparently escapes Christiane Amanpour.
- Later, Amanpour claims that “At the moment, the Israeli government wants none of it. It doesn’t want the UN, it doesn’t want the Arab countries.”…
If Israel “doesn’t want the UN” to be involved in the Gaza war, that is surely because the UN doesn’t “want” Israel. The General Assembly, and all of the UN’s many moving parts, have become a vast kangaroo court with Israel perennially in the dock. And what does Amanpour mean when she says that Israel “doesn’t want the Arab countries”? Does she mean that Israel doesn’t want the Arab countries to try to mediate the hostage-for-prisoners exchange? Hasn’t Israel been negotiating with Hamas through Qatar in good faith, even as Hamas keeps increasing its demands? Israel “doesn’t want the Arab states” to do what? To take over running Gaza on “the day after” Hamas is finally crushed? Some Israelis think that would, in fact, be a good idea, and have suggested that the UAE would be the ideal candidate for such a task.

In the newspaper The Epoch Times April 3-6, 2024, A14 the reader in informed about “Civilian Casualties.” For it reads, “Israel risks the lives of its soldiers to prevent civilians deaths. Hamas risks the lives of civilians to prevent terrorist’s death. Israel considers it a failure, and Hamas considers it a globally advantageous when civilians die than its soldiers.”
The contrast between Israel and Hamas is vast and outstanding.

The actual, real, intention of Hamas is the genocide of the Jewish people that’s the goal of Hamas and not of those in power in the State of Israel regarding the “Palestine” people.
About innocent those children who died in Gaza because the jihadists Hamas hiding among places with children.
